Hitboxes at aliens?

i can imagine hitboxes at the marines. but how will they look like at the aliens? will it be more effective to shoot an onos from behind than shooting into legs? are there hitboxes for the legs?
how many hitboxes are there? head? body? legs/arms? any more? stomach (if u can find one <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo--> ) ?

Shooting an alien is hard enough as it is. As far as I know, there is only one hitbox per alien.

I'm fairly confident in saying that there are no hitboxes for any of the players.  It was disscussed to death a month or so ago, and I believe the offical answer was "mabye in a future release"

Have a read, the Search button is your friend, if you have a question.

    <a href="http://www.natural-selection.org/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=5;t=3232;hl=hitboxes" target="_blank">More Hitboxes</a>
    <a href="http://www.natural-selection.org/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=1;t=559;hl=hitboxes" target="_blank">Even more Hitboxes</a>
    <a href="http://www.natural-selection.org/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=5;t=381;hl=hitboxes" target="_blank">And one more for luck</a>

And thats out of about 20 hits.

There is only 1 hitbox per player model. You can not aim for the head and expect to do more damage, for example.

Locational damage makes some exploits - bunnyhopping, for example - much more effective.  In CS, bunnyhopping is a great way to avoid getting capped in the head... in NS, it's less effective because it doesn't matter where you're hit - it all hurts the same.

Besides, most of the alien models are quite small; trying to aim for a level3's head would be extremely frustrating.

Not to mention that multiple hitboxes are not always a good idea, i've seen people get capped in the head in CS TONS of times when the enemy wasn't even AIMING that the head.  It's just frusterating.  I'm fine with 1 hitbox.

The only thing i could see a use for hitboxes is onos, I think it would bee cool to make that big boney armor plate on the front nearly invunerable and make the rest of him weaker

different styles, imho most more realistic mods need more but ns dont <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

I'm against location damage in NS. It'd just take away from the fun IMO. I hate headshots.

Well, Level 5`s head is a freakin melon. It would be very easy to blow his brains out with a shotty when it charges at you

I think it has more to do with NS closely resembling traditional RTS's, where hits always count except for damage modifers in the forms of armor and weapon upgrades.

If hitboxes were to be implemented, I think it would be best to make no "bonus" hitboxes (i.e headshots). That is to say, for example, making certain areas on a Level 5 invulnerable, and most bullets bounce off that part, etc.

But I agree with rob6264. This mod isn't about making leet headshots. It's about strategy and upgrades.

    But perhaps a Level 5 "upgrade" should be the above example? <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->

    What do you guys think?

    This is good. VERY good.

Now i can play NS like SC and basically expect that a skulk would do base damage(its attack) minus armor of opponent = damage done to opponent. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> this is SO much simpler AND fairer becuase now there will be no damned "headshot cheats" or something simmilar to OGC.

not to mention locational damage would take WAY to long to do and ends up making people madder than happier; and makes welding armor (repairing) a bi*tch to do i would think. (if they did sectional armor)

basically what im trying to say is:
    <span style='font-size:10pt;line-height:100%'><b>ONE HIT BOX IS ENOUGH!</b></span>

PS: not to mention problems like FireArms has with its hitboxes and its "prone" feature... "###### i cant fit under this damn log while im prone!" syndrome
