Honesty
<div class="IPBDescription">...and why i hate it.</div> Ok, so i was sitting here this morning and dying for a cigarette. I couldn't even afford any since at the moment i'm back to being a student with no job and my student loan hasn't come through. So i decide to call my phone bank in the faint glimmer of hope that i've got some spare money lying around.
I ended up putting the phone down with my jaw wide open. I had £571 sitting in my account. I just couldn't believe it. So i made the mistake of telling my mum. She told me to go clear it with the bank where it came from and it turned out to be my old job. For some reason they left me on the payroll. So i just called them up and made arrangements to give them their money back.
Damn, i hate this, i've just written a cheque sending them all the money back and i'm back to square one.
What makes it worse was when i phoned up they had <b>no idea</b> that they made a mistake. I feel like i want to cry.
Honesty is a [female dog].

If it was the right thing, why does it feel so crappy. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
bet thats painful, especially since it was all a matter of electronic numbers...
nevermind eh, look at it as more good karma for yourself.
and cant you bum a smoke off someone else?
Because if they found the error, which they were bound to do, you'd feel a whole lot worse when they came after you legally <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
You've saved yourself a bunch of trouble.
Depends on how you look at it. I call it "evening the score" with the corporate nazis. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Many times do we have to do sacrifices or 'sacrifices'... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
And many times do we feel crap about them, sadly... But still, it was the right thing to do and as Spooge said, you would feel a lot worse, if they found you and then had a bunch of trouble if they sued you. So cheer up. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I like BM's take on it the best. Smoking's bad, mmmkay? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
This answers your question about suing lolfighter. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
He'd still not be any poorer after he'd paid back the money. The interests that he'd have to pay would be equal to the interests he'd have gotten out of it. Unless he'd already spent it of course.

Bah, you commie, you.
I worked for a charity (Yes, for money). So the "Stickin' it to the man" theory is totally wrong. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

It's not the bank's money, it's the company's.

Same thing happend to me when i quit my paper round, the even kept delivering the papers.
Its their mistake not yours, I would have called and said are you still paying me, if so please stop.
And I prefer to keep my record moderately clean, rather than buy some upgrades for my PC then have it repossessed in order to clear my debt.
Spending it because they gave it to you by accident won't stand up too well in court. Especially if you've spent it and are back to being broke. Bye bye anything they can sell in order to get the cash back.
Honesty is a virtue, one that realy never pays off in any material way...but at least it will never come back to haunt you...lieing, cheating and stealing always does.
...
*is ashamed*
...
but at least I'm honest about lying... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Well your a good guy Esuna hope you find some legitimate way of getting money.
Last thing, when is your birthday Esuna ?
lol Esuna didnt your time in Gc teach you anything.. grab what you can cos lifes a [female dog]
it or asked for it back then I would have withdrawn it.
The way I see it, they had plenty of time to find out about and correvt their
error. If they asked me about it I would have simply said I didn't notice it.
(Would I be checking my bank details if I was currently unemployed....no)
Next time, don't tell your parents/guardians and enjoy any good luck that goes your way.
And it's quite easy to get caught.
But your in Britain (I think) so it might be different.
Trustworthiness - people will trust that you're telling the truth, if you consistantly show that you could have easily got yourself out of something, but admit to it anyway ("Who spilled this milk on the counter?" you could easily blame it on someone else, but you generally get better recognition for admitting you did it).
Believeability - people will be more likely to believe you. There's some people that can lie while being completely suave (which generally shows they're lieing, because they're too cool)...Me on the other hand, I look like I'm lieing when I am telling the truth (I get to f-ing nervous, too f-ing easily). However, I'm rather well known in my family for honesty, and eventually it got that way at school too. It was rather nice, because generally your punishment is decreased or removed.
...but on the other hand I got paid my student loan twice by accident and records only showed it to have been paid once. They still haven't realised the error to this day and I'm sure as heck not gonna tell them now <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
To this day, I still stay awake at night thinking about the sunglasses that got away.
Too bad I didn't have a kid, and was only 14... I told my mom, and then I had to go sit in the bank for 2 hours to get it fixed. Yay. If was only like $27 a month, but that was $27 more dollars a month than I was making.
Indeed.
