Pubbing I prefer marines just because I like to go off and rambo taking 5 or 6 skulks and a structure or two with me. Its also alot more satisfying to win marines for me, im not sure why. Although I tend to be unhappy when I lose either way <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo--> so whatever
I play mainly aliens, since I have little to no aim <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> But when I do go marine, I usually command or be the commander's enge.

There's nothing like good skulking. Not stupidly charging leet CSers you know , but ambushing them , waiting until they've depleted their ammo or stop to build something... cloaking next to them , reaching their backs silently. Then bite one , two , run on the walls and ceilings and fall on the third marine's head. I do like gorging in general , that is , placing structures where they need to be so that no one but the comm wastes their res. Battle gorging is so enjoyable , a nice way of humiliating marines with spit and healspray. Lerking can prove to be great fun as well , depending on the upgrades (adren and regen being the most reliable , silence and SoF being the most entertaining) Fading... well it's just exponentially fun as you raise in skills. You can feel how the marine players out there shiver in fear. Onosing is much more subtle than most people thing , and it is even hilarious. Less time to waste smashing stuff (siege damage) , more time to send marines flying , or digest them. Vacuum (long range) devour is surprisingly fun , as you know the marine would never expect to be swallowed from that distance.
There are enough interesting roles on the alien side to entertain everyone. The marines on the other hand , have to choose between potentially frustrating , and boring jobs :
Comming can be very rewarding , but the marines seldomly aknowledge your work. If you give too many medpacks and support your team all the time , you lose the game ; if you give medpacks to the ones who truly need it , then you have to cope with whining. The soldiers rarely look at the res count , so they whine for weapons or upgrades all the time. Some of them ask for HAs when the arms lab isn't even built. Sometimes , they give a nice advice on a change... but if your leet squad 5 is sneaking into the hive room , you usually have to relocate because of onos/fades crushing your base. Then people keep yelling "noob comm" and the like. The average pubber always expects you to use conventional strategies and is never prepared to relocate. I gave up trying to relocate at temp control in Lost , the marines are never strong enough to hold the position long enough.
Being a marine tends to get old too fast. You shoot skulks , noob ones drop like flies , leet ones bite you in no time. Killing gorges isn't hard either , but it's humiliating when you die to one. For the satisfaction of killing one lerk , you usually have to respawn 5 times. 10 to 20 times for a fade. Let's not speak about the onos... respawn respawn respawn. Ammo shoot fade to black respawn. Working in a squad is an interesting experience , but it requires a good comm , a good squad , and average aliens , or it won't last a minute. Anyways , my aim is too unreliable to go rambo , so without a very cooperative comm I often reach the hive room in vain , unable to kill the respawning skulks (fortunately for them)
I find playing as a marine frustrating , to you or to the ones having to deal with you (the aliens and the comm)
Still , I try not to join the alien team too often. I hardly ever cross the random team gate now , it's wiser to join a specific team with people you like , or help balance the teams skill. Random team usually makes skill stacking worse.
There's just something more fun about being the predator. That, and I find the skulk to be generally very enjoyable, both in terms of wallwalking and leap. Cloaking is ecstatic, and keeping marines guessing is wonderful.
I still remember a very specific game on ns_eclipse a long time ago---the Kharaa team were mostly skulks, and it was pure magic. Hardly anyone talked except to let others know where the marines were moving to, and whole platoons of marines would be ambushed by multiple skulks and torn into itty bitty pieces in short order. It was hive-mind-like. I swear that individual skulks actually had the ability to use gestures, nodding and shaking their heads and moving to best cover a room.
But then the dream was broken and newbies returned.
My favorite team is definetly aliens. Why? because you get more independence, team work is still required but not every single action has to be watched over by your teamates or your com and if you make a mistake its a lot easier to come back from it. If the marines are doing very well but get too spread out the aliens can rush their base and decimate it in short order. The marines can do the same to the aliens but they move much slower. Thats another reason why i like aliens more, unless your a non combat gorge every lifeform is much faster play then marines.
Aliens, unless there are Veterans on Marines <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
Veteran doesn't mean what it used to. Yesterday I joined some server and saw some freaking nubs with dn` on their name with vet status what crap is that.
If I'm playing with friends I play both sides equally. If I'm just random pubbing I play aliens the simple reason being that marines are too much of a headache if the team doesn't cooperate.

60% alien
25% comm
15% marine
