Ive been looking at DoAc for a few days now and it looks like fun.

It is a MMORPG and here is a screenshot.
<a href='http://images.warcry.com/image.php?id=3820' target='_blank'>http://images.warcry.com/image.php?id=3820</a>

Once I buy the game (for PC) is there a monthly fee? I heard there was somewhere. But i check the site and there was nothing about a fee to play.

Also ONLY if you have played it please tell me about it and what it is like.

Thanks!

Yes, once you buy the game you must also pay a monthly fee ($12-$15 per month depending on how long you sign up for). I played for something like a year I think. It can sometimes be enjoyable, but only for the social aspects.

There are also tremendous problems with class balance and realm population. Sometimes the devs patch the game and one class starts pwning all others, then they nerf (read: make them obscenely weak) the class and another class is king of the hill for awhile.

Pretty much, unless you have an obscene ammount of time, a very very high tolerance for stress and boredom, and are willing to pour alot of time into something for no real reason your going to burn yourself out eventually and never want to touch another MMORPG again. Then again, you can make a pretty penny selling high level characters on Ebay...

I've played a lot of MMORPGs and DAoC was one of the most boring by leagues <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Like has been said already it's got a monthly fee and the only real enjoyment you'll get out of it is the social aspects... pretty much like every other MMORPG. If I had to pick an over-glorified chatroom to have a giggle in for a monthly fee it'd either be Neocron or Ragnarok Online. They're not great but they're a lot better than Dull Ages of Camelot <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

If you're after an actual game you'll enjoy play MMO style wait for them to come up with a 'Roleplay Game' that doesn't involve killing thousands of faceless monsters to push some numbers up.

    <b>edit:</b> Don't mind me... I was just really looking forward to DAoC after a friend hyped it up for me and then when I finally got it and played I couldn't stop thinking how much I was utterly unimpressed and wasn't enjoying it. The point where I rode a horse and it went through the bridge and under the water instead of riding up ON it was the point where I turned it off and got my money back ^^;
Just incase you're wondering, Horses are like trains; you don't steer them, they just run along a set track and you jump off when you reach where you want. You have to buy a ticket to where you want from the guy at the stables and use it there to use one -.-

    SERIOUSLY, bud...!!!

    fomg....

as soon as i made my character, i'd need to ask at least fifty thousand people if they knew the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow.

It is way to boring, I got to level 20 and stoppped playing. The game os far to repetitve and anything stroger
than you are can pwn you horribly, which makes you die to much. Not to mention the crappy battle system and grfx,
Its just not a game that deserves a monthly payment, your better iff waitng for FF11.

    I wonder how many "Knights of Ni" there are <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

While we're on the subject of MMORPGs, what do we all think of UO? *dons flameshield* Played it for a while, got bored. Started again 1/2 a year later, played for longer, got bored again. Haven't felt the need to play it again, and it's been a year, so bye bye UO I guess.

We are the knights who say NI!

    Ni! Ni! NI! Nnnnnni!

The only good things about mmorpgs are:

It feels (and looks like you're in a game), but it's really a big chatroom.

The exploring you can do at the beginning...like towns and a few dungeons (this goes away kind of quick).

Making fun of people/doing stupid stuff.

    <span style='color:gray'>Ragrokk pees on your leg.</span>
    <span style='color:red'>Klandill shouts,'hey, this guy jus p-d on ma leg'</span>
    <span style='color:gray'>Ragrokk grins stupidly.</span>

    ...welcome to Everquest....
And yes, DAoC is pay to play...as is Everquest...and they both suck <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> ....buy NWN if you want epic roleplaying with your friends, or maybe Diablo or something, I've never played it.

I played DAOC for a long time and i had a lot of fun playing it. But the game takes a long time before it is really enjoyable. Anything before Level 40 and you are useless in RvR (Relam vs Realm) Combat. But if you have planety of time to spare and dont mind repeditive gameplay for the first 40 Levels. Id buy it.

I am not much of a fan of 3d games anyways. Thats why I can only skin and not model
and also why I never make any 3d games.
But i do stop at some good 3d FPS or rpg's but not much else.

I played it for a while, then gave up. Was just too repetitive. I found myself agreeing with the numerous statements that it is "nothing more than an IRC channel with graphics". I later learned that while the maximum level attainable is 50, the halfway mark is at 43. And I found reaching level 17 tedious. Wow.

I was always intrigued by mmorpgs but I got bored with them too easily. The last one I played was Earth and Beyond. Not bad but, just like all the others, got dull really easily.

A few I'm looking into and would like try at some point are <a href='http://www.eve-online.com' target='_blank'>EVE</a> and <a href='http://www.istaria.com' target='_blank'>Horizons</a>. Both look pretty different and involved. EVE has been out for a while but is missing a few features and it won't run on my computer (I beta tested it but it ran so choppily I had to quit). And in Horizons you can play as dragons! The only real reason I would want to play it...foolish humans.

    And now, a comic.

And why pay for that when there's <b>the Lunixmonster</b>?
