Would You Flame A Newb?

P-KhanP-Khan Join Date: 2003-05-27 Member: 16776Members
I have been in games where a newb would join in the game, warn the team he was a newb, not go to the CC and wait for an order, or follow a group of marines. I'v also been on games where a person would warn they were a newb, and get flammed, eventhough he warned everyone and did exactly what the others asked him to do.
And this newb was me when I first started playing NS!!!! I would warn the group, and then I would get flammed and kicked of the server sometime. I would just build things around the base, and sometimes ollow a group of marines when told to.

Now, I would like to know if you guys would do some newb flamming, and tell the truth now. If I'm playing a serious game, and really want to win, I ask the newb to leave. And if he doesn't , I tell him to guard the base and don't leave. If he does not do that, I start flamming him. But that's only in games which I really wanto win

Only flame the n00bs that think they know what they are doing but don't and won't listen to any one else.

i would just ask him for the chair, or ask someone else to go to the chair
if it was really annoying i would wait for an eject vote

and newbs that listen do have uses (somewhat sadistic, but necessary):
- human shield
- scout
- sacrificial figure
- bait
- decoy
- vent holder
- lmg spammer / uncloaker

Dont flame the new people, or ask them to leave, if they always get kicked out of the chair, they will never get any expirience with it, if they never play the game, then obviously they will never become any good at it.

There is no reason, whatsoever, to flame a newb or try to kick him out (at the huge exception he thinks he is playing CS)

I admit to using them as bait. I send them into a room and if a skulk/gorge/lerk/fade/onos/OC attacks it, I'll let him die and go the long way to my waypoint.

Yeah, what this guy said ^^

People don't realise that we all had to learn to comm sometime. What outraged me is in one server I got kicked for asking about why we hadn't got HMG's when I'd fully upgraded - all they had to do was tell me to click on the armoury and select "advanced armoury". Instead I got treated to "**** n00b get out of comm chair" and "you shouldn't be comming if you don't know what do do faggot", although in the end I won the game for them (aliens f4ed).

Yeah, um, that's not a n00b...that's just a bad team player. Knowing full well what you have to do and not doing is in no way a new person's behavior. The new people usually ask questions, and try to help out.

yeah, during cool times im ok with newbs trying ot the chair, they might actually be on to something useful. but when it gets hot and i, among half the team, need medpacks i will die then request that the chair be handed over for a minute

The only n00bs I flame are ones that stand in base/hive area telling the other team exactly what we are doing and covering it up with "opps, I'm a n00b"
The ones who don't listen/ respond
and the ones that think they are better than everyone else, especially when they aren't.
a good example of this: once some guy who stood around in base screaming for an HMG/HA for five minutes while I was out killing skulks with my basic equipment. I said "stop asking for stuff and trying killing something for once you nub" and of course his responce was "I'm not a nub you ****ing n00b". Did I mention I was an admin on the server? Oh, yes.. that too. But you know, any good server would obviously let someone new to the game have full admin access.

I try not to flame people so much as put them in their place. If they are not following orders, I tell them to start listening. If they are being a complete moron, I make that clear to them.

he's talking about actually building the stuff, not being in the comm chair. As for flaming a newb, nope, I wouldn't do it, but if you're on an "experienced players only" server, expect it.

I must admit i will flame a n00b from time to time, usually knee jerk reaction to a stupid stunt.

If they announce themselves as n00bs i will look after them (gives u lil buddies to do ur bidding in a game, also gives u sum respect).

If they decide to take matters into their own hands and rambo, not help, whine, not follow example just stuff like that i do have a go at em. Prolly not one of my best gaming sides but if someone thinks they are god and wont ask for help or take it upon themselves to find out more about the game i tend to get a bit snippy.

When i first played the game in 1.00 before i even started i went through the manual from start to end, good thing the manual was interesting. Even then i still asked for extra info from ppl, at that time no one knew terribly much so it was alrite.

Anyway it usually takes one good flame to stop a n00by from doing something bad again just as long as they dont figure "something bad" as trying to play NS.

If u announce u got no clue and want help im willing to help but if u wanna sit there and figure it out urself prepare to have ppl on ur backs.

I dont mind if a n00by takes a comm, its alrite to not have a serious game once in a while and as long as u hold their hand while they go through he mite end up being a good comm and favour u with weaps for helping him.

Oh yeh i never comm so i dont criticise ppl. I dont suck at it but i know there's better ppl and i dont like the pressure. I'm a better FPSer than RTSer.

That's why I flame "veterans" and not n00bs. Most of the veterans I've encountered are usually a lot worse than n00bs

I dont really think you should flame any specific group (or people)
I've seen a "noob" join a game, complete own some marine butt and we were like, "YOU HAVE 100 RES, GO ONOS!! GO ONOS!!" (Couldnt wait to see his skills with an onos )

This has been said already but let me add to it.
Todays noobs are the potential future of this mod. We need all of them we can get. I know they're frustrating from time to time. And sometimes you have to get a little firm with them, but we all will need them in the end.

But fortunately the sheer complexity of NS acts as a natural filter for those in the shallow end of the gene pool.

If they act like they just came from CS: Yes

If they act mature and ready to follow orders: No

If they are nice and ask questions instead of doing something stupid: No

I would flame most newbs, but it really depends on the situation....

I do know that if anyone asked me a question, newb or veteran alike, I'd always do my best to answer them...

yea the first time i played NS i got horribly flamed, noone told me that i couldnt gorge becuase of the res (this was 1.04) so i didnt even know what a gorge was, i thought it was a stronger monster than the skulk, yes i was told to read the manual instead and got kicked

I don't flame often but when I do it's more to do with who they are than experience =3

As far as new players go (I never use the term 'newbie/noob') I always try and be nice and helpful as long as they're not a jerk. With me you tend to get one strike then you're out so fast you'll burn your bum on the turf =P

I was fortunate because I got NS the day it came out so I couldn't be flamed for being a newb because we were all newbs

I wouldn't flame someone for being a newb I would flame them for being a ****. If a newb comes in and is friendly and willing I go out of my way to try and help. If a newb comes in and starts being a nuisence (spl?) then I either flame or ignore, usually the latter. If an experienced person comes in and is OK I might follow some orders or advice. If an experienced person comes in and starts being a **** I treat him in the same manner as I would a newb that's acting the same way.

im glad to see this topic stayed on topic but.. a thread about flamming noobs is annoying and bothers some people aswell as it being overall spammy to the boards and holding no real use
