Return Of The Lag

but I have a ping of 50 and 99fps
I have ADSL, a ping of 50-90 and never less than 60fps (when looking at lots of movement/sprites). At 99 fps, i have sickening lag. I hit a key, then about 2 seconds (not kidding) later, it respond. I can only move in one direction at once. Forward, no turning or strafing. Strafing, no turning or forward. I have to stop to turn. And I can't move while shooting. It's almost unplayable. This is on WON, not steam. I recently had to reformat my computer and all this started right after that. I DO have the same version of drivers (the new ones crashed my computer fast) and everything about NS is the same afaik.

I've got a P4-1.6GHz, 512MB DDR RAM, GeForce4 MX 440 (64MB)... Are there any settings I can adjust? I just can't figure out why it would lag with no rise in ping or lowering of FPS.

Check your choke and see if there is any loss between you and the server, also remember to turn off programs in the background. i.e Anti-Virus scanning, AIM, videos, or music playing in the background can cause this. Check for latest drivers on everything as well.

try changing which mode you are playing in (opengl/direct3d). if that doesn't help, try capping your maximum framerate. the command is either fps_max or max_fps, i forget which. try setting it to something like 30 for starters. try capping the framerate in both opengl and direct3d, also.

I think it's more of a computer-based thing, like if you're exchanging a huge file or burning something, it will take up system resources... and there are less for NS, making it slower, regardless of ping/fps.

it might be the server, ask the other people if they are experiancing any lag

I had the same thing when I had Direct3D selected instead of OpenGL .. try to check if you are using Direct3D and if so, change it.

I am having a Lag problem, but mine is a REAL lag problem.
Even sence I got my new computer.

Pentium 4 2.4GHz 533MHz FSB
256MBs DDRSD RAM PC 2100
GF4 ti 4600 128MBs DDRSD RAM
Asus x533 MB
10/100MBs ethernet card running off a 255+ Cable Modem
Windows 2000 Pro SP(4)
Keiro FireWall
Norton Antivirus 2000
My connection in games has been spiking like MADNESS
on server where i use to get 30-70 Ping I am now getting 200-900 ping.

Anyone know of a thread where I can read how to fix this stuff?
My rate is 99999.0000 and my MAX_FPS is set at 100.
I get great FPS 60-100 but the lag is killing me.
I use ASE to find my servers.

Heres an Idea of how bad the lag is now.
The lunixmonster use to show as having a ping on ASE of 60ms now it shows 225ms This is something wrong with my cable and card obviously, its not just ingame.
Anyone know where I can get some help? Please PM me not just post in here! Coil I know you work in this stuff so if you have help please PM me.

Thanks
Majin

I, as well as several other people I've talked with in-server, have noticed that choke seems to have gone up considerably in 2.01. Turn on net_graph 3 for a look.

I've gone from 40 ping 0-3 choke on linuxmonster to 80 ping 10-25 choke without changing anything client-side since 2.01, and the same is fairly true of other servers with 2.01 loaded (linuxmonster is just the closest one that I know of to home, so good pings).

40-50 ping, 0-3 choke. Now its just my mouse thats lagging, well not exactly lag but jerky. I have to stop to turn pretty much. Ive tried with 3 difference mice (wireless/optical/normal) and they're all the same. Its really annoying because i obviously can't aim at things. Nobody else on the server has this, its just me. I'm quite frankly stumped about this. Ive installed the latest drivers for everything, DirectX 9, every last update available and none of it has helped. Wierd.

I've had problems like this with 99 fps before. Especially if I joined a team too fast, the graphics would mess up and sometimes it would crash. Just set your max fps down (fps_max or max_fps I forget) to 60-80. 100 fps is unnecessary and the half-life engine has problems dealing with it.
