Weirdest Sucsessfull Tactic

What's the weirdest tactic you've seen?
Hey guys!

I wanted to open up a thread to all of those underused tactics which nobody ever consiters!

Probobly the weirdest tactic I can think of which was sucsessfull in my experience, was in Hera. I was commin a game, and decided to try something risky. After relocating to Hera Reception, I made a com chair behind the boxes at the rez node where we spawn, (you can put a com chair there). and gave myself no defenses. Then, I spread out the upgrades to various electrified nodes, (an example was the armory, and proto lab at holo, while the observatory, and the upgrade thingey was at hera). That made my rines patrol from hera, to holo frequently, (using pg), which deterred many onii rushes. The best result, was because a really early sulk rush killed the com chair, and they couldn't figure out where I was making all of this stuff from, so they searched around each node for the chair with no luck. They kept on killing chairs, but every time they got one, another would pop in another position. It was a long game, but they wasted so much rez trying to kill fake com chairs that we ended up being able to siege and jetpack every hive, and we took the victory.

It doesn't seem very weird, but it is, because I remember sitting in the corner about to fall off all alone, while 5-7 sulks ran around saying, "where the hell is that com chair!?", while my team secured another hive

The "5 IPs outside the hive" rush.

It was posted some time during 1.04, but it worked...crazy

elect. TF all around hive...imagine such a place as Waste, filled up with glowing TF...comm used this to kill the hive, and to spawncamp aliens a bit..they got roasted as they spawned. lame? yes fun? depends on which team you're on

Still works in 2.0x. 5+ ips works better if you're taking heavy casualties.

Building an IP and an armory at the start, upgrading the armory right away, tell everyone to go rambo the next 3 minutes, then at the 3 minute mark get everyone to group at base, drop 7 GLs. Comedy ensues.

Relocated to West Skylights on veil, and won. Thought we were doomed for sure.

getting ha, and welders, and getting ha towers, welding hives to death, *the aliens really stunk that game...we had the greatest time welding to death 2 hives, then a third being built...

reloc to the ledge above refinery (bast).

and one time a comm gave the whole team heavies and gls!!!!

Um well there was this time i was on aliens, and instead of trying to seige a hive of ours, the comm was trying to kill it with turrets.....but that doesnt count as successful.....

Had just been killed and was watching in spectator mode.
A marine in a vent fighting with a skulk called out for a medpack and got an arms lab dropped on his head. This shielded him from the bites and allowed him to kill the skulk. Madness, yet funny.

well, here's my tactic for ramboing oni in ns_mineshaft w/ (anygun) and JP- lure 'em to sewer hive if it's open, and fly up to the top. as he approaches, fly to the other side, shooting him as you go. rinse and repeat.

The weirdest and definitly funniest strategy I ever saw was definitly the mine rush. We spammed probably over 80 mines around the proximity of the hive and let one marine sit right under the hive as bait. One dumb skulk goes for the bait and experiences the worse mouse trap of his life. Theres a defeaning explosion and the hive is instantly vaporized .

Relocating to BOTH engine room AND refinery on NS_Bast, since I was worried one or the other was going to die. It would have worked but the server had a plugin where aliens could give gorges res, so we were locked in, and there was a WOL in every single room. We held out against them until a gorge got up on that ledge and droped OC's on top of the base (the buildings were right below it)

Relocate the marine base to viaduct hive in ns_nothing
My team splits into 2 and does a JP rush to both hives with HMGs and pwnz both hives at the same time.

No offense guys, but half of those stratergies aren't weird. Actually they are normal. Shotgun rushing a hive? lol!

Some of those stratergies aren't stratergies either. Electrifying a hive? It's apparent you were already winning. I mean things which are actually cool. The arms lab on a rine to save him from sulks is interesting tho

once i dropped an armslab on a fade that was going to rip my marine appart...
i just wanted to drop a medpack for the poor marine who was going to die..
missclicked and the fade got stuck in the armslab
fade was so confused he didn't even use unstuck just sat there and got killed by the marine

    funniest thing i ever saw

since then i often try to stuck bigger lifeforms with buildings some call it lame yeah maybe but it costs res and is not overly effective.. but it's a good aiming practice for a commander "come here lil lerk, let ma drop an arms lab on your head" and if it works it looks funny like hell

In small games because aliens try to reswhore I cap every node I can right away from start then run around building

Small game in 1.04. Map was bast. Researched jp fast and then relocated to the bottom of EM drill shaft. (Dropped CCs down there and other buildings on top of those CCs.) Later jp hmg rushed hives. Sadly this is impossible in 2.0X as buildings dont stack.

