Ch-ch-check it out!
This is the pistol from the other thread, I decided to make another thread and let the other one die because the info at the beginning wasnt relevant to the models current status...

anyway, here are two pics of it, comments and suggestions, Im still very much able to edit it, if you see any major flaws or anything

woah, that grip is WAAAY to wide, try to slim it down a bit, and the handle should be slanted, I think it would hurt you hard to hold it that way.

It looks fine! cant wait! Looks different for a change, unlike some pistols.

The grip isn't really that big, he had the viewport on orthographic.
• UlatohUlatoh Join Date: 2002-12-18 Member: 10982Members
lol, did you find out it was modeled in inventor from the other thread??

yea, it is, its an allmost-rel though, cause i still have to cut the polys down from 10k unless you all HATE your fps...

AND cause i have to animate the slide to swing back, and cause i ned it skinmeshed, AND cause i need it skinned...

drakes will prolly be out first...

Holy sh*t!!! That's like what? 4 FPS? How can you cut something that looks so good down to a reasonable amount?

how can you make a 10k poly model? when i do v_ models from scratch they end up like 240 poly

inventor is made for accuracy, not efficiency, i.e. actual manufacturing... but its nice to model weaps in cause thats what they actually use... I get uber pretty models but they have enormous polycounts

i could leave some of the details to the skin, i.e. the raised plates, and i could eliminate some of the fillets and chamfers..., not to mention chopping backfaces... it will still ahve to be around 1000 polys to retain any of its beauty though...lol
mebbe i should model for a different game?

hold on a min, so i can make **** in inventor and port..god im dumb, i went to national skills usa for my sweet cading on that program, i got that and solidworks andf all that ****....hmm, maybe i will start modeling....

yea, at school im using 3ds max 2 and inventor 5 :/ ...

if you use a current version of max and (mebbe) milkshape with a current version of inventor, there are heaps of plugins to port stuff out, the only problem is the models end up being just as accurate as the part in inventor... i.e. many, many polies....

just so you all know, i modeled a really, REALLY sweet assault rifle, and was gonna port it over to 3ds MAX then when i did, it had 300k polies...

How is this an almost rel? It doesn't even have a skinmesh yet and no sign of being skinned. This thread should be the mwip, and your last thread about this shouldn't have existed.
• UlatohUlatoh Join Date: 2002-12-18 Member: 10982Members
yer avatar is pretty accurate... if its a troll...
• UlatohUlatoh Join Date: 2002-12-18 Member: 10982Members
Ok, so i lied, its not an allmost release.... you all were right the handle angle is ackward to say the least... here is a pic of the handle as it is attached after some editing...the guts of the gun arent inserted in this pic(barrel and such)

Whoa...owned...

//edit
I like how this gun is coming along! It's progressing at a fairly fast rate, and looking quite good
but I gotta agree with Jamil on one thing: This is nowhere near completion, and really should be a [mwip] :/

Looks like an ork to me, but he does have a point, you got anyone to skin it yet or mesh it?
• UlatohUlatoh Join Date: 2002-12-18 Member: 10982Members
n'yet... I got all the relevant subgroups exported to MAX now, but my problem is sticking them together, they dont seem to want to align properly, and i cant figure out what to do next...

The design concept is nice, reminds me of the unreal2 pistol "grace" or something along those lines.

One good piece of advice:never **** Jamil off, thats why we do not have a gauss rifle to fill our satisfaction while we frag Hydralisks and Zerlings..oooh wait i got a lmg....and i never saw a gauss rifle because someone said one word bad and it wasn't...released...oooh....Enyways good Slidex0ring pistol but piece of advice:never try to reduce polys from a model, it will just make it look bad, instead model it again..but about 200 poly/400 poly. Im The incredible guy who can advice everybody how to model but i never succeed to finish one piece of work...hmm..

This model sorta faded away, I had some trouble with MAX, it wouldnt do what i was telling it to, could be cause i imported files made for version 5 compatibility... lol

anyway, I dont think im going to finish it, cause i dont know how, if anyone wants the .mdl files, they can have them
