<div class="IPBDescription">very exact conditions for good gameplay</div>

Why is it that, of any hopes to have a good balanced fun game I have to be

1.)In a clan
2.)6v6
3.)Heavily admined
4.)Heavy amount of regular players

This is in no way a flame-bait, however if you plan to post hostilities, don't waste your time here. Post experiences, suggested fixes, etc.

All those things are true for *all* games to a smaller or greater extent. The more complex a game becomes, the more complex the conditions to enjoy it becomes. This is however assuming that the player himself is developed enough.

I find the exact same thing to be true for CS, which I play a lot. I don't find it enjoyable unless the majority of players know the map, the choke points, how to give backup and cover, and of course be decent at the actual game specifics such as weapons.

Of course I am also a bit social, so to thouroughly enjoy it the players also have to be pleasant, fun and witty, and not have annoying names, habits or communication styles.

Now if you only wondered why games on non-adminned servers are rarely balanced, my theory is that people are weak and stupid, in general.

On pubs you just have to assume people play for fun, and having fun does not always include winning the game. Fragging can be fun, commanding can be fun, chomping your own leg can be fun... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

I think its the fact that balance is very determined by a players knowledge rather than skill in most cases. A game like this has a high learning curve, 2 very different teams and a heavy reliance on everyone knowing what to do where to go and how to tackle the problem.

There are still issues like teamsize that can unbalance aswell but that can easily be fixed with a new or revised res system. As for learning curve etc trying to fix that is up to the player more than the developer as he cant keep simplifying a game so that it is even, no matter what the variables.

I dont know would a manual revision be a good enough fix??

Alot of general NS players wont look at a website to get better at the game, they just keep playing till they realise something. Clans etc do look at these kinds of things.

As for gimps that join just to screw the game well u can expect them anywhere, just think 1 day those gimps will grow up and have even gimpier kids who'll mess it up and ur kids will be the ones complaining.

When I hosted servers for the EC community, we had a few map PT's with regulars only, mazion and some other maps, these were regulars that *always* listened to orders and played the game the way it was meant to be played.

Only thing you need for a good game is even teams and people that you know will listen and not lame it up.

Pfft, yeah right. We never listened to orders <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

no matter how perfect a game is, theres always that one 12 year old cs lamer who figures out a way to ruin everything and then they get diciples and copycats and then u end up here posting about it <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

I find NS DOES require very exact conditions to be fulfilled to enjoy it and not have it turn into a FUBAR game.

I would like to add one condition :

Vets decide to NOT mass join aliens, skulk rush a bunch of newbies and end game within 1 minute.

Think its not possible?Think again.I once played 5 entire maps of nothing but skulk rush wins, with the vets who did the mass-joined repeatedly complaining that the marines sucked too much.

FA has specific conditions, as does DOD and a few others. NS has the most different system to those conditions. Look at RT spots as flags if you will. So in some degree it is very much the same.

I think just about all servers needed to be heavily admined - but yes, NS servers do require regular patrol or more community participation to get someone who just spams CCs or does something similar to that.

6vs6 is the optimal number with the resource system. Anything higher is alright but it makes it more difficult for the aliens to get much res from having towers, and more reliant on killing - while marines have their shared pool giving access to buildings at the same rate (granted they expand fine).

I think with any mod, a heavy amount of regular players is preferred. It makes the challenges much more interesting and fun. You can develop gameplaying personalities beyond "Haha headshot noobed."

I'm not in a clan because having a group of regulars to play with in a server is practically the same thing without the drama or requirements.

I played NS when it first came out (beta) and then stopped playing for a long time and have recently started again. I don't like it as much as i used to. In the beta days you used to have much more back and forth games, you could fight back after a bad start, because securing a hive was crucial then. now, the game goes one of two ways. either the marines get enough res to upgrade and win or they dont. simple as that. before it was a battle for the hives. now, its a battle for res.

anyway as to your question there is a relatively simple solution to a lot to the problems with NS. Make only two entrances. 1 - Commander 2- Random team. IE - the first person to join commander becomes the mariens commander. after that all people are added to random teams. there should be a x second delay between joining and being added to a team.

I kinda doubt you were in the Betas, so I assume you mean 1.0. Well, let's just say that this hive dependancy didn't work out too well. As for your solution, in how far would that help?

Well, if none of those conditions are met (IE: the game is gonna suck) I usually do things that the other team wouldnt expect. Once i snuck up super stealthy style on a gorge and saw his name. I just watched him finish a resource tower while i was crouched behind him, and when he got done he tried to back up and bumped into me, when i typed "Hi" and he turned around. we both laughed as my team got stomped, and we jumped around the level.

on most servers most people follow clantags, which makes for most good players on one team, and the less gifted on the other ^^ gg
but if you have equally skilled teams, NS is awesome no? games where hives are being built and wrecked left and right..on mineshaft i had that once, i was on alien team and we lost like 7 hives in total lol <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
and everyone was like vgg omg gg vg great game

...but cos NS isnt idiot friendly, it isnt always fun <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
