Router != Friendly
Alright, so I have this computer from which I run a server. It's Windows XP Professional (nearly stripped of everything to reduce footprint). I use it as a webserver. I have a Linksys router and I have the server's IP address set as the DMZ host. Everyone INSIDE of my LAN can access the server, but everyone outside cannot. I have checked so many things, and I have found nothing wrong with it... I have my ports forwarded correctly, my ISP is leniant about servers. What is going on?

By the way... I noticed that my router allows static routing, in case anyone wonders about that... I'm not that great at networking...

thanks in advance if you post. If you don't help me, then you're a meany

    Don't DMZ it, just forward UDP port 27015. Local clients will connect to the local address, everyone else will connect to the IP address of your router.

    yes, okie doke... thanks... but what about the webserver? I run apache with port 1200 because my ISP blocks port 80... it doesn't work either

    Forward port 1200 through as well. You just can't use port-forwarding to a machine in the "DMZ". Steam supposedly needs UDP 1200, which technically doesn't conflict with running TCP-based HTTP on 1200, but you may want to choose another port number to avoid confusion (or you may be forced to, if your router doesn't allow to forward UDP and TCP separately.

    Thank you lots. Unfortunately, I already have tried forwarding port 1200 for my webserver.... I swear to god, I'm going to end up breaking my computer... I'm really getting mad.... If it wasn't for the sweet sweet release of natural selection, I don't know what I'd do

    Anyway, I'm confused all to hell.... I've forwarded port 1200 to my server, and it worked for a while... then it just stopped...

    I'll try it again anyway...

    if you cant get it working you can change the port that hl is running on.

    Just on the off chance:
    You dont have XP firewall enabled do you?

    You might want to check under Advanced Properties of your network card.

    nope, xp firewall is off.... maybe I'll just get a whole new damn ISP that doesn't block port 80...