Also in 1.04 in eclipse we used first ~20 mins to collect res and then relocated to computer core and blocked all ways in whit CC walls. After one and half hours of acid spamm/welding they finally got in. Wasnt successful but atleast it was fun.

1.04 was good for weird strategies as marines totally owned.

heres a strat that works well in small games... send your rines out res hunting, and put down rts for them, yadda yadda... but also put rts down in the obvious ones aliens are gonna go for. it'll probably be a lone egg or a lone skulk about to go gorge to put it up. althought they will get it down (it's undefended), and it will cost 15 res, it'll take up the alien's time. while the aliens are taking that rt down, your rines are capping other nodes. those aliens, instead of harassing your troops/building stuff/attacking your base, are tied up taking down your res node. its trading 15 res for the alien's time pretty much.

its not my original strat btw, some guy on this forum posted it a while ago, forget who, but know that im giving you all the credit

dropping like 6 jp/mine packs to go into a hive filled with o chambers (refinery)

having 5 of the jpers make it up top and drip mines all over the hive......

the whole rest of the team rushes in to make a distraction... unloades level 3 guns into the hive... the 5 remaining jpers unload thier lmg into hive.....

    4 remaining jpers do pistols

1 remaining jper uses his knife and crouches...

one idiot skulk sets off all the mines killing the last jper... kills the hive...

relocate to engine room on bast, and chill there. Tech up and let the hilarity ensue as onos after onos gets mowed down trying to fit its fat **** in the entrance.

Let's see, wasn't successful but I imagine if proper skill and teamwork was in order it would be possible to muscle out a victory in 2.0. This happened I believe back in the 1.0 days however.

'Twas the map with the ventilation hive (forgot name). Anyways, we hadn't relocated, base was getting its arse kicked, comm gave me a jp and welder and I got the hell outta there. Scoped out the map undetected, and finally I saw a place that had very little activity; one of the nooks in ventilation hive, on the left if you were facing the higher part of the room (where the RT was). Anyways, comm puts down a cc right as his console is smashed to bits. I build it, hop in and built 3 IP's and a TF (we had lotsa res somehow, might as well spawn faster) and then the other guy who knew more about comming then I did got in the console. We were under orders to hold fire, by my suggestion. ALiens respawned and ran right by, looking everywhere else on the map. Ventilation was almost unguarded from our position.

Well anyways, we built 3 sieges and had them complete construction at exactly the same time, took out vent hive quickly, and got a turret farm up in short order. Lasted another 30 mins and almost got a third chance. I've done similar comebacks like that from the other side. Sneaky backstabbing is the way to go, when alot of poo hits a really big fan

You call this weird? I do this ALL THE TIME! It works great. Shotguns come up faster then sieges and take the hive down almost as fast (if you have the numbers). Instead of turrets you can get mine packs.

I did this just the other day on veil. My marines had been sweaping accross the right side of the map, taking all the nodes but 2x res. When they walked into an empty cargo hive room and found it to be the alien hive, i gave them an armory, shotguns and mine packs. After killing it the aliens were left with two gorges in subsector defending a growing hive. A scan told me that a few offence chambers were in the hive, and since it wasn't done building I tried something odd. With my marines near the hive (but out of siege range) I gave them a prototype lab (armory in base had just finished upgrading). With them defending the proto type lab with their shotguns (that they got in cargo hive) I start jetpacks researching since it doesn't take very long. The hive goes up and a skulk attacks them (it gets cut down by 4 shotgun rounds). Jetpacks finish and I drop them all jetpacks and recycle the prototype lab. They all fly to the top of sub hive and shotgun it down. Game over. The marines kind of liked the "get equipment as you go".

not super weird... but isnt it annoying when comms give you ha but leave you w ur lmg? a comm did that last game, only weapon he gave out was a gl... and we pwned the aliens. kinda funny.

Fragoth's fortress - A pile of Elec'd TFs surrounding every structure in the base, with room around the armory for 6-8 humpers, that also served as a tower/bunker.
