The Good Thing About Ns:c

I have been following the threads on NS:C (it looks very interesting), and I decided that there is something very good about NS:C. That is, it makes it possible to train as a marine without being to dependent on the COMM.

For instance, in pub games (and I don't have the time to join a clan), you often do not receive many weapon upgrades, and have to go with LMGs against Onos - which makes the learning game somewhat frustrating.
I think the marksmanship of many people will go up.

I am very much looking forward to train in NS:C, and then play some more NS.

It looks nice...but how does the game end? is there rounds?do you still build stuff?

You are right about one thing, in combat you do spend a lot more time on the high end of the tech tree, however this isn't really the best way to train a person for normal ns. There are a fair amount of differances between the two modes and each one requires a totally differnt plan.

As for the round ending, it happens when the marines lose their command chair, or the aliens lose their hive. And no, you can't build stuff, but gorges are still very useful (webs and heal spray).

Thats obvious, but NS has no need for well trained marines, we've got plenty of those already. What NS really needs is a mode to train commanders.

Actually, that's not true at all.
There are plenty of comms who get frustrated by lack of aim and lack of knowledge, etc.

You can train pretty well off-line as a comm, I think it's just scary to hop into the CC for the first time.

Ns:c can make you very dependant on upgrades and can hurt you normal ns game.

Is there anyone to protect the hive/cc or just the players?

I dunno...# of competent marines >>>> # of competent commanders.

Im not sure if youve ever hopped in the chair yourself, but commanding offline (with somewhat iffy bots) and commanding 3+ people with their own thoughts and experience (or lack thereof) is a huge difference for me. Also, an offline game is a really poor representation of the fast-pace that youll be experiencing when comming a real game.

Yeah NS:C lets you use alot of the tech you don't get to use very often in normal NS. Its great fun. The downside is the "training" doesn't transfer over to regular NS. You won't be fighting Cara Regen Celerity Focus Silence Cloaking skulks in NS. Its nice to be able to rambo with your equiptment/gestations more and not constantly fearing death.

It's basicly team death match. But with goals, and levels.

The goal is to destroy the cc or hive. If that's destroyed you win.
You can't build anything. The cc is just there to be protected.
And for killing aliens or shoothing hives, or killing rines and biting the cc, you can level up.

NS:C is a very good addition to NS... Public NS can be very frustrating (no commander/idiot goes in and builds 5+ CCs/idiot builds SC first (in 2.0x)/a team full of idiots who all save for onos/idiot who builds a huge turret farm in base, the list goes on and on and on and on and on), but in combat, you don't have to worry about that. You can simply join a game, have a good time, and practice whatever you feel the need to practice. Need some time to get used to the new lerk flight system? Join a combat game. Want to improve your aim with shotgun? Join a combat game. Also, since you now get XP for doing the boring, team-play stuff (welding CC/healing hive), people actually do it on public (!!!), so you don't have to become frustrated over idiots on your team who just want to get JP/HMG or go Onos.

The best thing about combat is probably the fact that 4v4 and even smaller games are possible in combat, whereas they are pointless in normal NS. That, combined with the much quicker learning curve and generally more action-filled games, makes combat a very good game to play on LAN with a couple of friends.

However, NS:combat isn't as much fun in the long run as normal NS. It's nowhere near as intense or thrilling. Killing an Onos is like "oh well, he'll be back in 20 seconds", and you never get to sneak into the alien hive to build a phase, and the team-play required is pretty much non-existant.
