    I wont claim to be a computing genious (programming...okay...networking...not really...actually, anything besides programming I'm pretty mediocre at), but I've never gotten a virus any of the computers I've ever used (although I have found a couple worms...one in an AvP2 demo, no less).

    Unfortunately I have a Compaq, because I'm a student, I'm poor and I needed a new computer...compare:

    1997/8 $1,500 :::::::::::: 2003 $600 ...new
    Pentium 3 500mhz :::::::: AMD Athalon 2.0ghz
    392mb RAM ::::::::::::::::: 256 mb RAM (I installed 256 onto the old one...that's why it has more, need to get some for this one)
    133mhz bus :::::::::::::::: ...no idea for this one, anyone help me as to where I could find the speed for it on this computer?
    8MB ATI Rage Pro Turbo : 128MB ATI Radeon 9200 (so, it's not the best Radeon, but at least it's got the 128mb's going for it)
    DVD and CD/R drives ::::: DVD drive (and it sucks, because it's a compaq...gotta buy a better disc reader for the second bay)
    17.7 GB HD ::::::::::::::::: 75 GB HD (although 5 GB is parsed off as a seperate HD for recovery)
    Windows 98 ::::::::::::::: Windows XP (I like 98 better...pffft, what happened to pictures for folder backgrounds?)

    Of course, you could compare it to the OLD computer, from '92-'97:
    hell, I don't know what kind of proccessor it had...does a potato chip work?
    Graphics card? pffft, this thing was 128kb ...max
    RAM? 1 megabyte...I checked once
    One CD-Rom drive...back when they were new....ish
    500 MB hard-drive...if that. I think it was only 100mb actually.
    Windows ........ <b>3.1</b>

    ...it ran AOL 3.0...back in the day.

    Roadrunner is far superior, but could be better...of course the uwsp.edu ResNet broadband sucks....uh [expletive deleted] .... woot for 200 pings....ALWAYS. I will honestly say, I messed up that P3 computer pretty bad. Of course, I have the compaq now...which was messed up when I bought it new...takes 3 minutes to start, and 1 and a half shut down (Anyone able to help me with that?)

    What's the run command to access what starts on...startup? I used to know...but damned be my memory lately. All I can remember are dxdiag, netstat and ...bah, I tried it but it's not winipcfg...freaking memory..to much school, not enough computer.

    Although that story is awesome....ahahaha, the homepage is pr0n. Those computers are terrible...how could anyone want to use them? They'll run SimCity2000 and Civilization. I'd like to also suggest beating the computer casing to fix the cd rw drive. On that P3, I'd just go off on it, and it'd either crash and give me a blue/white screen, or start working. Violence solves everything [computer related].

    MSconfig.

    You'll also want to basically format the entire HD right now. Factory builds are...ugh. I got my computer custom built, only what I want goes on this baby.

    Hilarious story Coil.
    Cracked me up man. I have a 10 year old son. Finding 'naked girls' in his google search history was a real eye opener. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    My new firewall and Norton have been blocking stuff left and right!
    I get a virus warning everytime I DL something, most times its due to gamespy!

    ad-aware has saved me alot of head aches!

    I think the real eye opener is when you stop finding it because he's discovered how to clear history and delete cookies... not that I would know anything about that. <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->

    When my parents found out that I'd visited pron accidentally once (stupid friend and his stupid AIM links) on my good computer, my dad went out and bought me a playboy (and I already have my brother's cache, gg college boy).

    (read: good computer, I use another comp for pron.)

    I get the feeling since coil hasnt responded back yet that we are gonna see him on the news......
    mouse grasped firmly in his cold, dead hand with his head placed firmly in a powered on monitor with the words "pwned" etched in the desk by his fingernails.....

    orrrrrr............. eating good food, and enjoying the hordes of cash he made..... although the latter is unlikely....

    Coil, my prayers go out to you. Like someone else said, I would never go into a computer support job becasue there are too many idots. I agree with Infinitum, how do people manage to do this to their computers?

    As for Coil', I have a few things for him. One, you probably should have told the parents WHY their computer was infested with spyware and viruses (Kid downloading pron!). Even though it is probably not your place to accuse their kid of looking at porn, you could have simply have brought it up as it being related to porn. I have to give you kudos for keeping your calm with these people. Seriously, who runs XP on a freakin' 5-yr-old pc?

    That's good advice, however this thread is rapidly approching its first birthday, threadomanced by a spam-post with no actual meaning.

    Ah, the sweet, sweet smell of nostalgia.

    Oh wait, that's the sweet-yet-slightly-rotten smell of the Undead. My mistake.
