    You'll soon have no choice as NS won't work without Steam once the WON servers are taken down. Download now before everyone who hasn't updated yet goes: "omg <insert random hl mod> won't work, I'd better get Steam".

    On other hand, Steam is very bugged at the moment, so I suggest that you dont download it yet.
    Download it when you are forced to and until that happens hopefully Steam will work better than now.

    Personally I'm boycotting Steam and HL2 until the the Anti-LAN party functionality is taken out. <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Steam really isn't that buggy anymore by itself, but ive heard its hard to play NS with it... I haven't tried.

    mayB i should D/L it so i have the file (so i dont have to d/l it when every1 wants to) and just keep the file on my pc, but not install it yet ?

    Not a bad idea. Don't screw with your current NS installation yet, though. Coil said Flayra is actively working on getting NS officially supported under Steam, so save yourself a headache and wait.

    No offence, but it sounds like you haven't installed Steam yet. Once all the updates are done it works fine.

    But on a serious note, just do what i did, install steam and leave your standard half-life setup installed too. Using a program like ASE you can connect to both steam and WON servers, so you don't really miss out.

    Do you really think he's the only person who feels this way and is on some lonely crusade? I can asure you there is more then just he who will refuse to spend their money on further HL games because of what valve is doing.

    With that said...I probably still will get HL2 eventually *shrug*

    just not right away.     I downloaded it and left it on my hard drive, and I think that you are making the right choice (waiting it out that is <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> ).


    As far as boycotting steam/HL2, it is highly likely that at least a couple thousand out of the tens of thousands of people that signed <a href='http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?nosteam' target='_blank'>that petition</a> against Steam will not be buying HL2 untill the water clears up. <span style='color:green'>I will probably buy HL2 for the single player if nothing else <u>personally</u>.</span> But I think Valve respects us (giving that those of us with more violent feelings towards steam illustrate our thoughts <i>concisely</i> enough) to take those people into consideration. So insulting them proves nothing, even if you disagree with their point of view. Do you really think that you can change their minds? Do you <b>really</b> think that you have the right to? Don't get me wrong, I am not going to attempt to boycott HL2 or Steam, but I grant my respect to anyone who wishes to try, because they have my respect already and attempting to boycott Steam or HL2 does not detract from the respect I gave them.

    Wow, you're setting a great example for the newbies. You might be in a bad mood, but that's no reason to give the forums a bad name.

    And Rover, that's probably a good plan, but if Steam comes out with a large update it wont be on the file you d/led so be prepared for a long updating wait. (I had 3 hours of updates on Steam once, ouch, and I'm on cable)

    I say...

    DL STEAM now so you wont have to later. Avoid all the DL hassles. STEAM updates itself so if you DL now it wont matter whether they change it or not tomarrow. You can still play on non-STEAM servers, you just cant use STEAM to do so, that is, if you keep your old HL folder.

    How do I add NS to steam... (to where it shows up under Games?)
    I downloaded 2.0 and it works w/ the old halflife interface...
