Won Being Shut Down?

<div class="IPBDescription">Ive been cut off from the world whats up</div> For the last 4 months I've been locked up in various military training and now I'm reading that WON is going to be shut down soon and steam will be the only way 2 play HL? Is this true / confirmed or merely speculation? Has any 1 at valve actualy stated this as a possibility? And hows the new 2.01 balancing? Playing well?

As far as i know it's true. Be some time near the end of this month/start of next month i think.

Its true.

They will be closing down one slowly, removing parts of it that are obsolete. Eventually the only way will be to play with steam.

wow thats kinda disheartening... I hope they make it mroe mod friendly then! I don't like the steam interface but i guese it doesnt matter 2 much. Still there is alot of good in steam, integrated buddy system and all is cool, can u message people in game ala battle.net? that would be sweet.

Yes, I believe WON is going to be shut down. Don't worry if Steam is too buggy for you now--it's likely they'll fix most bugs before WON dies. It's best to start with Steam now, so you're used to the change when the whiners aren't <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'>

And I swear, no one better come in this thread with some comment like, "Yeah, Steam is great, when it works!"...

I dont have any probs abotu steam. Interface is good, It may crash but every program has its bugs. Have you ever played a game called C&C:Generals? <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'>

hehe ya well i just downloaded it and I'm updating all the mods and crap, damn theres alot to download! Is there any way to play mods other then valve mods on here yet? like oh say... ns?

Yes, there's a workaround.

Put your NS folder in SteamApps/<youre-mail>/Half-Life

Then, copy the fmod.dll from the old HL directory (I think) and place it in the main Steam directory. I think.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Make sure you disable the high detail models if you do though!

(if you dont, then it would look like every rine has a jp!)

if i was you keep won as much as possible until 2.1 comes out for steam. Too many bugs. Even then keep won ns and steam just in case steam gets buggy for 2.1. thats what i do, if i have a problem with ns steam i play on won, theres no need for you to fix all those stuff when once they find the answer they will put it all in a update fix. And since WON aint coming down anytime soon play ns on that. You get more servers with people playing anyways, you only get a handful of nsplayers for steam believe me i know! this is probably the easiest solution to play ns for now but i wonder why people still play on steam when they know they can reinstall halflife and ns 2.0 go figure? <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'>

WON won't be shut down until at least after HL2 is released. that won't be until the holiday season, and possibly even moved back to april 2004
