So, What's Going To Come Out First?

<div class="IPBDescription">Half Life 2 or Doom 3?</div> Sadly enough, the thread heading is all too serious:

<a href='http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=3568878' target='_blank'>http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?t...storyID=3568878</a>

Now to prevent this thread breaking some forum rules, this will not be a place to discuss the HL2 leak. The above article is a news story that simply informs us that due to the leak, HL2 has been delayed until at least April 2004. Seeing as it's reuters doing the reporting I tend to believe them.

Apart from this being terrible news, a question does rise: which, of the two big FPS shooters coming in 2004 (HL 2 and Doom 3), will hit the shelves first? What does everyone think?

I'm kinda of bleh about caring which hits first. I don't think it'll really change the sales numbers on either title as anyone who was going to buy HL2 will still buy HL2 and anyone who wasn't going to buy Doom3 probably still won't =3

For the record though, probably doom 3 first ^^

I think Doom3 will be coming first. The development of Doom is on a further stage than Half-Life 2 i think...

I'll work off official statements here.

Valve is aiming for a holiday release.

Doom has been delayed until 2004.

    bye

Edit: the page didn't load before so I didn't see it. I is wrong, Doom it is.

Jefe said it all. I hate the DOOM games/series, so I'm getting HL2 Mos Def.

I think that there should be a LAW that states.

<i>If a game is delayed for any reason that is deemed unreasonable by the gaming community, for each aditional delay, a member of the marketing, publishing and PR department should be shot dead in the middle of the street.</i>

    Nice law. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Well this is actually sort of good news. Sort of.

It means that all the games which are coming out soon (Max Payne 2, Halo PC, UFO aftermath [oh wait that's already out], Call of Duty) won't conflict with HL2, so now I have a reason to buy call of duty, yay!

It also means the entire gaming comunity now hates the hacker who stole the code, which should assist with his identifying, aprehending, beating, and public execution with a big axe.

But on the other hand, AAAAAARGH!!!! NO HL2 TIL NEXT YEAR!!! NOOOOOO!!!!!!

According to Half-Life 2's publisher, HL2 has been delayed into 2004 from the Holiday release.

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Vivendi Universal Entertainment has canned the Christmas launch of Half Life 2...In a statement today, the games publisher said that Half Life 2, an expected blockbuster, will now contribute to 2004 results. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I'll go with Doom 3 *buys a new video card

Doom 1 and 2 were classics. And so will this part...

But then again, Half-Life ruled the scene, so maybe HL2 is going to rule too...

It's really exciting how 2 classic shooters meet each other. You cant compare doom 2 with Half-life cause of the time difference which they were made in. And these 2 you can.

The delay that we were all expecting (from the end of Sept to 'holiday season') was no big deal, I have Halo for my PC now.

As long as I can get my hands on a copy of Halflife 2 whenever its released, I'll be good. Although I am sad to see the holiday season release crushed by some random expletives on the net, its good to know that Valve is doing its best to release the best product it possibly can, and these recent events and decisions are proof of that.

It is very very unlikely that I will purchase Doom 3, even if it is released sooner, as I am a bigger fan of games with online multiplayer capabilites (like Halo for PC, and of course Half Life), and Doom's lack of multiplayer is very unappealing.

or for each day a game is delayed for any unreasonable reason we get a dollar off at any major retail store or game vendor

Just remember that it was Vivendi that said HL2 was delayed until next year, and not VALVe. A few months ago Vivendi said HL2 would be delayed without VALVe telling them so. So I'll trust Gabe and Doug when they say they are aiming for a holiday release, until they say otherwise themselves.
