How To Do A Final Base Assault

on the marines stupid!
Materials you need:

-3 hives (final base rush?)
-Onos
-Lerk (you!)

Optional materials:

-Fade
-Gorge
-As many skulks as possible

Ok, before you rush you should ask yourself some questions then react accordingly.

1.) Do they have an observatory in thier base?

If not, build sensoy chambers near their base and cloak and tell your teammates to sneak in their base... it works for every evolution. Just make sure you do lots of damage because those marines will get an observatory ASAP. Also the lack of observatory scans will allow you to build somewhat (marines can still see the chambers and the siege shoots).

2.) Do they have sieges?

If not, rush in with gorges with 100 res, plopping down Defense and offense chambers everywhere to soak up damage. ALso build Defense chambers as close to the marine base as possible. That is true in every situation though... always have Defense chambers set up before you think about attacking, it will save you time and res.

3.) Do they have Heavy armor?

If so, get an onos with cerelity and a lerk. The onos charges in as the lerk primals, then launches 2 umbra clouds leading to the nearest Heavy armor... then primals again as the onos devours a HA, then 2 more umbras on the way out as the onos runs out. The sheer speed of this type of attack amazes marines even today. One problem, you need a lerk that knows what to do when, because the lerk is the spice to this type of attack to make it that deadly in the first place. The onos does not have to be as skilled, as all he has to do is charge in and devour and run out. Rinse and repeat till the marines are depleted of HA. THEN you...

After those questions are delt with... its time to take out the base! yay

Gather as many of your forces as possible, hopefully your whole team. Now i am assuming they have turrets, so your team needs a couple carapice onos, a lerk, and as many gorges as you can have. Now the lerk primals and umbras the team as they run in. Gorges BILEBOMB, as much as possible. The two primal screamed, umbraed onos will gore as many turrets as possible, when they decide it is time to retreat, the whole team must pull out to heal. Yes you may lose a onos or a gorge or the lerk, but a massive blow will have been delt to the marines. If you have a large team, have some skulks save res for onos, and make the onos gore turrets till they die (suicide onos) while the skulks xenocide... then the skulks from last attack go onos (you should have all the RTs and the rest of the map secured) and contain till the first onos have alot of res so they can onos at the end of the next attack. Just keep attacking till the TF drops, then the marines usually drop with it. With large games, you can have a perma onos sit outside and contain while between attacks.

What about having almost your whole team go Gorge, 1 goes lerk, 1 goes Onos.

Then you get 2 Gorges to bilebomb the base, the rest put down OCs/healspray and Onos soak up the damage.

And of course the lerks role is so obvious

    Oh! Oh!

[OverUsedJokeAlert] You forgot the part where the lerks lift the gorges while the onos charges with 5 skulks on its back, then the fades use acid rockets to cloak the onos and skulks while the gorges spam tab to annoy the marines and the lerks spore/umbra rapidly while trying to chase the marines around. Then the onos jumps on top of the CC and all the skulks Xeno while the lerks try to drop the gorges on the remaining marines and the fades blink around trying to chase any escapies. Then you just kill the rest of the buildings. [/OverUsedJokeAlert]

Nice strategy but a little hard to get organized. I think it would just be easier to have a lerk spam umbra while the rest of the team rushes, but still, nice guide, I might try to get it orginized, but, well, you know how pubbers think, right?

Actually its pretty easy to organise. You just need yourself and one other player for the bulk of it.

Lets face it, you need one competent lerk, and most people reading this are competent. Second, you need an Onos, and an Onos is guaranteed on most servers.

The only thing you need after that is an agreement to all rush when someone yells OG OG OG.
  • DarkDudeDarkDude Join Date: 2003-08-06 Member: 19088Members
I think it would work wonders for clan matches but for pubs, good and bad, it still seems like it would be easier to do a 6 onos, 2 lerk rush. (you know, run in and gore everything in sight with some umbra support)

I just can't imagine getting enough people to listen to anyone trying to get this together. TeamLeader-"Ok, e-l337, you go gorge and spam oc's and dc's." e-l337-"But I wants too geet teh onis!" TeamLeader-"Fine, NSPlayer, you go gorge." NSPlayer-"No, I want the onos to!"

The Lerk/Onos rush is really nothing new, I've seen and heard about it ever since I've joined the community. What is new about this is how he has combined other end-game strats into this, such as a gorge rush and an out-of-base rush. (my personal favorite) it would work very well in clan play but I can't see it used in the majority of NS servers.
  • NecrosisNecrosis The Loquacious Sage Join Date: 2003-08-03 Member: 18828Members, Constellation
Well I've done it outside of clan play, its simple because the important parts of the variations can all be done by ONE person.

