Irc room has gone to hell...

<div class="IPBDescription">Well it has!</div>At the moment there are no ops present (Two are here but asleep) and the room is chaos. We have a load of idiots and permament arguing, at the moment there is no community and it's as bad as being in the counter strike channel.

I don't think there is any soultion for what the room is like when no ops are around but its not worthwhile being there when they aren't!

..It wasn't even CLOSE to CS. Don't Exaggerate so much.

I'm going to have to agree with Commando. Earlier today, the channel degraded into a slagging match involving swearing and racist remarks - things are just going to pot.

Edit: For those that're interested, here's the log of what happened today: <a href="http://www.dwish.net/stuff/nslog.txt" target="_blank">http://www.dwish.net/stuff/nslog.txt</a>

    Edit2: Thanks for the welcome, JediYoshi <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Yes, you're are really exaggerating. It's all a matter of typing really fast.

Edit: Welcome to the forums DeathWish.

Erm, I do not think it's getting as bad as the CS channel, and I don't think the forums are the place to go with this but obviously it's a last resort before piele wandered online.

But onto the point, it was getting pretty bad in there, I'm not going to mention any names for I do not want to start a flame war. *shrugs* I think something needs to be done about this, and guys, please don't bring whatever fight you were having in the chan onto the forums.

    I'm not sure what's worse:

The fact that people sit around and have those conversations or that I just read about half of that log.

This kind of thing is inevitable, and there's only so much that we, as ops, can really do.  Comprox was trying to get a bot set up before he left on vacation.  We'll see how tht goes when he gets back.

And if there are ops in the room, yell !op if someone is doing stuff like that (I didn't read the log, so I don't know what stuff that stuff is), and we shall come with our smiting rods.

Just to be a little more clear on the !op feature, 90% of the time you use it the ops are angry when they come.  One time there was an idiot, doing something stupid, and I called !op to get him kicked.  Sure enough an op, not gonna say the name here, came to our 'aid.'  After he got over the whole 'wtf did you use the !op feature for' he then kicked me becuase "I did not tell him why I used it" when in fact not only I, but 2 others, were saying 'kick someguy for whatever!!' and he kicks me.  Ever since then im not using !op feature again.

But I have to agree, whatever intelligent coverstations we had, or any fun converstation we had, are just about gone.  I rarly talk in #ns anymore and I have everyone I want to talk to in other channels.  I have been thinking about withdrawing from #ns, like cyanide did.

Of course we're angry when the !op call goes off.  We're usually doing something else at the time, and that something else is usually playing games.  If there's a good reason, we take out our agression on the person violating the rules.  If there isn't a good reason, we take out our agression on the person who said !op.

I don't know the specifics of what happened, Steve, but if you feel there was a good reason for the call and an op still kicked you, you should bring it up with Comprox or myself and the op in question.

It's not really bad usually. Though that wasn't the first time I had to put Jedisar on /ignore. After that I wandered off for a bit of MoonBase Commander, damn fun.

That was scary and I'm glad I didn't bother to read longer than the first quarter of the log.

Regarding op's being mad when someone uses the !op call.. Yesterday, Flayra was hanging out with us for most of the day in IRC, but was having hostmask troubles and couldn't get authed. Anyway, because of this he couldn't dish out justice by himself, so he had to use the !op call.
All of a sudden out of nowhere I get an extremely loud scream in my headphones (that's the .wav that play's when an op is called, at least for me, it is the Firearms Warcry)
I click on the #ns IRC window and look at what happened, and all I see for about 20 seconds is <span style='color:red'><Flayra|Workin> !op</span>. Well, I was a hair of reason away from !k ing Flay from the IRC channel, but then I noticed what had been going on, and Fam took care of it..
So remember, if you're going to use the IRC !op call.. For Greedo's sake put the reason after the call!

    Good advice, Boz...

<b>NOTE TO ALL!:  If you're going to use the !op command, use it like this:
    "!op  <reason I need an op!>"</b>

That way the ops that show up can see quickly why they were called.
