My Idea On How Nancy Could Be Restored.

But I know nothing about mapping...
Couldn't we just have someone send the ns_nancy.bsp from 1.04 to the mapmakers, and they could just tweak it to work in 2.0? There has to be someone who still has it on their hard drive... And I really have no knowledge of mapping whatsoever, so this probably won't work

Map editing is done with rmf files (Rich Map Format, hence rmf) which stores all brushes and entities exactly. Although the bsp may be about 1000 kb or so, the rmf is often much larger.
There is no way to decompile a map from a bsp accurately because of all the info that is thrown out in the compile process.
Lose the rmf, and you've essentially lost any chance of tweaking the map. Period.
The guys in the Nancy Remake team (the biggest topic here) are working from a shoddy decompile and their wits. Go take a look, they are pretty close to release as it is.

Shush, don't apologise. He may try another joke if he has sympathy on his side
Read: Information == FUBAR == No chance in hell of recovery
Head crash = your HDD's head (the reading laser type bit) hits the magnetic disc. When you have a disc spinning at anywhere upwards of 5200rpm, probably 7200rpm
Some quick maths gives that thats about or 2880m/minute for the outside edge, or ~173km/h. (round circumfrence to 0.4m)
say the disc is about 200grams, p=mv, momentum is about 9.6kgm^-s. Really rough maths, but... That's an incredable amount, if the head hits that disc.. boom. No more disc.
And if anyone knows a way to get into ur encrypted user folder TELL MEH DAMN IT!!! I have a HD sittin in my case right now tht has alot of stuff in it that I can't get too!! >_<
I'm not an expert at how the CSG compiler works, you'll probally have to ask XP-Cagey about this but I think that the collision hulls are calculated after the hull tesselation and discardation, so in theory you could run a hacked CSG and read the geometry data, then recalculate the collision hulls with the 2.0 specs and have the map work, but if the collision hulls are worked BEFORE the geometry optimization, then it's impossible without the map file....
But wait, can't you just reclaim the ownership of any file or folder to the admin account?
I had to reinstall WinXP durring the summer and had some problems afterwards, since I wanted to move all the Netscape email files from the previous install's user profile to the new one generated by the reinstall. I could not access the Documents and Settings folders of the profiles created prior to the reinstall, but by forcing the ownership of the folders to my new account, I was able to view and use them again.
So, just plug the HD to your computer, boot, and open up explorer. Then go to the root of the HD and right click. Then click on "security" and find the part where you can change the ownership of the root dir. Now that you have repossessed it, all the subdirectories of the root will also be yours. If not, change them all individually.
You can try this before plugging the HD in by right-clicking any folder and looking at the security settings. If the 'security' tab cannot be seen in the properties, it's time to tweak Windows' settings so that 'simple file sharing' is disabled.
But, the problem is, NANCY had problems with the onos going around the map and getting stuck. So, it STILL needed to be fixed.
In short, forget it and pray that the Nancy remake team does the job.
and also I have the "Original installation file of ns 1.04" It's on a cd I named "ns_install_v1" along with ns_install_v20.exe so if something screwsup and have to reformat my HD I have the originals to which ns I wanna play I have about 7 NS cd's I made full of maps original installation files n more.
Had to get it outa my system....
