Enjoy guys. These guys have done some fantastic work.
Thanks Squeal and Merkaba!

Is it just me, or is misc_crane begging for a powerloader? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Maps! Get ready to be re-textured! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
way it is. Maybe then *if* it goes official - pretty big if - <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Lots of fresh computer screens! They even look futuristic! Ns1.wad sorely lacked that.
Lots of 128x128 textures!
New ladder textures! Nice touch!
LOTS of lights! Just beautiful!
The big 256x256 have lots of detail! (misc_crate's for example. Each side of a crate, all in one texture. Yet put together in a way that would work on ohhhh say a piece of machinery.)
What I don't love:
//Queue the cricket noises and tumbleweed...
I'm afraid co_diortem is going to be getting a texture overhaul now after seeing this. After I get the layout and geometry somewhat finished that is. Seriously, things that left me bored and uninspired in my map now have fresh potential! And after looking at all those screen shots of the new wad in action, I really do need to kick it up a notch. That's just fantastic.
Fantastic work guys.
Did I mention it was fantastic?
<Edit>
Just slapping some of them on to some parts of a copy of my map right now. The textures alone are making a bland spot better! (And diortem has plent of bland spots right yet...)
I just wish I had more time outside of my CPSC project, because I definately want to rework my whole map now.
I love how their is such lovely uses of colour in this new wad. A lot of people used to complain about "black and white lighting" being bland, but now I definately think it'll make a great style because of the contrast of colours. They also complement each other (and the ns1 wad) quite well, not looking quite as out of place (eg. Bast textures + eclipse textures) These textures look awesome ingame. Very sharp. I can't wait to see what all you experienced mappers can do with them!
<Edit>
Now time to play around with it a bit....and then get bored with Worldcraft again....I was never good at designing stuff like spacestations....argh damn me!!!
/burns self
Now all Cory has to do is finish the Eye pic (heard he was gonna finish the whole Fade or at least the head....)
EDIT : Ok....Merkaba and Cory both OFFICIALLY rock!
I think I'll finish my map as fast as I can so I can use this wad, heheh
or must i include the wad in my maps ?
i knew they were going to be good, but you've really outdone yourself cory and merk! so much style, gah /me runs back to drool again
-edit- there is a lot of grey though, i was hoping for some "cory green", /me runs back to drool again
*hangs head in shame*
There are no non-power-of-2 textures anywhere, unlike the original texture-file, where a significant portion of the textures are re-scaled in-game and thus, are quite blurry and take up more texture data than they should.
Well done!
Thanks for all the comments guys. Glad you like the new wad.
I just want to give some credit here to some of the people who helped out. I apologize in advance if this ends up sounding like an academy award acceptance speech.
Merkaba--For taking all the textures I gave him, checking them over, and putting them into the wad, which is actually a pretty darn big task. The last wad I made became a bit messy and unweildy, with doubles of textures, and a few textures that were never meant to be in there in the first place. This time around having a single person as the general facilitator of the wad made it much easier to keep it organized. Merkaba also helped me with making some miscellaneous fixes to some of the textures which needed it, created some overlay textures, and giving me a ton of guidance on how to create a more mapper friendly wad. As he is the maker of what is, in my book, one of the most visually appealing maps ever, I am eagerly looking forward to what he'll do with these new textures.
Kung Fu Squirrel--He did the majority of overlay textures (putting the glowing parts from the lights, monitors, etc. onto black) which is kind of a tedious task and one which I wasn't looking forward to doing <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> He also spent a lot of time trying out my new textures and giving me tons of constructive feedback on what changes I needed to make. As one of the most technically knowledgeable mappers around, as well as one of the most artistic anmd visually capable, his help was incredibly invaluable. A lot of initial ideas and inspirations for textures in this new wad came from him, as well.
Yamazaki--unfortunately he's not around in the community anymore due to getting a real job in the industry, because he had some really kickbutt maps underway. He made the base textures and the design for the 2 new ladder textures, which I tweaked out a bit and added infestation too. I think he took an otherwise pretty basic and boring texture job of making ladders and did a very creative job of making them interesting and futuristic in the style of the other NS textures.
Primarily I want to thank those 3 guys, as well as all the other amazing mappers in the community whose creativity really inspired me to want to create a bigger and better texture wad. I'm constantly blown away by the proffessional quality of the maps being produced in this community and I am looking forward to seeing what you guys can do with these new textures.
If I left out anyone who helped me out with this wad let me know. And I'm always willing to hear whatever constructive criticisms you guys have of the textures so I can incorporate the feedback into any additional ones I make in the future.
[Yup--totally sounded like an acceptance speech <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> ]
I'll check them out for our movie.
Cory, you freakin' rule. Even if some of you don't like the new set (while completely inexcusable <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> ), you gotta give this man some mad props. So to speak.
