There isn't a Steam NS installer yet, apparently it's being worked on for NS 2.1.
As it stands, NS is perfectly playable on WON still, and as far as i know, will be until Steam is working and has less bugs etc. You've still got some time on WON, from all that i know.
I figure NS servers will be entirely switched to Steam when it becomes required.
Probably when WON goes down. There's a lot of people like me who are waiting for the last possible moment to switch, so that we don't have to experience any bugs.

I do not understand why people refuse to switch to steam. It fixes alot of engine issues and is alot more stable. Steam also fixes a hitscan bug caused by the latest HLDS. because it's buggy, unstable, doesn't work on a lot of peoples computers where won did, ingame font is ugly, download system is heavily broadband biased, oh yeah its buggy too, makes customisation very difficult.
2.1 will probably see a lot of people switching to Steam and I suggest everyone do the same. Assuming, of course, that 2.1 won't be Steam-only, which is still a possibility. No idea if Steam's regular distribution will be an option with 2.1 but I'm pretty sure you'll be able to use a standard installer.
As soon as the bugs are ironed out (screwed up fonts on the ingame menus) and 2.1 is released, I'm definitely switching. Steam is simply amazing when it works the way it's intended: Finding the servers your buddies play on is a snap, when you've got a free minute you can message some of your other buddies to join in the fun, and if the aliens are hiding behind DCs in a vent after the last hive went down you can play checkers.

I doubt WON will be shut down for a long time anyhow. I don't see them shutting it down until after HL2 is released, which will have a Steam installer on the disk. By then Steam will be even more stable then it is now. Even if HL2 comes out during the holidays, and not April, I would guess they will keep WON up for 4 to 6 months after that to give people time to buy HL2 and get Steam up and running on their systems. So figure WON will be around until mid to late next year. What Valve needs to do is make a Steam installer CD available at Best Buy and the like for free, or under $5 or so, just to help people who don't have broadband and can't download all the files they may need or want.

It will be no more, developing a mod strictly for WON would be suicide since when Steam is fully operational it would become obsolete.
When it comes down to it though, if you're not willing or able to convert over to Steam, you won't be playing Half-Life or it's mods in the future. Simple as that.

I try steam over 10 times. it just locked up my system....

The WON system is being shut down. It will be no more, developing a mod strictly for WON would be suicide since when Steam is fully operational it would become obsolete.
When it comes down to it though, if you're not willing or able to convert over to Steam, you won't be playing Half-Life or it's mods in the future. Simple as that.
The offical deal is that once Steam works consistantly (ie most people can simply install it and it will work) won will die
So my suggestion is to get a compleat fresh install of steam and then head over to the steam forums to get it to work
