<div class="IPBDescription">I'm a Porn Zombie?</div> After looking through a old issue of PC Magazine, I happened upon a "Security Watch" article called :Don't Let Your PC Become a Porn Zombie.

They said I oughta check a lot of stuff, get a personal firewall going, and the such.

They also said to check out the free PestPatrol Port Checker to scan my ports for Trojan activity.

Oh my god. I'm nowhere near done with the scanning, and I just hit 375 in "pest" amount, most of it being spyware/adware/spam-relays, all being pinged off my computer. Its scary.

I highly reccommend using this stuff. Its....oh boy.

I'm good. I'm behind a router and then my school's router and firewall system. Plus, I use Spybot. Simply the best spyware detection. Plus Norton of course.

    And whats wrong with <a href='http://www.zombiepinups.com' target='_blank'>Zombie Porn?</a> :-)
    NOTE: Not really porn <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->

I'd still check. It says in here that even users with countless checkers, quite a few firewalls, and all that stuff, still tend to have 100-200 different PC using you as a proxy.

run Ad-aware a few times a year, itll clear out all the junk malicious programs that uninformed users can and do isntall!

Actually, this thing works really well. Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware didn't detect some of the crap this did. Mostly cookies, though. I'd give it a shot.

it always says 0 pests on that. Try the trial version on pestpatrol, and it'll show what really is.

holy clownboats, this thing is good. I reccomend everyone to use PestPatrol... It's detected 409 'pests' now, even though I use AdAware <i>very</i> frequently.

Which pest patrol? the trial version that doesn't delete them?

Post a link to the download page if your gonna recommend!

    I'm running ZoneAlarm.

I set IE to not accept cookies. To not run Java or scripts. Basically, everything is turned OFF in the security section. Does this mean I should get less/no adware/spyware etc... ?

Yeah...0 pests found..seriously stop going to dodgy websites and downloading shifty stuff ¬_¬
Then again my router and hardware firewall are so tightly closed I have to spend about 20 minutes to open a single port from my side, can't imagine its worth the effort to someone on the outside when theres much easier targts out there...

I don't get it, the thing at the bottom says "0 pests fond" but the list says I've got like 300 Trojan's... WTH DO I DO! I don't know how to stop them... some1 un-confuse me on this. Here is what I got:

Here I go, wish me luck.

Used Ad-Aware yesterday so in theory it shouldn't be too bad.....

    Download done.

    Um... illegal operation.

You cant do ANYTHING with the evaluation man - you have to actually purchase their product before it can help you.

Which makes me wonder, all these problems that absolutely no other firewall/virus scanner/adaware/spybot can pick up, yet everyone logs up millions of problems using there own free evalution software - problems that can only be fixed if you pay them money.

    I smell a con ;(

You know, I think I do too. Its...something ain't right here.

I checked my PC in the command prompt with netstat -a, like the mag said I should, and no links are going out to any PCs other than here at my house, whether I'm online or not.

    Hmm....scam....we all must investigate this.

Just checked with the trial version, no pests found. Surely if they wanted to con me they'd dream up some random threats that Joe Internet would be scared of and thus pay the goods to buy their program? Supra, that only shows open ports and the trojans that are associated with them. I don't know how well this thing detects 'pests', but it says that you don't have anything like them and probably shouldn't worry so much.

I'd still do a clean up or two if I were you, if you haven't done one recently.

Adaware is decent if you keep it updated. Also you should get used to the layout of your harddrive, then you can easily spot things that don't belong.

Unfortunatly I can't reformat because I kind of........

    lost my windows disk.

Yep. There goes ?200 or however much I paid for it (o.k, <u>I</u> didn't pay for it but you know...)

Sure I could buy windows XP, but from what i've read (and experienced from my mum's computer) XP is nothing but a game-slower-downer. The only redeeming feature is system restore. Just give me 98 with system restore and I'll be happy, I don't NEED all your crap which stops HL from running properly <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->

I keep my hard drive very clean but I thought Trojans could run behind your OS so basicly they won't be found in your folders... as for my hard-drive I use SpyBot S&D at least once a week and RegCleaner at least once a day, Oh and I NEVER use my recycle bin to remove anything, as Windows Recycle Bin only removes teh Cluster Tips and nothing else, I use Eraser to remove everything. I also use Diskeeper 8.0 to keep things popin fresh <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->. I got my computer from Compaq (I'm poor, okay?), so...not only do I not know how to reformat, I don't know where my windows disk is even if I did...There's a recovery drive, but I don't know whats going on with that.

Plus, when you reformat, isn't your hard-drive wiped...Or is there an option to keep certain things (which I doubt...since reformating pretty much explains it all)? As in hours of downloading those impossible to find MST3k that you can't buy, thrown out the window? Among other things...

Although I did delete like 20 things with the add/remove programs things....Crappy Compaq Games and useless software that I'll not only never see, but never want to see, and don't know where it's installed.
