Trouble With Devour

<div class="IPBDescription">Works one-to-ten!</div> Perhaps there is something i'm missing.

But when i turn Onos, and try to Devour rines.......it just doesn't work.

The rine is right in front of me, backpedaling like crazy and lashing out unpleasant shotgun level 3 shells......and i keep "AHRRR AHRRR AHRRR"-ing him.......but it just won't happen! (so far i've managed to devour like 3 rines)

Is there something particular i have to do to make this funny skill work?

    Marine must be in the middle of the screen. Do not devour with your mouth. This usually entails aiming lower than you would expect.

    Aim at their chests, if you aim above them, it won't work. I heard from some people that crouching helps them do it better, but once you get used to it you can eat quite a few heavies.     Dont eat em point blank doesnt seem to work too well.

    Aim at their chests and you'll do fine. Crouch is for nubbehs, slow is crud for the onos.

    Truly i dont understand why everyone has so many issues with devour after my first kill i couldnt miss. Good thing i hate onos or i would devour heavies like theres no tomoro.

    ps: just to note apparently devour has unlimited vertical range so jp's shouldnt be a problem if you can judge correctly.

    Here is what I do, and it's so easy. 1st go marine then get a white marker or even white out brush works. Use the guns crosshairs for this, paint or draw a dot exactly where the crosshair center is on your monitor screen. Now when you're onii you will have a crosshair for the devour and never miss again <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> you will find that devour is a little right of the person you are trying to eat.

    and then you have a white dot on the center of your screen whenever you try and do anything else.

    it could also be considered cheating. somehow.

    You can add a crosshair any weapon (knife, web, bite, anything, even xenocide <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->) if you really want so putting crap on your screen isn't cheating.

    If you look at the base of a structure you see the HP bar..

    this means you have "selected" that building..

    its the same with devour, aim at the base of the marine (feet) this way you have "selected" that marine and by pushing fire he should gladly jump into your mouth <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    oh also, in ns_origin if u see a jp marine sitting at the edge of a vent looking at you... dont panic, just jump and use the tip of your horn to aim, even if his neck and ehad are showing u can still use the devour range but to somehoww suck him out of the vent. dont belive me? ask ultahlo in linuxmonster <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> ( he knows from expierence agaisnt me)

    Basicly the tip of the horn on gore is the mid point, and just keep track of it when you move your mouth down for devour.

    i find that the sure way to eat marines is to crouch, jump, look almost straight down. i eat em every time <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Try crouching.. Someone argued before that crouching is nubbish and slows you down.. yeah it slows you down, but not if your jumping. Jump+Crouch and aim at the marine = meal .. And immediately let go of crouch.. You don't get slowed down because your in mid-leap, and you let go of crouch before you landed.

    Oh yeah, and if you get 3 hives.. Charge+Adren+Devour = godly ... My funniest moment was on the map with Com Core, Maintinence, and Eclipse(Tanith?) .. Marines are pushed into their MS.. Theres a heavy or two near the ledge of their base at MS.. I activate charge(Which lasts quite a while with adren), ran in quickly, leaped into the air and **** an HA+HMG from the other side of the railing, and proceeded to bunny hop in circles around the RT in their MS(They couldn't hit me) .. I did this last part just for kicks.. With charge active you can jump really far and fast. When my energy ran out I scrambled out of MS(Most of the marines were chasing me with knives since they expended all their lmg+pistol ammo trying to hit Teh Bunny Hopping Onos..) .. Those guys didn't last too long against the 2 acid rocketing fades I ran past. In case you didn't know, Acid rocket > Knife.

    You can eat people from just about anywhere too.. Behind railings.. in high vents(sometimes).. Out of little holes in the wall.. Almost anywhere.. no one is safe from devour. I get a lot of congradulatory remarks in a lot of games when I devour JPers out of the air(This isn't as hard as you might think).

    So practice makes perfect.. Best way to practice is to stomp and find out where you have to aim to devour.. from there, practice jump+crouch or whatever, and try aiming for marines in inaccesable places like railings and ledges.. Soon you'll be getting famous lines like:

    "Omg that onos hax!!"
    "WTH!!!"(I hear this one a lot when I onos)
    "Stomp is for noobs!"
    "Let me out of your belly!"(Nice when the marines aren't asshats about it)
    "Come fight me like a man you stupid onos"

    And many more.

    Stomp *is* for noobs though. Unless you're goring. Devour slows you down which makes it all the easier for the enemies friends to nail you.

    Secondly, if you can't catch one man in HA with devour then you need real help. Lets take into account here the insane range of devour, that it can hoover people out of most places, and that an HA is big and slow.
