Small gamespy stuff on ns
There really isn't much in it, nothing we don't already know, but Gamespy has put up a little Modworld thing on NS. Not exactly informative, but it's still about NS. Read it here, in case you didn't notice it before.

But... but CrapSpy comes with free crap!

... oh... my mistake. You have to pay for the crap.

By the way, for anyone that's confused: Marine-Marine and Alien-Alien conflict is something being looked at for Version 2.

This IS gamespy were talking about. What few realize is that before now, many moons ago, Gamespy was actuallly doing an extremley good service to the gaming community. 'Course then one day some corporate decided to luanch half a million Planet sites...

Aw... what's wrong with that?..... Well okay, I can see a problem, but I find them to be very good. They are reliable, to some extent.... even if the AC2 beta is a Fileplanet subscriber exclusive....

I never liked gamespy, always seemed like an extra step and a waste of harddrive space to me.

Thats the main reason why I don't like gamespy much these days.It all seems all too impersonal. All planet sites have a similar format doing about the same thing.I liked it better when there was just a Planet Quake, and a few other sites that reported on a few other games. I miss the old days sometimes lol

    /begin rant

How come no one ever slams the UGO network? Or MPOG? Or Zeroping? Or any of the other dozen networks?

The reason is you need to learn to form your own opinions. People think it's fine to bag on GSI networks, that it's not 'cool' to like something that is very successful. Just like Microsoft. Just like an underground club in a city that Yuppies have discovered. Or a band that's on MTV and now a 'sell out'. Or Red Hat after it became available in stores.

The only reason for your scorn seems to be their success. Get better reasons that aren't snotty and actually have some bearing. It's obnoxious behavior, and being obnoxious will not make you any lasting friendships or respect. Look at all those linux guys that have never and will never kiss an actual live girl...

Don't forget Counter-Strike, though statistics alone show that there are some hypocritical counter-strike haters out there.

I can understand people not enjoying Counter-Strike for whatever reason, but you've got to see the irony of CS-bashing on a Half-Life mod forum. (As I so often see)

I don't think I have snotty reasons or I'm being obnoxious. I just miss the old days where I knew all the staff, and I could look forward to attending a beatdown and meet people I've heard from off some sites and forums. I just liked things when they were smaller. Although when gamespy went big I was happy for them that they were able to make a dream a reality.

If there's any one thing I hate, its when big companies post really obsolete information on something for all to see, thus giving everyone the wrong idea about something. This one wasnt that bad, but they used some really old information and an old picture

Now, now, MonsE. Calm down, sit back, take a cookie, and please don't nuke me if I tell you that while ranting about 'our' steretypical opinions you created your own stereotypes:

There are good reasons for hating Microsoft (just take a look at the EULA of WMP 7.0) that have nil to do with their success.
There are a lot of bands that, when starting to be broadcasted by the big ones, try to fit a certain schematic and thereby lose their own originality.
There are GS features (just remember the ha - ha - hilarious Daily Victim about the gamers atmoic vault that was nothing but a balant ad for the private servers) that are simply - look out, Nem's about to use the word - commercialist till no end.

Aside from that I pretty much enjoy GS, although I prefer other download sources, but if I criticise something about it, I don't want to be called obnoxious because some of the other critics could be.

Aha!!! As I was pointing out before, you are offering some legitimate reasons for disliking something: not just their being popular. I was not stereotyping anything, just telling people they need to form real reasons and opinions, not follow along like sheep.

So you handily helped to prove my argument, and I thank you. Now go invade Poland like all Germans do...

    Heh.

There are only so many reasons to dislike GSI or M$, but they are really good ones. It's a bit harsh to call people "sheep" just because they share these reasons.

Or should I call all those people who are enthusiastic about NS without having played it "sheep" too? After all, they didn't form their own opinion but are believing what others are telling them.

I reckon that this widespread "hatred" of GSI probably stemmed from the hating of FilePlanet. Which, I'd like to point out was a good service before the queing system started (which is the only major problem with the service IMO)

Apples and oranges. They don't like NS because it is small, they like the concept and what they've seen of the game pictures and movies. Quite a few of them will dislike NS if it becomes 'too popular' though. The whole point (missed by you), is that people do not share reasons for disliking something other than someone else telling them not to like it. We don't demand people like NS, we show them what it is and let them form their own opinons. Your argument is emotional, not logical.
