Quitting Hl/ns Suddenly While Playing

<div class="IPBDescription">Has anyone met this problem before ?</div> Hello, there.

Just recently my ns got **** up, without me having changed anything (I can't remember at least). The problem is easy: I join a game of ns, and start playing. Then, without any special button or anything, hl suddenly quits and see the desktop. Another strange thing is the desktop then having **** up colours, but I don't mind, but the quitting pisses me of. So I browsed the forum without finding any post on it, and decided to ask if anyone knows of a solution, or has met the problem before. I have tried installing ns again, it did not work. As to my computer, if that has any value to the problem, its i an AMD 1,4 Ghz, 256ddr geforce3, etc. Shouldn't be a problem I guess, still it keeps on quitting every single time, after, well, sometimes 5 min sometimes 20 min. It's really frustrating. As to other mods I haven't gotten the problem yet, haven't played them too much lately anyway. If anyone has a solution, I'll be greatful, I hope my problem was clear enough....

PS. looking at the preview I am not allowed to say ****, is this some kind of religious forum ?

    As for the gamma getting messed up, NS uses 'overbrightning'(it sets your monitors gamma ramp to a higher value), go into your ns catalog and run ResetGamma.exe to restore the normal value without having to restart.

    Have you tried re-installing NS? You can also try another version of the graphics card drivers, this sometimes helps, but if you aren't having problems with other mods than NS I doubt it will.

    I tried with dod yesterday, and after playing a while it happened there as well, so it might be a problem for whole hl then. I did try reinstalling both ns and hl, without it helping. Then i closed down all my programs except explorer and systray, and then it worked! However I dont feel like closing down every program when i want to play, but if not find any smart sollution I'll have to live with it. Thanks for your reply anyway.

    I too have experienced this problem. However, when it crashed, my desktop was not screwed up and it only happened in ns and not firearms or counter strike. Like you, it happens at random from 5 to 20 mins in to the game. My computer is not the most top-of-the-line you have ever seen, but it runs well enough without too much lag... Here are my system specs...

    Toshiba Satellite Mobil Intel
    Intel Celeron Processor
    1.50 GHz
    512 MB Ram
    Windows XP Home Edition
