Gameplay > Realism

after having my suggestions flamed down numerous times although I asked for constructive criticism, I would like to flame back at those people and actually tell them why in NS, gameplay > realism ...

it is quite simple ...

1. In real life, the aliens would be exterminated very fast after they were found to exist and interfere with TSA business ...
2. There would be biological weapons ... anthrax? AIDS? who knows ...
3. NUKES! The fission bombs/missiles!
4. NUKES! The fission->fusion bombs/missiles!
5. Profit!!!

among other things ...

    okay.. what?

    how would they erradicate the aliens quickly? What is it they'd do?

    I don't know if "infect this area with some deadly biological weapon" would be an intelligent course of action. For one thing, they don't even know if the aliens are susceptible to the biological agents.

    I don't think it's cost effective to "nuke" spaceships, colonies, etc. Aside from scatterbrained people on the internet and in the Aliens movie, "NUKE IT!!" is not considered a viable/realistic option most of the time.

    Profit?.. what?...

    I'm wondering if the only thing worse than people who want realism in a game involving space aliens in the first place are the people who moan and simper that putting realism into a sci-fi future space drama story would be stupid because, as they and they alone are the only people who seem totally aware of what is realistic and what is not in a story involving <b>SPACE ALIENS</b>, it would take the fun out of it.

    Of course, no, worse would be if english were their second language.

    and your idea was. Sorry but some of dont memorize the forums posts. Maybe include your idea before saying it was flamed. If it was in the FAQ then it shouldnt have been suggested. Most of the maps are a space station or a space ship. A nuke would blow the ship/station up and kill the marines in the process.

    Realistically speaking, the TSA wants to save the ships, not annihlate them.

    Gameplay speaking, a nuke would be unfair.

    Presonally, you are a retard.

    Gameplay more override realism, but it's best to find a solution which improves gameplay AND is realistic.

    yes, the TSA doesn't know when their ships are infested with the Kharaa. Heck, a single Skulk if not found and killed, can wreck major havoc within a single ship, by the time the Frontisermen arrived, everyone in the ship has died and the Kharaa already has a single hive up.

    The kharaa invades any random spacecraft, and the tsa frontiersmen try to save it, NOT NUKE IT.

    Also,

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->The relatively obscure field of exo-biology has flourished since the beginning of the conflict, attracting many of the best and brightest from biology, chemistry and even paleontology and sociology. And while we have made huge strides (as you will read in the pages to follow), we are a long way off from a true understanding of these prolific and dangerous creatures. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    So basically, they really don't know enough about the kharaa to make any biological weapons against them.

    IMO, your right.. about the topic.
    Gameplay is more important then realism.. for example, I would equip all my soldiers with heavy and flamethrowers, before sending them through a heavily armored, electrified, defended by turret, phase gate. They would totally own everything by burning it to a crisp.
    That however, would not be a very fun game for the aliens (unless they had like water hoses and could put the flamethrowers out)
    So yes, gameplay is a lot more important then realism

    But, because people flamed you, doesn't mean you should flame them back.
    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->- Never, ever, under any circumstance, attack or "flame" anyone. Ever. No behavior is bad enough that warrants retaliation.

    - If a user breaks any of these rules, they will generally get a warning. Repeated offenses will result in temporary or permanent suspension of your account or banning from IRC. The forum moderators and IRC operators will use their best judgement in these cases. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Thats what you agreed to to enter these forums. I suggest you reread them.

    Yeah, except the frontiersmen doesn't have the resources to equip everyone with HA, JPs, hmg shotties and grenade launchers with infinite medspamming. They have a limited budget, so they start out with the bare minimum. They need nano-sludge in order to get the resources for higher tech equipment

    The maturity is overwhelming. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Though realism alone may not be important to this game, there are other qualities that are often confused with realism that are important. Namely, atmosphere and suspension of disbelief. These are different from realism, and they are important.

    No question raised herein couldn't be solved by a forum search, and the general heat level is just too high.
