  i just had an old steam download on my comp and it found all the 3rd party mods so you dont need to get the big one unless you want to

  Install Half-Life, yes, but I'm not sure if the patch is needed. Probably best install it anyway to be safe.
  Get <b>Half-Life Steam Installer</b> from the list of possible downloads, once it's installed start up a game in HL and run it for just a couple of seconds and then quit; This will create the Half-Life directory in 'Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/your@email'. Now just run the ns installer and point it to the new HL folder. Natural Selection should appear under 'Third Party Games' in the steam game's menu.
  NS v2.01 can be played in steam, but the official steam version hasn't been released yet.
