Signs of release?

Don't flame me! evidence!
I think we're getting close to NS' release. Think about the information that was released: We know the alien names, which indicates that manual is either being activly worked on or complete. We know the final peice of the tech tree for both races (lvl5/Hvy Armor). The changelog has been released, with numerous mentions of 'completed' or 'near completed' features. Top it off with news on NS downloads (STeAM, plenty of mirrors <- Flayra) and I'd say we're looking at one or two more RCs. I've personally been predicting a release of RC7. Lets see if I'm right!

And please, no flames about it'll be done when its done. I know that. I'm just saying that we appear very close (1-1 1/2 weeks) to the release of NS.

At this point, speculation is unavoidable and shouldn't result in flames, but instead curiosity. He did some interesting detective work there...

and note the chagnelog is somethihng we asked for and they gave, changes go into every time they playtest

i think the steam is a big hint that its going to happen, but 2 weeks... eh.. i think they're ganna be cruel and wait till the very last day of summer sept. 22nd

*edit* wow i have a lot of spelling errors.. but ill save my grammer for school, just type fast and get it over with for everything else

(note they also planned and have garenteed [i think] a summer release)

so.. 2-3 weeks would be my guess

Hey, that gives me something to play over the LAN in the new computer lab. 1.8 P4s, good systems especially for HL.

MonsE, you... gah. Teasing us like this. NS is within our reach and you're dangling it at us.

Think of me as the Ad Agency that did those Infinity car commercials when they were about to unveil it. They showed cliffside streets. Then winding forest roads. Then wide open Autobahns.

    Everything but the car...

hmm I agree somewhat but just to put things in perspective, INF UT upgraded its fileservers because "release was iminent" 6 months ago

Heh, well, ive been playing some UT lately so i can wait a few more weeks, and as for the steam part... well i sure do hope thats not Valve's plan to make us pay for mods also...

    Makes you wonder?

i think they'd make you pay for the mod becuz, its their system your playing off of, yes the mods free, but remember your still palying through steam, if you wanan install half lfie on the computer and download the mod thats another, but stema is still in a beta version so its free

Yeah, i know steam will cost money, but i meant, what i they suddenly tried to corner the mod market by not letting anyone release unless they use steam?

Not very likely, and not much to do about NS but it makes time go by faster if you have an interesting discussion eh?

My prediction is that Valve, once it releases retail steam, will try and set their mod release restrictions and have mod developers only be able to use Steam as a forms of release. However unlikely this may sound, im a pretty strange person, so what the heck

i dont think ns will be released til january maybe...why? because now that school is starting the younger members, playtesters, and dev team will be busy with school, and everyone will lose motivation. then, flay will want to playtest it to death because he is afraid a shotty first release will scar the mod forever. november will roll around, and flay will decide a xmas release is a good idea. everyone will put off work til the last minute. then xmas break comes, and they find out there is more work to be done than they had anticipated, and they will finish it up around early january

seriously though, if they DO (and i know they WILL; eventually) make us pay for it i'll just say "F' It!" and goto a NORMAL server on NORMAL half-life playing with the NORMAL stuff (eg: needed updates and such from other sites, or the main site)

and also if steam bites butt (like a level 1 biting a marine. ) in the ping department OR they have really crappy servers, im goin with the normal dedicated NS server.

PS: if they make all the HL games/mods steam only and you have to pay ill be rightly ###### and so will everyone else... lawsuits left right and center and on faster than a level 4's "blink" ability!!!

Valve owes it's left nut to mods. Where would half-life be w/o mods? Sure, it's a great game, but it wouldn't be where it is today. Valve can't stop mods from being released, as they can be downloaded for free. If they try to patch HL so you can only use steam, the rebellion would be obscene. No, game devs these days want to encourage mods, not restrict them. Because players still need to purchase the engine base before they can play the mod.

Wait, it costs money for the NS team to get Steam support? If that's true - you guys rock for keeping it a free MOD and still paying money to make it yourselves.

well... people are paying (will be) to use steam, becuz they want to play ns (some of them at least) so, valve will want ns on steam, now odds are they wont want to loose ns support on steam, so they'll pay ns to have them on steam, not have ns pay valve so valve gets more buisness

but that idea came from someone's idea of "ns has to pay to have steam support"

I'd love to know what kind of legal ground those lawsuit could possibly be filed on. I suppose you've never read your EULA (End User Liscensing Agreement), which you agreed to abide by when you installed HL?

Anyways, Steam doesn't have much use now... but in a few years when just about everybody has broadband access at speeds higher than what's going around now, Steam will be incredibly useful.

Anyways... what was this topic supposed to be about?
