I personally use "Onos", because it's consistent with the manual.

QUOTE (Onos @ NS Manual)

Summary: The dreadnaughts of the Kharaa, the Onos are tanks – highly armored and very powerful. They are so large they cannot use crawlspaces and many of the narrow passages found on human ships and bases. This does not limit their effectiveness very much – the Onos is the highest level response to any threat, requiring large amounts of resources to gestate, but paying off with truly awe-inspiring strength.

"Oni are running rampant!"

I use Oni because it's more noticably different and because... well... it means 'demon' in japanese; one makes you say 'oh no' (and probably dead), a crowd makes you scream and run XD

In certain builds of 2.1, i'd call n number of oni/onoses/onifluffilous wastes of n*100 res.

Onos. Why? Because Oni isn't right. There is no -os word that becomes -i (to my knowledge). It is -us to -i, as someone mentioned. Also the root words of Onos is oh no, and oh I doesn't exactly fit, eh?
As stated in a thread about a year ago, multiple onos are bad news

erm?
I personally use Oni, since I seen it in some changelog and got a laugh off of it. It sorta, stuck...
The sad thing is that's hardly a joke from 1.04. It was always 'ONOS!' and then 'F4!'.

*Edit* not enough oni coming....
Seriosuly though, the wierdest plural of Onos that I've seen to date is...
**Drumroll**
Onars

Actually, to qualify for a -i plural it'd need a -us ending, not the -os it has. Oni is just a retarded and annoying plural form. I use onos, though Space Cows has a certain alllure.
2) Onosaurus-Rex
3) Cow
4) Space-Cow
5) Big fat ugly alien
6) Big F***ing piece of S***
Actually, I only heard 6) twice in games so far........
ive seen an identical thread and its is Oni
however, in game, I may yell out "watch out for the big **** up elephants!"
It has been a few years but I think that in latin, the -os turning into a -i happens in the second declention, plural ablative form. I may be wrong about that though...too lazy to go look it up right now...
And thus, u get Onos.
in ver2.0+, Onos dun rule, they are merely very annoying so marines will say " OH CRAP!!! "
And thus, u get Ocrab.
