Are you talking about the right click menu? If so, just pick an option and it should go away. I have no idea why or how you can turn anything else off.

As for the map, if you are a marine you are green "tear drop." As an alien you are the a little green icon of what ever breed you are. The easiest way is the move around or spin around and look for the icon that is doing that.

Yeah. If there are multiple green "tear drops" on your map then they are people who are asigned to the same squad as you by the comm, so try to stick close to then. The grey circles are uncapped res towers, the red thhings are aliens (if they look like a foot then they are an alien player, if they look like a splat then they are an alien chamber). The blue tear drops are your team, while the blue things that look like the marine buildings are marine buildings (go near a marine builging, look at it on the map and you will see what i mean).

The messages that pop up on your screen are probably the hints for new playwers, it may be a good idea to keep these up as they save your teammates having to explain everything to you, but there is a way to turn them off (i think you have to go to the customisation menu in the multiplayer menu and unclick the box marked new player tips or something).

If those messages are the other player's health and name then there may be a way to turn this off, i'm not sure.

XShrike has already expalined about the right click menu. You can also click on the centre of this menu to make it go away, as selecting other things always seems to make you do something you don't want to (such as make a noise when trying to hide from aliens, or annoy the comm).

Finally, if the writing is other playersd communicating, then there is no way to turn this off without seriously affecting your gameplay, as NS is a team game and if you don't listen to what your team is doing then it makes the game very hard, as you have to keep avoiding ambushes and WOLs that the rest of your team already know about.

ok, when people type, it shows up in the middle of the screen, blocking my view of what is going on. is there anything i can do about this?

the rmb has nothing to do with seeing whats going on.

the gamma is very low, its hard to see nmes. can i turn this up somehow?

resouce notes will pop in front of my view also. i could care less about this. if im an alien, i can look at the bottom left to see my resource count, can i turn off the resource messages?

there are circles i can see through the walls (i think its my teammates), can i turn this off? or make then more transparent?

and another question, how do i regain life as a marine?

What resolution do you use? (640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, etc..)

Becareful not to keep the map up for extended periods of time, like I do... You will end up taking a lot of hits from it.

1: typing - not really. Most messages shouldn't block the screen for too long. If they are too big however, increase your screen resolution. The option is in the configuration menu.

2: Could you describe these circles more? If it is one big thick blue circle, with arrows indicating a location, thats a waypoint. In other words, get there ASAP - that's where your commander wants you to go. If they are thin blue rings that constantly circle around, those are aliens being revealed to you via motion tracking, a tech the comm researches. They are very good, as they tell you where an alien is whenever it moves. Otherwise, I can't tell what they are without a better description.

3: regaining life as a marine: Ask the comm for a medpack. This is done by clicking the right mouse button. Scroll down 1 space and right one space. This takes you too the 'yell' menu. From here, you can ask the commander for health and ammo.

ok, its the screen resolution, but when i turn it up, it lags then. can i make all the typeing text smaller? or move it over the hud? maby make the hud from pictures to text?

the circles and other stuff blocking my view was hive mind. can i make the text and circles from hive mind and resource notes smaller and more transparent?

thanks for all the help all, i really want to get into this game, but its too hard to see right now

There is some variable to set the time limit for text messages, can't remember what it's called though. But you could set that to something small or 0 and messages go away almost immideately(how do you spell that anyway ). If you use developer 1 the contents of the four last lines of your console or so will be displayed in the upper left corner. So you can more or less move those text messages to the top of the screen that way(but you will get kill/death join/leave messages mixed in there too)

hud_saytext 0
or hud_saytexttime 0

can't remember which one, or if either one is correct. Go look on a HL commands database or something :\.
