When mainstream media realises and latches onto the correlation between clans and social sports teams, I'll be happy.

Its much more likely that the ignorant masses will associate Clans with.. well... clans...

Hmm, about 4 hours a day on weekdays (4x5=20) + about 12 total for the weekend gives a grand total of 32 hours. I'm spending approximately 20% of my time on the computer, OMG!

/me feels the need to start a seperate post about this "pressing" issue.

Although tbh what else is there to do? TV? Sure, IF there's something good on. Go out and play sports? Well let's just assume we all have sportsophobia. Go round a friend's house? Why when you can play against them on NS without leaving the room.

So... when I think about it not ALL of this 20% is playing... some of it is socialising (no, I do not consider THIS socialising since I don't really know any of you).

Yes, I am blatently an addict.

Well. Let me think about my time on the computer.

Ummm...about 30-40% of my time. M/W/F I usually spend about 9 hours a day. T/Th, I spend about 10-11 hours a day.
That's a lot of freaking time on the computer.

Ironically, since i've started going to college i've lost 10-15 pounds and am in better shape then ever. Despite spending 30-40% of my time on the computer. COOOL.

So yeah, that's why my post count went from like 600 Before college to 1600+ in college.

Plus I got realllly good with a CStrike Riot Shield.

Try about 60 hours of NS nonstop. Then try comming in your last game. Don't forget to drink some beer while playing. Oh yeah, LANs are fun.

@topic: I think I'm addicted. Seriously, I don't do anything else. I have only social contacts based on my classmates. I don't have a girlfriend. I have simply nothing else. Addicting, yes, but fun!!!

"Game entertainment is not a classic media experience. It has a potency that offers a new psychological experience," Kline said, adding he could imagine violent experiences in games to spill over in real life.

Other scientists, who like Chee have carried out scientific surveys, said heavy games players were in fact sociable and not the pathological loners they are often made out to be.

Sociology Professor Holin Lin at National Taiwan University discovered many players were members of an online 'clan' to try to become more successful against opponents in the game. She also found many had relationships with clan members in real life.

I like the way it says "Other scientists, who like Chee have carried out scientific surveys" thus implyign the ones who have actually done some research and know what they're talking about. Thank god some people are taking this seriously rather than just the "omg some kid blew away some other kids and he played mario lets ban all computer games" attitude we've had to put up with for too long.
And yes I beleive myself to be sociable, I work in a retial environment (posh expression for crappy supermarket job) so I'm constantly surrounded by colleagues and customers, I have friends who I go out with to my local where I am well known by the regulars and bar staff.
Gone are the days of the secluded geek teenager stuck in his mums basement or the anti-social depressive goth pyscho who everyone thinks is going to flip out one day. We are just like everyone else, I mean what the hell, the guy organising a LAN I'm going to is a 35 year old plumber.
Time for society to get a grasp and reality and see what gamers really are instead of sticking with the stereotypes.

Well, when my girlfriend is around...well, I turn the computer on to check my mail. that's it.

but I only get to see her like once or twice a month.

3-4 hours a week for the gym?

What's a gym?

Is that some sort of new freeware game?

I remember reading a bit in penny arcade where they said they were hard-core into PSO and had even spent 28 hours straight playing it.
I managed to play it for something like 3-5 days straight before finally losing consciousness in the middle of a conversation ^^;

yeah well... when your friend gives you a surprised look when you come out of your room after a 3-5 day PSO binge + 1-2 days sleep recovery saying something like "I thought you went back home for the week?" you tend to cut down on your gaming hours afterwards

PSO's more the exception than the rule... I usually get out and about each day while doing gaming stuff too but I'd lose whole weeks to Phantasy Star Online ^^;

Let's see.... I play about 2 hours a day. That's only about 14 hours....per week... So not to bad. Some days I might do 3 or 4. Just depends on if I had a stressful day. NS is a great stress relief for the most part.

I like to play ns or work out when I am stressed. If I could, I would play it more. Between G/F, School, Homework, Friends, Family, JOB, and seks.............. ns only gets about 14 hours.

Ok, let's see for me. While I don't play any games anymore, I'm still on the net to chat, role-play and so on... MUCH!

Ok, every day, I'm on the computer for at least 8, usually 10-11 hours. And that's every day, no exception. That means... I spend about 70 hours a week on my compy (almost 3 days a week non-stop). And yes, I need a life... But my life is on the net!

I used to RP quite a bit. I was goign to be an english major at the time and It hought It was fascinating to go to chatrooms with experienced rpers and act out in a different character. If you surround yourself with good writers and creative people it is as though your writing a new chapter almost every day. Very cool experience and it gives you an insight on ideas for new characters, new topics for books, new plot ideas, new vocabulary....a writers dream.

Let me see here:

Su/M/T/W/R: about 6 hrs a day average, makes it 30 hours a week

F/Sa: I don't get on the computer on the weekends unless im REALLY bored (Im usually drunk before I get REALLY bored, so it doesn't happen much)

Of course, some days are more, and some days are less (this actually refers to time spent playing games, not total time on computer, I don't count that becuase I HAVE to be on the computer alot, darn ArcGIS program!)

Hmm maybe that's because 2 hours is spent getting everyone actually focused on the game... another two hours is usually spent whining at the GM, throw in half an hour for a Mountain Dew / Snack run...

T3 in a 6000+ campus. Almost everything to download is blocked (bandwidth caps on everything, 50kbs/s max...unless it's microsoft or something). Kazaa and other p2p are blocked too (don't use them anyway). Compare that to the 300kbs/s+ road runner at home, and a very low ping, and I'm infuriated.

From 4-11pm it's not worth being on the computer besides AIM or Microsoft messanger (or whatever it is).

They could open bandwidth like it was last year, but noooooo "We want to save money on bandwidth"....buncha jerk offs. There reason for limiting it: people were downloading to much of KaZaa last year...so they blocked it...I'd like to know why they blocked everything else too...

(20-80 hours during the summer on the comp (that'd be at home, not here))
