<div class="IPBDescription">An issue of balance</div> It seems like marines rarely win. I can think of one game I've played in the past few days where the marines won, and I've played a good number of games on different servers.

The marines have a large disadvantage. The aliens easily spread out and cover the entire map, while the marines are still res hunting. This game's more alien-biased than DOD is axis-biased, and the bias there is pretty bad.

    If you've got a good team and a good com, rines can easily win... unfortunatly, on pubs, that is rare.

    You should try the "Guns4back2school" - Server (26 slots). Marines win alot of games there...

    Strange thing, I've noticed that in games larger than 9 people on each team the marines tend to win more than the aliens. Are you playing on small servers?

    no wonder marines are winning all the time there isnt enough res to go around for 13 players.

    From what I've observed, the Kharaa team on small (< 5-6 players per team) games have an advantage, since their res piles up quick if they all drop early RTs, while the marines can't split up into many squads and expand quickly/take down Kharaa RTs.

    In larger games (6 or more players) the marines have an advantage because their greater numbers allow multiple squads which help the comm expand quickly. The kharaa resource buildup is much slower since incoming res is split among more people, even if their team caps nodes early.

    All this on pub servers with average players on both teams, and assumed equal numbers of uncooperative retards on each team.

    The larger the teams are the better chance rines have. At around 7-8 players per team you start to see balance. 9 or more marines start to win a lot more than aliens (giving somewhat equal teams of course). There are of course many many balance threads along these same lines, you might wanna look for those as I know most people are tired of talking about it.

    it all has to do with the munber of people on each team, because alien res is split between players evenly(ie. 9 rts with 3 people gets res 3 times faster than 9 rts with 9 people) also has to do with the ambitiousness of the experienced players and the com.(ie. people who move out to secure resnodes early, and secure hives before aliens can.) I have won 4 rounds as comm, so it does happen. but skulk rush at the start can hurt the whole game. its all in the strategy. and on most maps the wins are 1marine win: 3 alien wins. but on some servers it can be 1marine win: 2alien wins. just has to do with ambitious marines, and alien coordination.

    Actually, try the Lunixmonster. Games there are usually between 6v6 and 8v8, and it has a fair number of marine wins. If you can play there for a few hours without seeing marines win, you're really out of luck. It can be found at 64.237.35.206:27015

    Personally I think the problem is on public servers newbs go marine. Maybe it's because their afraid aliens are complex to control. I've played on servers where newbs are not allowed and marines win half the time. Though I think the game still might be a little imbalanced toward Aliens, very little. I hope when their balancing that they remember to keep the game fun.

    I don't know - I don't go to any one server, but I've seen a fair amount of marine wins. As long as more of the marines are clued in than the aliens, you've got a good chance.

    well, skill aside, and team size aside; there does still seem to be an alien advantage.

    sure, you dont believe me because the teamsize thing and personal skill thing make it hard to see, but keeping skill equal and teamsize at six; over half of the CAL 6v6 games ive seen have been 1-1 alien split.

    do we all suck at marine? sure you could say that... is there still a balance issue to be worked out? yep.

    Agreed that size of teams is one of the factors, but even in small games, when I'm comming, my object is to send my team out to secure an RT or two, and then send every single marine to a single Kharaa RT and I tell them "I don't care if you all die, just take that RT down."

    Do that a couple times in the first minutes of the game, and the aliens are hurting as no one has any res and towers are few and far between.


    BTW I win a lot.

    Depends on who you ask. Back when I played on the newb filled gibgames servers, it was 90% alien win. I'm playing on h2o, reaperville, and a bunch of other servers now that actually sport some very good players. In short: Change servers.

    yes and all this is opposed to the huge advantage that marines had in 1.0x, lil bit of colum A , lil bit of colum B kinda. Anyways by the looks of 2.1, marines will have the advantage again (sigh) so does that mean in 2.2 aliens will have the advantage again?

    2.1 is still in BETA. I wish people would wait until the final version has been released before they make premature judgements, but I know that's not gonna happen.

    My most regular server Tactical Killing Academy's Dedicated Server (|TKS| clan server) 64.74.140.56:27015, the rine win loss would be about 2:1. I really have no good reason for why that is, but it is an open public server, so it isn't true that the game is always balanced for the aliens on pubs. You soon learn, playing on this server, how frustrating playing as alien can be. Oh, they do have the armory heal plugin, that prolly makes some difference, but I wouldn't expect as much as is shown.

    More than weapon balance, player numbers and map differences, the single biggest factor in balance is the commander. A good com can turn defeat into victory with some lateral thinking and quick reflexes. Where as a crap one will manage to turn a 2 hive lock down with a good res flow into a defeat, by perpetually farming and leaving the initiative to the aliens.


    I think the current build is easily the best balanced yet. I join games by going random and know that with a good team there’s a fair chance of winning, which has not been the case in previous builds. It’s not perfect, but think how infinitely better it is now than a mere year ago <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
