If your a good player then just save straight for onos.
Most alien games at the moment I save straight to 100. Im pretty good so im usualy top fragger or close which means i can go onos from 7-10 minutes into the game.
An onos that early is devastating to marines. Alot of the time I can take out thier base right away and win the game then. If thats not possible you can definatley take out all thier res on the map and severly restrict thier movement. When I do this aliens win 8 out of 10 times.
All you need is 3 dcs for regen.

So what im saying is res whoring is good if youve got the skill to take advantage with.

or what you COULD do is take that res... and put down rt's and a hive... meaning your ENTIRE team is better.. rather then just you, how about you help the gorge that put down those 3dcs for you next time and the rest of your team while you are at it instead of being selfish

Becuase I help my team better by winning the game and clearing all marine res.

1 Good player using his res to attack as a powerfull class early in the game when marines are not ready is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Greater than using his res to give his whole team a small boost for lower classes.

The fact is a better player can make a much more significant impact on the game if he spends his res on himself.

At the end of the day the fact that we almost always win this way settles it for me.

    Rez Whoring is bad...

If everyone ****d to get onos, then their would be no precious DC to heal u. There would be no 2 hives or stomp.

ok you may win.. but did you ever think it might make a less enjoyable experience for everyone else you play with? this is a game for teamwork.. that doesnt mean you leech off the efforts of your team for your own benefit.
  • NetherNether Join Date: 2003-01-21 Member: 12530Members
Crow im not suggesting everyone saves for onos just one of the better players of the team as a good strat to win.

Regardless of what strat your team does at least one person has to store res otherwise youd never have higher tier aliens and you would lose 10/10 times.

Venom, if people dont like shortish games then you have a fair point. But if people like to win then I dont think they mind someone playing a major role in accomplishing that in the end. Its not leeching off your team either as you earn the res yourself from skulking and then use it to win the game for your team :/

and do kills get you the res from the rts... or by killing people do dc's magically appear?

btw if you find it easy to own marines by yourself as a one hive onos prehaps you should try a change of servers and see if you can find one where marines are better prepared to deal with threats like that (please note.. I'm not trying to insult your server.. just making a suggestion)

I remember reading a quote somewhere that went something like:

QUOTE

It's sad that some people think 'winning' and 'having a good game' are both the same thing.

Some people like the game to go on, having both sides teched up and at higher evloutions, which makes for some excellent matches. As a skulk attacking the rine base, I usually go for their RT or the Proto/Arms Lab instead of the IPs; It doesn't end the game and it sets the marines back a bit, letting the game play on for a while longer.

And, like VenomLord said, you may have fun, but it doesn't mean anyone else does. How would you feel if you were a gorge, built 2 RTs, 3 D chambers and a Hive, then start saving for a well-earned Fade only to hear the end-game music and see 'Team Two Won The Game' appear on the screen? That'd **** me off to no end.

lol.. it DOES **** me off no end EVERY TIME IT HAPPENS...

myself when I am a skulk in the marines base assuming I have munched any marines in there I will usually start eating the comm chair... true it would be a game ender if it succeeded but inevitably the comm will pop out and have a little duel with me... if I win they are without their comm until the spawners can take me out while I'm munching on the chair.. if we loose they have to wait for the delay period before they go back into his chair meaning they are delayed for that time. It gives my team the advantage early game while not ending it excessivly early (unless for some reason the spawning marines fail to take me out.. which hasnt been an issue thus far)

