Special vis options for ns

Why isn't it vising for me
Every time I try to VIS a map for NS it gives the following error:

*****ERROR*****
LoadPortals: not a portal file

I was wondering if anyone else has had this error and what they did to overcome it. If this is a general Worldcraft error then I apologise and will go elsewhere.

I'm using the zhlt csg and bsp tools (hlcsg and hlbsp). There doesn't seem to be ones for VIS and RADing though.

oh, i know what you have done... you took the tools that are with the NSTR? chek the offizial Homepage og zhlt and download the latest build, i dont know the url but i think google will help.... also, to complie download HLCC (ok, its not the only one but i like it) its a tool that you can easy complie your maps with it....

The versions that came with the NSTR should work perfectly fine... but only if vis and rad are up to date zoner versions as well. Perhaps you are using the "vis" and "qrad" that came with HL, yet are using the updated hlcsg and hlbsp? If that's the case, you will definitely want to get a hold of the latest versions here, as Asraniel said. Basically, while only up to date versions of csg and bsp are required for some of the features in NS, you should be running up to date (and definitely ZHLT) versions of vis and rad as well.

That said, I'm not familiar with this error. It can't hurt to update your tools though.

Also, after having used practically every compiling front end out there, I'd highly recommend Batch Compiler. HLCC would be my second choice, but it's horridly out of date. At least last I checked.

Cheers for the help. Yeah. I was using the orginial rad and vis tools which came with halflife as hlrad.exe and hlvis.exe weren't distributed witht the NSTR. Ah well, only a couple of days frustration about having r_speeds at 700 in a cudic room, with no detail, whilst looking at the rest of the level through a wall .

I found this out quickly, always use zoners. When I came to my first weird map error the message was so vauge, so just as "What ever" I got ZHLT, it told me exactly what brush was causing the problem, turns out it was one i thought i'd deleted.

You can update version 2.6.3 of ZHLT to custom build 1.6.1, available here. Overwrite the existing ZHLT files with it.
It contains all modifications from the NS versions of csg and bsp, plus some extra stuff.
