Bullet? or mosquito bite?
Okay, ive heard that to mow down most aliens in NS, the marines require a lot teamwork and bonded fire. but alone, is it possible for a LMG wielding marine to lay down some serious damage on lets say, a lvl5?

A lone marine with an LMG can hold his ground against skulks, gorges, and lerks. I've been able to go up against a fade with an HMG (and a commander dropping health and ammo constantly) and win. Against an ohnos though, you're going to need help. Lots of it.

Humbaba killed a lvl5 with a knife so anything is possible... but its extremely unlikely, he did it with the help of turrets etc and ran out of bullets.

Guns in NS only do superficial damage - they're primarily used to distract aliens while you herd them into the airlock to flush them into space. From what I understand.

you understand wrong, as there are no such airlocks to flush people into space..

well there was on one map, but that isn't in anymore. mainly due to commanders dropping weapons and ammo inside then hitting the button >:D

gun damage isn't realistic, but it is pretty high. a LMG can definately take out an unupgraded level 1 and 2.

I killed a level 5 with a welder. But that doesn't mean much if you're up against a good level 5 player.

Not only guns, but you'll need at least one or two players to stand inside the airlock as decoys.

Luring them into the leadworks and dumping molten lead on them works, as well.

this doesn't necessarily mean the level5 was at full health mind you, keep that in mind. This isn't a pure RTS, as in any FPS the other player's skill (or lack thereof) has a lot to do with whether they die or not.

Marine: OK, Commander, the trap is laid in the airlock. What should we do now?

    Commander: Hang on one second.

*Commander drops Heavy Armor with "Aliens! Free food!!!" spraypainted on both sides*

    Commander: Put that on.

Marine: I don't know about this...

Why don't we just throw popcorn at them, it worked in the simpsons.

MCThorn, if you'll remeber, dumping molten lead didn't work either - Ripley had to dump water on the alien after that and it exploded.

I am an even greater nerd then you! HA!

It would have been less funny if I said "dumping molten lead then pouring water on them". Plus, NS' aliens are made by hobbyists, and therefore, not as tough.

Okay. After NS is released we'll make a mod to import NS aliens into AVP2 as a fifth team. I think NS aliens > you. I'll take blink and acid rockets over some puny claws anyday.

Have you ever looked at the console in DoD when someone is killed by a Stickbomb or Springfield? you end up with something like

Venmoch killed player with stick or
    Venmoch killed player with spring

When I looked at that in the console for the first time I wondered what I was missing

This LMG sounds fairly useful! And knifing/welding a Lv5 how did you do that?

The LMG is fairly useful, until late game when they can evolve 4 or 5, sometimes even a lower level with carapace and speed can overwhelm you. If you are still using LMG's that late in the game, your already dead.
