Anyway, it's tough to pinpoint what series would really do well over here... But evangelion had strong characters and a good dash of mystery behind the plot, and Cowboy Bebop had style to burn... Pretty good formulas for popularity right there. Other than that, it's tough to say... Love Hina hasn't been doing well over here, despite the strong manga sales, right (or was it vice versa)? Are there sales figures we can reference? I remember wayyy back in the day, Animerica used to print a top ten sales chart in America...

Cowboy Bebop is about american as anime can get. The music's ours, the style is ours, the story is ours, Only difference is that its made by Japanese folk. I mean, jeez, the American voice acting is better than the Japanese!

Hey, I wasn't bashing gameplay mechanics... if it seems absurd to do, I'll do it. It's also because I didn't feel like writing a new thread about H&D2, and, uhh, here was a thread about another WW2 game. Yeah.
If you liked Evangelion, I'd recomment Argento Soma. You'll notice the similarities, but ignore them as much as possible... it's an incredibly literate work.
With Bebop... it felt like American culture filtered through a Japanese lens. That's why I enjoyed it so much. The smooth operator/slightly not-with-it hero, the constantly nostalgia ("it's been a while"), the post-bop jazz. It felt celebratory.
Love Hina is the archetypal style of serialized romance/comedy anime that I really really don't like, personally.
I thought that Project IG was a bad choice... he wanted ultra-violent anime, and he chose a professional, computer-based anime company that's known for its clean lined, silky smooth work.. He should have gotten the guy who did Hokuto No Ken. But I really didn't enjoy Kill Bill anyway.
I forgot to mention... anyone here seen Now And Then, Here And There? I've been meaning to buy it for months now. That right there is an excellent anime.

I've seen three episodes of it so far, and it's developing nicely. They're developing the characters and the background very well. In addition, it's not all about Henrietta; the third episode is all about Rico. I don't know if it's going to give all the characters equal time in the spotlight or if this is just the introduction phase, but it's nice to know that the story does flesh out properly. I got Last Exile on me. Its pretty cool. I run the local AnimeServer for my dorm, so I currently have 200+ hours of Anime on my harddrive, and am quickly running out of space. (DVD Burner, come quickly! I summon thee! Relieve the strain of my harddrives!)
Quanaut, Stick with the Love Hina Manga. The show is good, but the manga is far better. Fanny, I know what you mean about Ghost in the Shell SAC. I think its one of the best series I have. (Its pretty hard to top Evangelion) However, on other points, you seem ot be a bit overly negative... Oddly enough, easily the most popular Anime series in my dorm is Naruto. Ep 57 just aired this morning, and every week I end up with mad fanboys beating down my door for the next episode. (In fact, There is one sitting right next to me now, so I should probably conclude quickly) It starts off kinda slow, but quickly picks up speed, once the fighting starts.
Full Metal Alchemist? Pretty cool. Currently, I prefer Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu.

Right lets get this happening.
Lord Fanny, I find your opinions biased and while you try to convey accurate knowledge of series you come off looking like an idiot in my eyes. You call for a comparison between Neon Genesis Evangelion and Argento Soma, and that's quite your right to do so, but when you say RahXephon is crap when it is obviously the series 'closest too' sharing similarites with Evangelion... Well, something is obviously wrong there. The very first episode alone of RahXephon was simply dripping with similarites, I knew many friends who watched it straight away and told me "This is just ripping Evangelion off, of course that chick is Rei Ayanami and that guy is Shinji Ikari!" I don't think you gave it enough chance before you made your opinions on it. As Venmoch stated I immerse in as many series as I can, thus (As elitist as this is going to sound) I have a fairly good eye for judging a series. You call The Vision of Escalfowne and Angelic Layer bad, but I put it too you that their pros far outweigh any cons you may throw against their good names. You're judging them by placing them in the same demographic as the stuff you normally watch. Hell I don't watch many series aimed at girls, but at least I don't have the gaul to to immediately dismiss them because they 'aren't my thing'

Inf, I have read the Naruto Manga too. (Well, as much as is released, It is still coming out, currently on volume 22 and still going...) And I must say, Naruto is one of those rare few series where the Anime is actually better than the Manga. Yes. Its true. Why is this? Because the Anime follows the Manga incredibly closely, to the point where some images from the manga is simply colored animated, and inserted. This does not make it better, it is the fact that not only does it follow the manga closely, but it actually adds more to the series. There are more scenes in the Anime, and they dont feel out of place. Its really quite well done. And my dormmates arent ignorant of the Manga, they are fearful of it. Why? Because I threaten them with spoilers. Personally, I detested DBZ. Why do I like Naruto? Because unlike DBZ, It actually appears to be going somewhere with a coherent storyline, and taking its time, rather than running out of storyline, adding more seasons, and wasting time.
Im a fansub fiend too, because Im a pennyless College student, with an internet connection, and nothing else. But then again, thats all I need. Except for more hard drive space.

