North Hollywood, I listen to Trance and whatnot Liquid when no one's here, but I never hit the Clubs. Paranoia would love this topic, and he wants to take me sometime. NS Rave?

Can someone enlighten me as to what the point is of a rave? Everything I've seen / heard of them makes them look like a physical manifestation of the reason why goth people dress the way they do.

    Just curious.

Then again, I guess is repetative electronic drums is your thang... meh.. it's a free country I guess.

What the hell is the point of a rave?

Honestly, I don't know a damn thing about them, except they play repetative electronic music.

After discussing this with a good friend of mine who is a true goth, I have this quote directly from him to present:

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->a rave is simply a large gathering of people, especially teenagers where techno (and the occasional EBM) is played.  They are a big place for party drugs and that's pretty much the point of them.  The reason Goths dress the way they do, however dates back to the late '70s when the subculture first developed.  The music was a darker, less political evolution from punk and the fashion was a direct reaction on the colorful mainstream disco fashion.  Where punk was a revolution, Goth was an evolution.  Where disco was colorful and bright, Goth was dark and decadent.

In short, the purpose of a rave (social gathering with intent to use drugs) and Gothic fashion (an escape from the happy colorfulness of disco), have nothing to do with one another<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I can honestly say I agree with him, as he has a lot of free time to determine the meanings and purpose of things, as well as play a good game of Frozen Throne. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

Question being, why limit it to just a hallowe'en night thing? We seem to have quite a few in the area (Burbank to be specific, here)... possibly enough to take over a smaller venue. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Additionally, quite a bit of the goth subculture has split away from the music (personally though I enjoy Sisters of Mercy, I can't freaking STAND Bauhaus for more than a few minutes) taking on a life of its own. At least in my mind, bringing in those with a taste for the more refined styles that contemporary culture simply has no place for. Can you remember the last time you'd seen someone walking down the street, wearing a fine waistcoat and brocade? The last time you'd seen someone wearing a cape or cloak, without it being 'dress-up'? There's more to Gothic dress than simple black, though most neo-goths (the majority of those sporting shock-rock t-shirts, vinyl skirts, white facepaint and dyed hair) tend to pigeonhole it as 'Victorian Gothic'.

Personally I'd prefer to go out for an evening with a silver-capped walking stick than a handful of fake blood capsules. There's more than one way to be disturbing, and the more subtle methods leave a far-lasting impression.

There's what, a whole 12 people that think like that? I think it'd be pretty cool to do the 'victorian goth', and certainly different.

I'm referring to the visually and emotionally offensive people who put 4 pounds of white face makeup on each morning, slide into the same pair of fishnet pants they've been wearing for 4 months now, and strap a leash on themselves and a couple bondage bracelets, or hang out in AIM chatrooms saying '5,000 yr old M vampire seeks soul mate, must be a fire or earth'. And then call it self expression :/ Your self expression ends where my right to not be offended by your mere presence begins.

Yea, 'goths' like that tend to be a problem as they bring a bad name to normal goths, as well as start the ideas of goths listening to Manson and Cradle of Filth and Slipknot and all sorts of other rocl-based musicians.

True goth music is more brooding and such, groups like The Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, and Bella Morte to name a few. Pretty cool stuff actually, glad my friend got me into it all.

If I had the material...i'd make a nice giant cloak.

    Raves are about the music!

Goths just happen to show up @ raves so they can (bad joke) suck the happiness out of everyone.

Yeah, I hate the goth's... There's tons of them at my school and they clearly do that for attention, be trendy, and be cool.

while I have the skin color a goth strives for (See that whitebackground on 404 errors? my skin is slightly darker then that.) I am by no means a goth. I like some of the subculture of Gothica but some of it is...creepy.

actually, I like my pale skincolor. It helps that i'm Swedish/Scottish by family ancestry.

Still, Goths are freaky, rave's are cool, blood rave's = vampire killing and vampires = coolest villians.

Hahah Sweedes. I have a Sweed friend and he wears all black, but it's mainly because he's practically albino: White skin, blonde hair... we've never seen him wear anything but pants. We suspect he has grotesquely deformed legs or something <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

We had lightsticks for something at school. I broke open about 30 of them and made this huge goopy pile. Stunk like hell. I have NEVER EVER seen a goth at a rave.

    Anyways,

Yes Dr.D, I probably am going to hit up Monster Massive with a couple of my buddies. We'll probably be the best stringers and stickers at the party.

Maybe we can meet up Dr.D. I'll give you a lightshow if you are one of those stupid ****tard E-tards. If not, all the better <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
