Yeah...
http://www.planetgloom.com

This game came out in late 1998 for Quake 2. It is very very similar to NS in the respect that it is largely based on starcraft, and has the major theme of Aliens(spiders) vs. Humans. I like it a lot, but i personally think it needs to be updated. However, the "commander" mode of NS makes it a lot more tantalizing

If you had done a small search, you would have found about 5 pages worth of posts on Gloom. But now the NS forum masses will be upon you. I wish you good luck...

Well, yeah, it's similar to Gloom in the sense there are aliens and marines, but then again, it's also similar to Aliens vs Predator, Starcraft, Half-Life, and even Thief. And then, I had once said, it slaps them all on the nose with a rolled up newspaper, and runs off, screaming into the night.

NS reminded me a Gloom, when I first saw it. But Gloom was a teamplay Death Match in essence. You collected frags to upgrade yourself. NS uses resource points. In Gloom, you could, and often were running off on your own, a one-man army. Teamplay was rare. In NS, you play as a team, or you are summarily digested (or shredded, or shot, as the case may be). The glory of the team rises above, here in the world of the Naturally Selected.

But, good sir, I welcome you to the humble abode we lovingly refer to as THE FORUMS.

    THANK Y- (END REVERB, PLEASE.)

    Thank you.

    -Ryan!

    On a small note...

Gloom doesn't suck. It can be quite fun... but it's a bit tricky to play (because it's in Quake 2).

NS is however, looking a lot better than Gloom.

at quakecon teamreaction revealed they were thinking about Gloom 2 for the DOOM III engine, but when the sucky multiplayer options were announced those plans were put on hold... :(

Team Reaction rules. Gloom was mind-blowing when it came out. I hope they continue with Gloom 2, even if they need to pick a new engine.

Multiplayer isnt that bad, its just gonna be bad for doom3 itself, the engine can handle more than 4 players... though youll still cant join a match in progress

I wonder whether id will change their minds. Their games live on multi-player (witness Quake 3) - it's the only reason people still play them (I know I don't still play sp Q2). The single-player on Doom 3 had better be really, really good.

I wonder what'll happen by release.
