your opinion?
hey, i just wanted what people who have used steam in the last 2 weeks think about it
i'll go first, i love it, it is much sleeker than the won system, and it is easier to join servers without using an outside program (like game spy arcade) i also like the friends system and i find that it has drasticly stabilized since launch

agreed, steam has gotten a lot better, but it's still far from perfect. I hate how it owns my fps for no reason

IMO, It should be good enough by the 3.0 release. If not Valve should start working on it more do to the sudden flood of players...

I like it, but i think they need to tweak it for slower PCs and slower internet. It still needs a bit of work but its getting better

I've always been very pro steam, yes there are problems, but you we seeing fixes on a weekely basis which i find brilliant, lots of small updates is great (i get bored really quickly). I also think friends is great .

The only reason I'll be getting it is because of NS, frankly. Oh well. Ce sera sera.

I love it (speaking as a moderately powered pc owner with broadband) auto update allows for fixes all the time its great!

I like the idea of it (love it actually), but I wonder whether they've done a -really- good beta-testing before release. Some of the bugs I've seen REALLY shouldn't be there....

no, they didn't do proper beta testing, the beta version just updated the won version, but the new steam is a lot different, and never had a true beta stage

I use it and I haven't noticed any apocolyptic problems. I like the new interface, console and all, but editing the textsize can be a pain.

Wish it hadn't eaten my FPS though. I had 6oish using BrigadierWolf's models before, now I have 60ish without.

Once in a while, for about 5 minutes, Steam hogs about 30FPS. I have no idea how or why, and it occasionally makes me lag... 2.08GHz.

it's ok but I prefer won cause I'm on dialup and for some strange reason auto update comes back out when I lauch HL through it and I have to alt-tab and turn it back off so I can have a playable ping

In response to the beta testing comments, some of the later beta versions seemed more stable than official release. I think this is because of two things: Steam is highly bandwidth dependent (when content servers are loaded, Steam acts funny); Steam has a very integrated architecture. (they change something here and it has unseen consequences there, ie. bugs)

As for lower FPS, I believe that is the new HL version, (VGUI2) not Steam. Many people continue to mix up the two.

    Errr I'm clueless.

Does this mean I can't blame Steam for all my (Close to non-existant) troubles?

I like it. I haven't tried ASE in conjunction, so I'm having trouble filtering for no-awp servers. Yes, that is an unfortunate side effect of steam; I've started playing CS again D: D: D:

Regarding the 30-fps stealing---make sure it's not trying to update a game while you're playing. It's happened to me and it really slowed everything down.

Steam doesn't bother me as a platform as much as I dislike the principle of subscription software. (Which steam will be a platform for.)

I don't have an overwhelming campaign platform of reasons, but it makes me very uneasy. You want to feel similar unease? Read the following text. (I've made it even worse by adding potential exploitation of DRM...)
