Something That Has Bothered Me For A While Now

<div class="IPBDescription">So im going to get it off my chest</div> r_drawviewmodel 0.

Im sure most of you know what this does. Honestly, I have it in every autoexec.cfg for every Half Life Mod I play. And I play quite a few. And I still cant understand why NS wont allow it.

You can call it a hack or exploit, but I dont see it that way at all. Every player has access to it if need be under normal conditions. Its simply a cosmetic thing... some people like to see their muzzle flash when they fire. Good for them. I dont.

Really, the Marine guns dont bother me. Theyre down at the bottom of the screen, and they really dont get in the way. They dont really move, best of all.

But aliens on the other hand... in particular, Skulks. Why must I see the Skulks teeth? Are his eyes in the middle of his throat? No, theyre clearly visible on his noggin. So why cant I just have a small model at the bottom of the screen where his mouth is, like the Gorge?

Anyway, thats my little rant for the day.

The blocking effect of skulk teeths are there to make it harder to bite people, believe it or not. Same with the muzzle flash, it is intended to somewhat limit your view. These are balancing factors, Both have been tweaked since earlier versions. That is the reason r_drawviewvmodel is disabled, because they use the models as a way of balancing the game

Also, the hud is part of it so with drawviewmodel set to 0 you would not have access to the Marine minimap or Motion Tracking, or Aliens hivesight.

because an exploit is somthing that gives a player an advantage over another. Having the skulk teeth is req to keep skulks from pwning too much

Never really thought of it that way weggy. But, it is part of the atmosphere of the game. Sure some people don't care about atmosphere, but some are drawn to this game because of it. Nonetheless, atmospheric value is not something that should be forced on a player.

But there is one problem. If one person uses it, then other will be compelled to do so, so as not to give the other player the advantage. In a pyramid scheme kinda way, this would lead to no one using the weapon models that the ns team worked hard to design.

If its a cheat to take that off, then whats from stopping me or anyone else from downloading or making a "model" which does the same thing, take away or eliminate the flash or make it very small.

In short, it's to prevent people from *easily* exploiting, citing it as a 'default variable', and thereby allowed. Downloading a model replacement to work around it is blatantly cheating, and can be prevented on servers with consistency-checking on.

In short, it eliminates confusion on this aspect as to what is cheating and what is not. And as noted, this has been discussed many times, especially when that particular variable was just being locked off.
