<div class="IPBDescription">skulk too tired.</div> ive been trying a lot lately to xenocide, and then leap forward like a crazy exploding rocket. but i cant seem to make it. i xenocide, then switch to leap and press it, but my guy doesnt have enough energy to leap, and i end up exploding way off target. ive done what some people say, get adrenaline upgrade and switch like lightning, but the skulk is still too tired to have the energy to go.
am i missing something? im probably just forgetting something obvious and stupid. can anyone enlighten me?
anyway, im sorry if this was asked before. i did one of those search thingies, but couldnt find anything.

The delay has nothing to do with scripting and wasn't by design (it's lag caused by the client confirming that the weapon is available on the server).

I don't think so, because many MANY times, I'll run into the enemy base as a skulk or onos, then smack '4', and press 'attack'.
Nothing.
Smash my mouse button like there's no tomorrow. Nothing. Nadda DAMN THING HAPPENS.
Switch back to weapon 3 and attack, just to make sure I'm not stuck in some quasi-lag-zone.

Get shot to death.
Try again and end up xenociding in hive.
It happens like 1 in every 50 lives, and it almost always gets me killed. Imagine if they made marine weapons randomly jam. That's what this is like.
Considering I asked him something like this a while ago and he gave me a 100% completely different answer that had not a damn thing to do with lag...

Now I'm curious, what did I say?

He wasn't banned before for no reason.
Additionally, should anyone be fool enough to aim up at you, they'll be missing all your mates. Which is quite handy in endgame rushes. Your explosion won't be blocked by any cover, and there's usually TONS of space for strafing to dodge any fire.
While I don't doubt that leapxeno combos can do a bit more damage, I find them tricky to pull off and thus prefer SoF roofhugging, which on the whole is far more reliable, and combined with celer/cara you can get into a base totally unscathed and airburst over the entire team.

I believe you told me it was an anti-script 'feature' that Valve implemented into the last patch.

Yes, the delay was added by Valve in the last version of the HL SDK (which Natural Selection was upgraded to for 2.0). If you go play Counter-Strike and crank up the latency you'll see the exact same delay with all of the weapons except the knife, which it doesn't require ammo and therefore doesn't need confirmation from the server before you can use it.
I doubt I told you that Valve implemented it as part of an anti-scripting measure though, since I have no idea why they did it and I don't really see how it would affect scripting.
The most important thing to take away from this thread is that it wasn't added to Natural Selection intentionally and we are trying to remove it for 2.1.

I have dsl and have never had trouble, xeno then leap.
Maybe your switching too fast. Also 95% of the time i xeno, b4 i get around a corner then leap,
you also have to be on max energy b4 you xen and i usually wait 1-2 sec b4 i leap so i explode in mid leap.
this might explain why it works on a more regular basis for me.
If its having to go to the server to do some checking, then it sounds more like a solution to a hack to me, given that the client is quite capable of keeping track of such things. Perhaps an infinite ammo or reload hack ? Maybe something to do with rate of fire and reloading (by tricking the client into a faster rate of fire than the server allows, you can reload more quickly?)
I find myself agreeing with Uranium since the effect does seem random given it reliant on latency and it can be annoying. You know, just that split second so you can't rely on it in combat.
Good news on the potential removal though.
I saw a skulk run past me. I saw him Leap. I saw him turn into a gestating egg. I saw him xenocide as an egg.
What's with that?

He must have leapt, activated xeno then evolved an upgrade.
Amen.
That's crazy. I've got to do that from now on for style points.

because i was flying as lerk once and pushed my hotevolve for regen and i died instantly. i didnt even hit the ground yet. just died!
so i was thinking evolving while you were leaping might kill you too.
