Well, around this time last week I did a bit of freelance PR work and sent an Email to an Australian PC games magazine (PCPowerPlay) about NS, but I haven't heard back from them yet.
Hmm, I wonder if I should have asked Monse first <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->
im also going to send some emails to the 2 or 3 important video-games magazine here in Spain. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> they post an article about it and if they've got space, they'll put the beta in the cd.
Hm...since im properly the only player in Denmark, i guess it's up to me to spred the news...again...lol <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
i've allready told about the game to a few of my friends, and today "while reading a PC magazine" i though "whouldent it be cool to have a review or the game on the cd?"....of course YES...so the mission will go on!
here in sweden.. alot of peeps already knows.. still its "mantiz, how does this n that work, when will it be out" =/.. most larger swedish sites has info on NS, screenies(legit?) etc. Also, links and yada yada.
A few magazines has mentioned or featured a little something about NS in sweden as well.. so us swedes will definetly be on the frontier with em americans.. yup yup.
I can't say anything about NS since I'm (edit) not (/edit) on the dev team and don't know their policies regarding this sort of thing, I can tell you what I know from experience with three other mods:
A few (probably 4 or 5) will email the team leader and request permission to put the build on their gaming CD. Quite a bit of german mags do this, and also PC Gamer UK (read: very cool bunch) does this a lot too. If the mod gets to be insanely popular, PC Gamer US (read: jerks) will even ask to put it on too. Mostly though its magazines that aren't really heard of that much.
Then there are going to be even more magazines, mostly in europe, who don't even bother to ask you. They just throw it on their CD and don't even think twice about it, even when EULA's that come with the mod specifically say not to. After all, most mod teams are based in the US and are ran by amatures who can't afford to sue a Europeon country over something like that. In fact, there is one German magazine (that I can't remember the name of), while they ask you first, will put your mod on their CD even if you explicitly tell them no.
Some mods teams want the most coverage and don't care how, so they will let whoever wants to put the mod on cd do so. Why would a mod not want their stuff on CD you might ask?
Well, some mods don't, for many reasons. One is the fact that the magazine and its publisher are going to make money off your mod because its on the cover. Somebody is gonna buy the magazine to get your mod which, while is a good feeling, doesn't put any pennies in your pocket. Most people don't like the idea of somebody making money off of your hard work. Also sometimes there are issues with copyright, such as when CS went retail they had to change the names of the guns because of copyright issues. Action Quake 2 had to do a similar thing with their skins and player models when it was put on the Quake 2 mission pack. In some places being on a magazine might be considered "retail" and thus copyright stuff gets more sticky.
Isn't it nice how I give a 1 page answer to questions you didn't ask? I would erase the last few paragraphs but it took so much time to write them that you're just gonna have to deal with it <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Yes, someone of the german ones here should mail to GameStar, the best german magacin (yes yes... whos the first one that say taht PC Action is better?.. they are both good). Im shure they make a preview and put it on the CD/DVD.
PC Action? Good? Well, if I want what they're offering, I'd rather buy a Playboy...
Anyway, I sent a bilingual mail to the devs in which they can simply replace the name of the mag (i.e.: PC Games / PC Action / Gamestar) and then send it to them a while back. Haven't heard about what happened to it, though.

the cool thing is, that the german magazines always try to put such mods on their cd <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->, as long as it is not criminal like dod 3.0 with the nazti symbols, but nw it is in <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
Heehee... It's funny how Germany loves to edit out and cover up that part of their history. No one hates Germany for it! They just hate Hitler! <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->
Just FYI, we do <b>not</b> try to erase this part of our history - on the contrary, there is no other topic that still gets as much attention, no part of Germanys history is that closely monitored.
Yes, we hate Hitler. Is there anyone better to hate?
