Radio silence

Alien is watching you
I just read a "tale from the frontlines" and I think coil said something about breaking the radio silence during an attack.
Can the aliens hear if the marines talk with radio? Or are there messages like "need ammo at satellite dish" that both teams can see? Sorry if it sounds a bit confused but I am confused

Both teams have audible "radio"-style communications they can make - aliens can chuckle or request healing, marines can taunt, request orders/ammo/health, acknowledge orders, etc. These are all easily accessible (via the popup menu), but are also audible to all players in the vicinity.

I give you a reason why this topic could be transferred to the ideas forum:
What about a building for the aliens which makes it possible for them to "hear" all marine communication in a certain area? Maybe it could be used to secure hives. You build one in some distance to it, so that the aliens will know: "hey mike get thet GL here we're going to the hive..." and can defend it.
Maybe it should be pretty high in the tech tree cause it gives the aliens a big advantage. Just a thought.

I only have one complaint about this idea. I, to this day, do not believe the aliens should be able to hear English communications... for no other reason than the fact that they shouldn't be able to understand English.

That qualm can be rationalized that it's a psionic/telepathic device - that'd actually be cool, a defensive building called "Psi Node" or something like that, and it looked like a big pulsating mutant brain.

    >i think it would be cool if you could hear a parasited >marines voice com

Now *this* is an idea I like. A parasited marine's communications are intercepted by the enemy team. Whatever he says on the voice com is heard, and they can see the teamchat text he types.

This should be possible. At least the teamchat should be, as Neo-TeamFortress serverside mod for TFC has a feature of allowing the spy class to intercept teamchat for the other team, with closer proximity allowing more to be intercepted.

I would really like to see something like this in version 2. Hearing only one side of the conversation would not always be as useful as you might like, but it certainly would sometimes.

However, if this were to be implemented, should a marine no longer know whether he has been parasited or not? Would this mess up the balance too much? I still like the idea, anyway. Nice one, Snake!

Ok, I usually don't bump threads just to bump them, but I would really like to hear other's opinions on this idea on parasite allowing eavsdropping of communications, text or voice, or perhaps both.

(If this belongs in the Ideas forum so much that it aggravates a moderator, etc, I apologize.)

It would be better if you re-posted the idea in the ideas forum. Try not to get off topic like this. I don't want to move it because the main intent is a good question and has been answered in the correct forum.

If you want feedback, post it in the ideas forum and let this thread die.