First off- ya, some american stuff is cool. But then, how do you explain people liking Furi Kuri and Evangelion? Niether have been done before, but both are immensely popular. Also- Infinitum has forgotten more about anime than you'll ever know. He's closer to Japan than us too(aussie's rock). <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Still sore about my poking at you in your Call of Duty thread? Last I remember, you were calling me an idiot because I didn't want to play the game. This is an internet message board, don't take things so SERIOUSLY, honey!

Ya, I'm a bit sore, I admit. When you trash-talk a game without playing it, it gives me reason to be pretty mad.
And Evangelion had mystery because if they shoved everything in your face at the beginning, it'd...suck.
Cowboy Bebop is about american as anime can get. The music's ours, the style is ours, the story is ours, Only difference is that its made by Japanese folk. I mean, jeez, the American voice acting is better than the Japanese!
Love Hina...still haven't seen the anime, but I've got a few of the mangas because their cheaper. Meh= teh poor.

Well it's quite ridiculous for someone to trash talk a game without playing it.. naturally, that's why I did it, becuase I couldn't say anything else!
Love Hina is the archetypal style of serialized romance/comedy anime that I really really don't like, personally.
things started happening and i was like AAAAHHH!!!! in my head, like some schoolgirl at a concert.
i've seen almost everything mentioned here, and the 20 or so minutes in kill bill just prawnt everything XD
maybe because i'm a tarantinophile.
I forgot to mention... anyone here seen Now And Then, Here And There? I've been meaning to buy it for months now. That right there is an excellent anime.
Gunslinger Girl has the potential to be a series I could really enjoy... except for one fact... See they have this very believable universe, some cool music and a very mild colour palette.. that's all good, except they brainwash like 8 year old girls for military use...
In the first episode the lead girl gets shot in the arm, and she's like 8... I don't care whether she's brain washed or not... she's 8 years old.. she should be crying her head off... 'Trained since birth' doesn't cut the mustard with me on this one...
I don't care what the genre is, as long as you produce a believable universe for that genre and a good story I will watch and thoroughly enjoy it... <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Ah. Don't worry about that. Most of her body is artificial. And before you go "GiTSAC ripoff!!!", it's just physical augmentations.
You know, covering explanations of why little girls can take bullet wounds without flinching, and how exactly they're so deadly.

England gets none of the good stuff. One or two comic stores refuse to stock tokyopop manga because there was apparently a bit of a lisencing fiasco. Also, nowhere stocks Viz manga at all, it's illegal to distribute in England. Most shops are afraid to stock any DVDs other than Region 2, but those that do stock Region 1, etc, you can expect to pay £25-£30 or so per DVD.
But, there is salvation. <a href='http://www.yesasia.com/' target='_blank'>yesasia.com</a>. Imports!

Esuna.
Don't hold out for any Viz stuff outside of the US. They are a bunch of selfish ****. The long and the short of it is, they are not even willing to give licenses out to other countries and at the same time wag the American flag around. As I said, the long and the short...
I was pegging my hopes on Region 4 Ranma 1/2, but it will never happen as long as Viz holds the license... Best bet is importing.

Want to know the best thing about Viz? They release a magazine worldwide which is basically all about their products (I forget the name), this is distributed everywhere, but the little thing is, you can't order ANYTHING. I swear, they're just sadistic.

Well, back to my duties as an Anime Dealer, an Addict is currently whimpering "Naruto... Naruto..."
Rama, Fine, Im coming...
Freakin Anime Fiends...
/me is off for his next fix
I just realised that the forbidden planet here <b>does</b> have viz comics... lots of them =D
It's got like the whole ranma manga series amongst thousands of other things.
- Shinkon Gattai Godannar
- Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki
The very first episode alone of RahXephon was simply dripping with similarites, I knew many friends who watched it straight away and told me "This is just ripping Evangelion off, of course that chick is Rei Ayanami and that guy is Shinji Ikari!"
I don't think you gave it enough chance before you made your opinions on it.
Before I go, you posted this on a previous page

I watch my anime in a format called fansubs. Basically a fansub group takes an episode, adds subtitles too it and releases it on the internet. It is a very very very grey legal area. The anime companies tolerate it mainly because it generates quite a bit of interest in series before they are released on DVD.
I wholeheartedly support the fansub effort as a whole, but the general vibe from the NS.org admin team is that they deem it was warez. So no posting of links, etc. This includes pming me...
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->...However, there were some that I really don't like, either do to style or just generally bad voice acting or other flaws. One of my greatest hates in the world is dubbed anime. I am a purist when it comes to the way a show airs. I want original voices, original signs and a booklet that gives some linear notes so I know what japanese references are in an episode. Hearing my favourite shows in japanese is pretty much a kick in the nuts to what the series stood for IMHO.
