Remember that translucent BB/AR? Hows about a bunch of alien models using that and with a nucleus of sorts to reveal the hittable areas?

Sounded sort of quirky and interesting to me, and I know how you modellers like quirky and interesting.

    Hmm, sounds a bit borderline-h4x, to be honest. Essentially, you're suggesting a model which shows you where to shoot.

    well the models were meant to have hitboxes that fit them near perfectly, it just doesnt work that way in practice

    Well if you're an experienced player, you know where to shoot.

    If you're a new player, its frustrating to not know WHERE to shoot, and you need to go to specific threads in these forums to find guides that actually SHOW you.

    I don't consider marine models borderline hax because they look like humans and thus you can tell where to bite them. I just thought it'd be an interesting way of showing aliens, and useful to new players. It fits with the story, looks quirky...... all in all a very good idea.

    You could make the original models have an additive skin and put a blob in the center of the model or where the hits count most. That way you can see through the model to the center where the red (or whatever color) blob is. I'd consider that cheating though...

    I dunno why its cheating when tbh anyone with a hex editor could just unzip the models, recolour the skins to bright dayglo pink hit areas, then seal them all back up.

    And again, how is it cheating when its only helping new players understand how to kill kharaa? If its such big a deal for the onos then just perhaps we just try it for the skulk, lerk, and fade.

    TBH I'd welcome improved shooting from new players.

    I agree. I'd be glad to see where I should be shooting. I remember emptying my entire lmg clip into a stationary skulks face, point blank, and not a smattering of green blood anywhere... then he ate me. Ugh, that **** me off to no end.

    I'd like to see the Onos model at 50% opacity with a 100% opacity block (coloured similar to the Onos) in the centre that shows where he can be hit. It's perfectly legit.

    yes, think of it as a TSA training simulator. you know, somehting the marines could use to know where to shoot the kharaa. they woulddn't just grab a new recruit and say <i>"Here's your LMG, pistol and your knife. jump through that infantry portal and try to shoot the aliens. Sometimes the bullets pass right through them and you'll suffer a slow and painful death on the horn of an onos, but don't worry; as soon as you die, we'll have another recruit step through the portal to repeat the same thing you just did. have fun!"</i>

    i woulnd't mind that either, yes i agree it is annoying when you are hitting the skulk and relising you aren't hurting him, but i would also like to see that the alein models have hit boxes that are consistant and easy to reach just like the marines, i mean think about it logically if you bite a marine in the head he dies sooo if you shoot a skulk in the head he should die

    Yes.. its very easy to make your models pink but the point is you have an advantage over a lot of other players. That's why it's a cheat. Most new players don't know what custom models are anyway. You must understand that anything that will make the game easier for you is technically a cheat. Dispute aside, it wouldn't be hard to do. Unless coil or someone says otherwise i'll do it up for you tonight and release it.

    e/ tell me where you want the blobs on the aliens to be. i.e on the skulk it's hind quarters?

    The actual MP hitbox is in near the middle of the onos. Those aren't the ones.

    Yup. that's a screenshot from half-life model viewer. It assaigns a "hit box" to every bone. That's what you're seeing, Jez. The actual hit boxes are quite frustrating...especially when you pop off 4 grenades through his head (to pass through and bounce off to where they do no good) and then have the now agitated onos turn and have you for a snack.

    I agree, lets set the dispute aside (likely as old as the modelling forum, heh).

    It would be something like

    Skulk Hindquarters
    Fade Mid-torso
    Gorge hindquarters
    Lerk torso
    Onos Mid-torso


    Obviously I'm in agreement that if its considered a cheat/hack by the devs, then its a no no........ just a part of me is intrigued as to how useful new players would find it. Morbid curiousity?

    As for the 'hitboxes' it's not the actual hitboxes that's a problem at all; it's the hull.
    Hitboxes outside the hull never get checked and the hull's basically a slightly taller version of gordon freeman ^^;
    There's plenty threads on it though and the technical problems involved.

    I'd make the skin sorta veiny and give it a dark 'core' that almost looks like some sort of festering cancer o.O

    Well I'm presuming we all know what we mean by hitboxes.

    As for interest....... well its all gone quiet.

    I was just picturing a big version of the translucent fade acidrocket release - nothing too complex, nice and simple.

    all hes askin for is jelly type aliens that you can see through like the custom acid rocket.     No its the acidrocket that looks like the normal acidrocket - came out before your spore.


    As for the onos - Send me the files please? I just decompiled and recompiled the standard onos and it works perfectly... What error comes up for you?
