Bast is a good map. I learnt it's corridors and locations a long time ago but a fool proof strategy eludes me still. It's a map where you can almost always turn the game round with a good counter attack and I like the interaction that has been built in. By that initially I mean the weld point, the lifts, the gorge openable weld point and the shoot-outable lights. Recently though bast surprised me and I am stil not sure if I was halucinating We were in Steam Generation, trying to push forward into feed initially but then trying not to be pushed back into Atmos - you know how it goes. Bast is one of my favorite maps also. not sure what else to say, it's real nicely done. It has a lot of little details that make it good. One thing I like, that really bright light coming down into atmospheric. The sprites in there and the way it's done make it look alot like sunlight in there. nice nice nice

i always thought it was a ship docked to a mining station, because its the best way to explain the airlocks on teh engineroom/obs bridge, into teh rest of the map.
but then again, there are an awful lot of other ways between the two areas, making this ship not very airtight...
maybe those vents were added for gameplay value because a secluded area would be too easy to hold!

How come nobody is willing to believe that a spacecraft would have a tram tunnel? It's a big ship. The tram tunnel is clearly used to get between significant areas of the ship.
There's also such a thing as the suspension of disbelief. If it doesn't seem scientifically sound as a spacecraft, just forget it and have fun.
im pretty shure Bast is a spacecraft i rember reading somewhere some thing about it being a mining-ship, also it has alot of "nos_" textures in it now guess what nos is short for then think what it was and how big it was
I'm quite sure if anyone of you woke up inside a starship in the future, but had no knowledge of how you got there (Like in NS, just appeared in there) I doubt you could tell if it was a starship OR a planetbase.

What you guys have to bear in mind is that the UCC Bast is a mining ship. That's why it has an onboard refinery and other such trappings of a mining installation.
I don't agree that having Water Treatment and Atmospheric Processing facilities on a map would make it more likely to be a ground-based installation though. I mean, the people on a spacecraft need something to breathe, don't they? The same goes for Feedwater, there are plenty of uses for water on a spacecraft - hydraulics, coolant, drinking water, and so on.
The Bast is obviously meant to be a large ship, hence the tram tunnel for easier access to different parts of the ship.
I don't think it's a texture problem at all, that some people don't think it's a spacecraft. The texturing in the map has always conveyed to me the impression of a spacecraft, especially in Refinery and Main Aft Junction.

 EXACTLY.

Yes, I get so upset when my server looses some people when we go to bast. Morons just don't understand the beauty of it.
Bast is No. 16 on NS World with an 89% Rating. To hold that position with so many people voting speaks for itself it is the highest rated Official NS Map.
Hera is No. 19 I think.
Oh and wow that was good "old english".
it's a matter of opinion. Calling people such as myself morons and idiots doesn't make our opinion any less credible. The reason that bast didn't quickly become my favourite map was the textures. It used photo-textures that stuck out and would distract my feel for the game. The readyroom for example has a mix of textures on the walls in the join areas that just look ugly to me. It just seemed like there was an overflow of detail in a jumble of textures that in some cases should not be put together. If you don't understand what i mean then that's probably why you like bast and i find it visually distracting.
TBH saying Bast is the best map is irrelevant to the argument. Insane probably explained the best reason anyone could for bast being an official map. More besides the point, its if the map looks nice while having a fully playable layout and fitting the theme. Some people have said it only fits 2/3 critera, surely thats enough to make it an NS Map. More importantly and official map. Don't knock it, unless your map gets made official by Flayra and the NS Devs.

You do have to be mapper however to understand that sometimes mapping (especially for this mod) is like trying to squeeze blood from a stone... I prefer to judge maps based on the skill required to make it, rather than it's playability.
I often see beautiful, yet simplistic maps that don't really inspire anything in me...

Seriously, the bast rr is great. In my mind, only hera and lost's rr is better. You seriously dont find that circle formation beautiful? (the spiral down to one team, stay on level for the other, and go up ladder for obs) It actually looks like he put thought into its placement, unlike most of the other ones, where its just a large doorway.