here is the thing. when you play and noone drops rts or helps the team in any way other than to kill 9/10 times you lose.
if most of your team gets rts and you dont help in build in someway then you are a leach. without thouse rts you would make onos about the time ha train is at the door shooting down the hive. there is noway you made it to onos all by yourself that early in the game (unless its a small game).
saveing from the start for onos will not get you there much faster (in fact the game may end befor you get close).
onos are not leet killers. i good wepons 3 (with sg or hmg) marine can kill an onos by himself. as can 3 good wepons 0 (lmg) marines. i dont know where you play but where i play hive 1 onos are very dead onos.
all this thread dose is say "save your rez for onos and youll win". that is untrue and will lose you the game time and time again. the only time you save for onos from the start is in large games (10 on 10 and up) and only 1 person should save.
this is not 1.4. 1 gorge is not going to win you the game. its all about who has the most rts. team one needs at lest 3 rts. good rfk and needs to take down team 2 rts to win. team 2 needs at lest half the number of rts as players, good rfk and take down team 1 rts to win. contrary to the manual team 2 is not a free for all. it takes team work to win.

    edit..

winning does not make it a gg.

Also, just being the top fragger doesn't make you the best player. The best player on your team is probably getting as many or more frags than you, then going gorge to spend his accumulated res. During this time as gorge you continue killing when he has no real chance to. That is what makes you top, the time it takes for the better player to contribute to the team.

Plus you end up being onos so go on the obligatory kill frenzy whereas the better player will probably get to fade.

What is the most laughable in this thread is the title , since onos res ****es are a major cause of alien losses on pubs ; while some clans do have a dedicated onos saver instead of fade savers , who surprises the enemy 5 minutes into the game.

People saving for onos does not automatically make the aliens lose their game. People who builds for all their res does not automaticcally win the game.

Both combined ensures victory. Have one or two dedicated savers, and the rest gets the other stuff needed.

The problem with "if you're a good player, save for onos ..." becomes apparent when you put 6 good players on the same team.

Good thing there's still people like me, who like being a dedicated gorge, doing nothing but building RT's, chambers and hives so all you reswhoring basteges can have a good game.

There's only one kind of player that's worse than these reswhoring people, and that's the kind that doesn't even bother to make kills, but just go sit in a vent and go AFK for 5ish minutes, evolve to Onos and die after three kills or so...

    Oh well.

    tankefugl is spot on

littletoe, if you think 1 marine even with lvl 3 can kill an onos then your playing a different game, same goes for 3 lvl 0 marines. Onos ARE killing machines even though not as much as 1.04. The fact is its almost impossible to hold any res when theres an onos around without jp or ha.

"all this thread dose is say "save your rez for onos and youll win". that is untrue and will lose you the game time and time again"

Nope youll win the majority of games by far.

If you KNOW your good and you want the best chance of winning a game (regardless of whether it was a good or bad game) and someone on your team is willing to put DCs down then go straight for Onos.

I like to win, so Onos is it for me

    Edit for Forlorn

1 Hive onos dont suck even in the slightest.

It's not that saving for onos is 'res whoring'... you bunch of weirdos, stop making fun of him for this.

If he talks with his team about it, it's fine.

However, on a more realistic note, SAVING FOR ONOS?

My god, this is so 2.0.

Get with the times. Not only do 1 hive onos suck terribly, and are easy to kill, but fades are 50 res cheaper and are just as deadly at the one hive level.

Onos suck big time till you get to hive 2.
  • Turkey2Turkey2 Join Date: 2003-04-23 Member: 15766Members
A single hmg can take you down, or mine traps, or a couple shotties. All can be had easily by 6 min into the game. While the earliest onos may get the res to onos around 6 min, but probably closer to 7 and finally be attacking at 8. If you talk with your team and agree on this strategy thats fine, but if you try to res **** without saying anything than get ready to be slayed. Especially if there is only 1 hive. Btw drop a res node and guess what you will get onos res faster and help your team. OMG what a thought teamwork, scary...

I've yet to see an onos win a game single handedly.

And a person's concept of how "good" they are is always tinted. I'd say a lot of people would assume they're not good enough, or just capable, but you get a large chunk of idiots who assume they're the best.

Living for the longest amount of time with the biggest amount of kills doesn't automatically equal "best". It equals hit and run hoarder onos. Or lerk spore****.

