Major Connection Issues With Ns!

... please do help me!
Hey everyone, I'm having connection problems with NS (and half life in general and general Internet connection issues)

System specs:
1.79 ghz pentium 4
512 megs of SDram
32 meg TNT2 Model 64
Windows XP 5.1.0

This is what happened:
I was playing NS and downloading off of Emule yesterday when I accidently unplugged my dial-up DSL modem ... i have SBC Global DSL. Naturally, emule and Half life fritzed since I unplugged my modem. I quit from NS and exited to windows. I plugged my modem back in (usually, when i plug my modem back in, I'm online within 5 minutes since I have unplugged my modem accidently before ... just not while doing something as network intensive as playing an online game or downloading at high speeds).

I called SBC global tech support and they couldn't solve my problem for me. It seems as though i CANNOT go online using Internet Explorer, Emule, Kazaa, AIM, or half Life (i have tested all of these mediums).

So, i'm like what the hell ... i might as well try Netscape. And LOW AND BEHOLD, netscape 7.0 works! That is how i am posting on this forum right now.

So can ANYONE help me? I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers (updated last month) for my Realtek RTL8139 PCI Family Fast Ethernet NIC card and still nothing works.

I have tried Internet explorer, Emule, Kazaa, AIM, and half life and it says I am NOT connected to the internet. But this is clearly false because 1) i can use Netscape to connect to the internet and 2) that built-in windows connection program (u know, the one that has two flashing monitors in your quick-launch menu) says I'm online and transimitting/receiving.

I would be greatly (!) thankful if anyone can help me or at least provide some suggestions on how I should proceed to get this problem fixed. I mean I can go online using Netscape, but i can't play NS. gahhh!!

thanks for ur help everyone!

i dont know if this will help you.. but every time my cable modem goes insane/stupid, i do a number of things which usually work:

i reset the modem ( and the router, i dont know if you have one ), renew my IP address ( i dont know if you know how to do that ), and restart the computer ( which is the universal problem solver ). usually doing these steps once or twice makes everything good as new.

maybe if you try that, itll help. who knows.

thanks apathy but i already did the steps you mentioned.

I restarted my DSL via the power button on the back
i do not have a router
    i renewed my IP address
and i restarted my computer many times

I should mention that I just tried uninstalling my driver for my Ethernet card and reinstalling and rebooting

    It still doesn't work

    i wanna play NS!

can someone please give me more suggestions? thanks a whole bunch!

I don't understand how a hardware related incident (you pulling the cord out) can affect different pieces of software and the use of a network connection. Did you install or change anything drastically around the same time.

Ripping the cord out of the back of the modem may have damaged your modem, but i doubt that because some programs work and some don't. Really strange problem.

Did you have any kind of connection script that ran something that you weren't expecting?