By endgame you've tons of res, nothing's stopping you gorging, dropping chambers, then base rushing till you die, respawn, and go seamlessly into lerk mode.

Let the rest of the chimps rush base as an onos, you can exploit their stupidity.

Aww, I could never do that.

Getting a decent lerk could be kind of difficult (I suck at lerking) because, let's face it, most pubbers don't like going lerk late in the game, they want to go onos and devour some people.

Then there's the problem with getting people to listen to me, I have no mic so I can't yell at people. *sigh* If I can find maybe 2 people that will watch chat messages then I can get it together. I'm off to try it again, with this new info it might work...

Server has no mods just unstuck program
    Marines:
At marine start. 1 RT, Fully upgraded HA, MT.
Seiges at each corner in the base.
T's lined up at the top of the elevator.
    6 or 7 GL's. The rest Shotties and HMG's.
1 or 2 of them have JP's that sneak out of base and cause trouble at other locations on the map.
    Vent is closed off.

I found it impossible to it take out and after a long stalemate marines won.
The alien team worked as a team and still couldn't do it. Noone could even get close to the base. With MT the marines just naded where ever aliens grouped up. The sieges prevented use from building anything close to the base. We tried everything!

With 3 hives on pub you just need to go lerk yourself, tell everyone else to go fade. This way you end up with a mixed group of aliens as some people will ignore you and go gorge and others will ignore and go onos because they have 100 res. Now just primal scream and umbra your little socks off and let the increased attack speed of swipe, acid rocket, gore, bile bomb and bite do the rest

Well in that senario... you need suicide carapice fade and gorge rushes with umbra and primal as stated. Also, that particular hive room (bast) is impossible for onos to fight in, so leave an onos outside the hive room, to clean up the counter-rush from the marines. Assasinate key buildings... go for arms lab first, the observatory, then Armory (especially when upgraded). Each suicide rush brings you closer to victory as they do not have the res to build more of those key buildings, but you have the res to replace the fades at any time. GL spam is not very effective against blinking fades... some people get caught up with onos being the game ender, but on places where you cant get them... tons and tons of fades do the job much faster.

All you need is xenocide. I once experienced a combined xenocide rush by seven or eight skulks. It was like....

"Okay, we got xenocided, let's start welding..."

    BOOM!!

"Alright, that wasn't good, comm we need a wel-"

    BOOM!!

    "Nede wldr!!"

    BOOM!!
    BOOM!!
    BOOM!!

    "OMG HElth wled ME!"

    BOOM!!
    BOOM!!

Great guide. Unless they are in a hive.
  • NecrosisNecrosis The Loquacious Sage Join Date: 2003-08-03 Member: 18828Members, Constellation
True, if they're in a hive you lose xeno, but you can still spore spam them for much the same effect, then rush with onos.

Your advantage in a hive is that there are TONS of ways in to most hives, so that spore spam is all too easy. Fades only lose acid rocket, so no probs there, gorges are unaffected also.

So you're only marginally set back, whereas the rines are well and truly scuppered.

Three hive fades own end rushes. Acid bath and wear them down. HA rush? Acid Bath....JP rush? Acid Bath. 5 fades can devastate ms with acid bath.

    Actually, something that works wonders:
    Alot of Oni

I firmly believe the gorge is the horribly underused hive 3 extended-endgame breaker. Web is ridiculously effective at stopping HA in its tracks. Just gorge, follow in a couple of onos, and spam it like there's no tomorrow. Once you've got up a decent amount of webbing, start going for individual marines. The onos will make short work of everything, and it's GG.

But as for when they're in a hive... Stomping/devouring celerity onos, umbra lerks, and bile bomb gorges are the best you can do.
  • NecrosisNecrosis The Loquacious Sage Join Date: 2003-08-03 Member: 18828Members, Constellation
Oni are actually remarkably hard to use in an endgame base rush, mostly because the rines are all aiming at the doors, and conveniently an Onos usually fills them.

Skulks and others can sneak in relatively unmolested, on a more regular basis. Onos ends up as a big bullet sink so that everyone else can do the real work. Oh, and if he DOES live, he'll get caught on a skulk/lerk/gorge on the way out and get grenaded to death.

They're useful as a big target, but not essential at endgame base rushing (unless they've a hive and for some reason you only have MC and SC).

Here's an idea, how about not waiting untill you have 3 hives, 5 onos and all the chambers, and instead attacking before the marine team has 50 turrets, and 5 HA/GLs aimed at the door.
