Losing sanity
OK, here it goes. Iv'e been having this problem for quite a while now but i just can't take it anymore! When i join an NS server my brightness, gamma ect. settings change by huge bounds. Iv'e tried the gamma tune slideshow that comes with ns and have got it perfect, yet when i join a server BAM! It changes. All other mods look fine and every other game for that matter. Iv'e even tried tuning software but still can't get it right. Iv'e reinstaled NS and Hl several times with no effect. The strange part is that the gamma settings only start once iv'e joined a server And only stay in effect untill i exit to the main title screen. Search wasn't working when i posted this and i read all the posts in tech support with no luck. Please i'm begging you, save me! Also (it may not be related) sound only works once i join a server and stops working again when i get to the main title screen (all half-life mods).
THANKS!!!
UPDATE: Transfered to steam and it's LESS bright but still unplayable, The thing is it would be fine if i could turn the ingame gamma slider down all the way, but for some reson it woun't let me keep it lower than halfway. Example below.
Join server and it gets bright as above just not as bright as before, so i go to options lower gamma and brightness all the way (game restarts) and whala!!
GUESS WHAT!?
gamma slider bar is now in the middle of bar!!
by this time i am beyond insanity, i fear that if this problem isn't fixed the demonic pies in my wall will overcome me. Please help!
kinda funny though because i have saved different settings for each map lol
THANKS!!!

OWWWWWWWW
HL and NS are system HOGS, upgrading both would just be nice
now lets play that, what video mode are you playing in?
if it Aint OGL we got problems.
NS officaly dosn't support software rendering, and it actualy dosn't support D3D either (If I use it I get an unreliable wall hack ;P)
so first up would be to update video drivers and make sure you are running in OGL
Open GL 800x600 with EAX support
And i'd get a new computer but i have no idea what a good price is and i don't know what names to trust
wiat, opengl with EAX? eax is audio stuff...
your sure you are running OGL, try switching what settings you are ussinging (like 3dfx minidrivers or something), also possibly try playing with D3D
and did you update your video Drivers?
thanks
scroll all the way down to the "other" category and choose off-topic.
Try this. Start a lan server, set sv_cheats 1 in the console and use the command setgamma, 1 would be normal, 2 would be max overbrightening, anything inbetween would be more moderate overbrightening. See if setting it to 1 helps any, if it does then my guess is that you allready have your gamma ramp set too high, if you are using an nvidia card this would be something like display properties->settings->advanced->geforce something or other->colour correction or something such and then the adjust the gamma slider, 1 is normal here. If turning down the gamma in ns on a lan server using sv_cheats and setgamma helps(something you cannot do unless sv_cheats is on), you can turn down your gamma in the display properties->...->colour correction tab and the effect will be the same as using a lower setgamma value in NS.
