<div class="IPBDescription">How good is your PC?</div> I was just curious as to what everyone plays on. Also, I'm curious as to what everyone's upgrade plans are for the near future? (as in what you are upgradeing for HL2, as if any other game actually matters? <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo--> LOL! <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> j/k). But really, what are different people planning on getting next?

My computer, which is busted untill I get my lazy butt to take it to a shop to get it fixed has a 1.4 Gigahertz AMD athalon CPU, a 64 mb ati something-or-other, not sure but works great, a 15 inch screen, I sit so close it doesn't really matter, integrated sound, 5-button mouse, basic speakers, standard windows keyboard, and cable internet with which I somehow once got a 3.5 mb/sec d/l rate.

I plan to upgrade eventually, but no specific plans of what or when.

edit: I only paid like $300 for it all as my mom decided to upgrade too and I got some of her older but good parts like my 30 gig HD and the not-too-old processor

currently: an old pentium 3, 700mhz, 128 meggy of rammies dinosaur.

however, I just ordered this new system:
    <img src='http://cimic.rutgers.edu/~pexter/system.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
anyone think I chose poorly? I'm no computer guru and went mainly on advice from forumites :>

    2.4GHZ AMD Athlon XP+
    512 DDR Ram
    80 GD
60 Watt 6 Speaker surround sound/Plantronics Audio 90 Headsets/ on a Plantronics Switcher(switch from speakers to headsets with a button)
on a Enermax Pre-Modded case/w window and front panel lights.

    Soon:
Radeon 9800 A-I-W Pro - Was going to get it for christmas but since HL2 is prolly gonna be delayed again ill wait and get a 500$ camera instead(Kodak ES DX-6490)

No sound card, Dont need one i never use my surround sound and my XM Radio plugs into my speakers directly so it sounds very good.

Mine is (according to me anyway) a mid-ish range system.

    -1.5 processor (Athalon of course)

-Radeon 9700 pro (the newest part, hence way more powerful than the rest of my system. Got it because I actually believed HL2 was coming out in September)

    -Extremely obscure sound card (SiS7018)

    -384mb RAM

And it crashes a lot for some unknown reason (probably some BIOS tweaking required).

But it plays NS. And that is all that matters.

I just got a nice check in the mail for a logo i designed for a company.
which im gonna use to build another good fast computer <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

BOO: what a deliciously eerie and cool-looking system. and wow, enough money for designing a logo to build a new computer?? I'm in the wrong business...

also, I think I'm spamming this topic.

I used to have 384mb of RAM \o/

And DiscoZombie my personal prefernce would be to not go for 64 CPUs yet, but then again I'm adverse to paying through the nsoe for cutting edge and watching it half in price every month after I've bought it ;p
Think about it, you spent more on your motherboard RAM and CPU than most people do on a full system =\

    My system =
    2500+ Barton Athlon o/c to 2gig
    512mb 2100 DDR
    1x40gb Primary Drive
    1x120gb Secondary Drive
9200 Radeon o/c to something else...I'm entirely unsure what
ASUS A7N8X-X mobo with onboard sound
Professional hall standard amp wired into 7 speakers (slightly OTT for a room 8 foot by 10)
And the oldest 15" monitor ever, that still somehow reaches a resolution of 2048x1024

feh, I guess you're right, it is, like, 3x the price of a non-64 cpu isn't it... you can see that, since I'm having them build my PC for me, I'm a little scared of tinkering myself, so I figured I'd go mostly state-of-the-art so that I wouldn't have to touch it for a good while hehe... I'm skimping on the video card -- getting the ATI 9600 pro instead of the 9800, so I'm saving $150+ there, though maybe I should have skimped on the processor instead of the video card...

hahaha Hey TROJAN we have the EXACT same computer.... well MOBO, proc, and video. I have 1 gig of ram and only a 80 gig maxtor.

So far it looks like we own the bestest computers on the board! OWNED!

    TO DISCOZOMBIE-

The 64 bit mobo/processors are so damned expensive right now, if you can wait, they will be cheap around next spring probably.

And one other thing, you could also save money by building it yourself dude! It is so simple you would be amazed. The computer I am on now was the first I ever built, using nothing but the instructions that came with the MOBO. It's not difficult at all.
