Increasing Number Of Keys You Can Use At Once

Yeah it's as weird as it sounds.

So while I try and ebay a new Nintendo Entertainment System as my old one has finally kicked the bucket, I was trying to play an emulated version of Super Mario Bros. Don't worry, it's all legal...

ANYWAYS, While trying to do a running jump over a chasm I found I can only press 2 keys at once... so while a running jump requires a direction, holding down a button and pressing another button (That's 3 at the same time) I can only press 2...

Does anyone know of a way to increase the number of keys I can press at once in Windows?

Odd question I know....

Oh well, back to Indiana Jones and then off to bury my NES....

I think you need a different keyboard. It's keyboard-specific. My last keyboard didn't beep and not accept input if I pressed more than 3 buttons at once. This one does.

    Either keyboard or motherboard specific.

Mmh, interesting, I think it's motherboard specific or some setting somewhere, because I recently upgraded my computer and I still use the same keyboard and it lets me press as many buttons at the same time as I can(that's 10, never tried more).
Before the upgrade, I had the same problem, I think I could press 3 or 4 buttons at the same time before it beeped.

There's something on stepmania about it and like they said it's pretty much a keyboard or motherboard thingy. If you're playing console games though you're better off just buying some sort of gamepad for your PC. I use microsoft sidewinders because you can daisy chain them and have as many as you want off the 1 port =D
That's how me and my friends can play some of my emulation stuff (chances are I've got most of the stuff being emulated in my cupboard so it should be legal too). With 4 pads you can enjoy some nice 4 player bomberman action without hunting down a multitap for your old snes

edit: there needs to be more 4 player games -.-

Get a USB controller... it makes playing emulation so much easier.

I think it's a problem with XP. In HL I use to use something like six keys at once or something, four or five, whatever, but I never had a problem. Then I switched to XP. SAme keyboard, but now I can't use all those same buttons at once anymore.

Try not to use the arrow keys but rather letters(ex.: wasd, ijkl).
I only get 2 max input with the arrow keys and 3-4 with the letters.

My old USB keyboard didn't complain no matter how many keys I used, it seemed. But after I busted it, and grabbed this cheapo logitech Ps2 Port (not related to the playstation, it's the old school keyboard port) I can no longer type more than 3 or 4, can't remember.

I've found that there are "clusters" on my keyboard that I can't press more than two of at a time. Like I can't press W A and Shift together, but there's no problem with W A and V. I've got a USB keyboard, I think that might be a factor.

    PS2? OLDSKOOL?!?!?