Quite frankly, an onos doesn't win games singlehandedly, not against opponents with any wit.
  • CEldinCEldin Join Date: 2002-09-16 Member: 1323Members
I hate to see all this talk of 'res [w]horing,' when I know that on 90% of all decent servers require these people to win. The only difference is that they actually tell their team, so not everyone is doing the same thing.

The fundamental flaw in your logic has already been stated: you are probobly not the best. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

Problem with people like nether- they have the mindset of a res ****. I dont give a **** if you think you're the best on the team, everyone on this thread probably thinks they're the best alien on their team when they play. What would be better is to change it up-maybe go fade one game, and the next throw down a hive/and or res towers and chambers.....i remember getting into shouting matches with many people like you- i criticize them and they say "ITS MY RES" . No crotchface, its not your res.... Except for the little you got for kills. (Except it sounds like you suck as skulk, otherwise you wouldnt NEED to go onos- me personally, i Love being skulk the whole game).. res aside, a 1 hive onos without dcs aint too hot- just a pool of 100 res waiting to be wasted by like 3 lmgers....

Whats best is to COMMUNICATE with the team- establish whats fair, and who should put up a hive, save for lifeforms, etc.
  • BallistoBallisto Join Date: 2003-05-19 Member: 16503Members
ill support the underdog in this one. an early fade/onos can be a game ender. the marines will wonder where all their rts went... and then where their base went. gg

note the CAN be. if you're just gonna die, then that 50/100 res was better spent on other things.

another note... lerks and fades are really weak w/o dcs, i HATE people who yell at you to put up dcs after they've gone fade instead of doing it themselves. one small game (3 ppl on each team), just to spite a guy like this, i waited til he died and THEN put up dcs (yeah im evil ). despite that, we STILL won because of the huge advantage aliens get in small games.

yet another node... onos are INCREDIBLY weak before two hives. so dont even THINK of going onos unless that second hive is going up.

summary: nub onos<hive and upgrades for team<1337 fade/onos who will pwn the marines.

a single player CAN decide a game, if you dont belive me, just look for [Fur] Disco Stu on pubs (steam). (sorry, i know i botched ur tag). ive seen countless games where he gets tons of rfk from skulking, then goes fade and becomes our worst nightmare.

I wouldn't have said his post was about res whoring if there had been any mention whatsoever of talking with your team about it first, but there wasn't. That's not doing what's good for the team, it's whoring, plain and simple.

As usual this kind of strat really depends on how the team communicates. I'v been on games where almost everyone was saving for early Onos. Needless to say these games faired poorly. Once and a while a guy will ask to go early Onos, and sure enough he kicked arse. Not a bad strat, but as 100 Rez is involved. The team should at least be informed of your plans.

I am often a permagorge. One of the things I enjoy is dropping OC nests covered by sensory chambers. I'm pretty good at it, and I can often deny the marines half the map singlehandedly. Would you enjoy it if I dropped an SC immediately every single game, without asking you?

    I thought not.

Onos + Regen (Tell me you don't get redemption) = 102 res (not counting dropping chambers)
Now, for that res you can drop a hive (45 res), and still have enough to go fade (it should increase pretty quickly, as you should have a lot of nodes)
Fades can take out electrified RTs just as easily as onii can, and this way you HELP YOUR TEAM at the same time

onos onos WTH is onos.. i prefer playing as skulk or gorge all through the game para tagging or building structures throughout the game if i think i can take out a marine i'll chomp him if not thunk.... one marine lit up like a christmas tree (very festive). Nothing annoys me more than seeing 5 or six skulks hiding in dark corners not ambushing but saving for the uber "elite" onos (pah!!) whilst im actually trying to build some rts and chambers watching my res trickle slowly upwards.. finally when maybe one has made it to onos (most of them have been killed by marines losing loads of res) I get the load whining pre pubescent scream... "gorge heal me im onos the marines are picking on me with hmg's". suddenly i feel compelled to play marine.
