Tales of Grief
Well, I thought I'd start up a thread on people's most evil comm experiences (either as one or under one).
If this has been done before just say or if it's in the wrong area I don't doubt it'll get moved =3

Names have been changed to protect the evil...

Anyways, for me we were playing a 4v4 game (lots of people had left in the previous match) and the comm sent us out to a very remote waypoint without even building anything... Being good marines we didn't question and we struggled along, emptying rounds at the skulks and gorges that wandered into our path and finally, after a long skirmish-filled journey we limped to the waypoint; not a single marine lost.
As the point vanished and our marines did their little radio call to notify command of the success a message came up on team chat...

EvilCommPerson: "cya suckers"
- EvilCommPerson has left the game

As you can guess, we were miles from base, there were no ips built and rather than f4 we made the deadly journey back... one marine made it and built IPs but the game was lost.
ah well, c'est la vie

This one time I was playing alien and the comm had locked both hives down. I was bored because he was doing nothing but turret farming so I go and build a DC hiding spot and instead of killing the one hive with a heavy train, he spends all his res on jetpacks and shotguns and sends the entire team to kill myself and another skulk in our hiding spot without even trying for the hive.

We did have a "mad com" once. We manage to lock down two hives (in 2.0) and turret them up, when we notice that we're just getting armor upgrades. We ask the com if we could get some weapon upgrades. No, he says, we're going to win this with turrets.

And we proceeded to do just that. Every step we went was turret farmed. We had no weapons beyond lmgs and welders; no shotguns, no gls, no mines, no HMGs. If we wanted a medpack, we got 10. If we didn't ask for a medpack, we got 5. An endless procession of turrets flowed forth, all the way down tram tunnel on ns_bast, to the tram itself, then towards refinery, where it linked up with a second one coming down from main aft. No seiges; just turrets, with the occassional onos or Fade showing up and being torn to shreads by around 50 turrets hitting them. Pings were going absolutly nuts. We finally reached refinery, put up more farms to take out the 2 res points then we turreted the hive. Absolutely insane game

I once had a comm go all out to take out an RT and a small WoL I'd built even though they hadn't even locked down a hive yet... it took ages because I was sitting behind the WoL with an adren gorge and healspray XD
I'd class that more as silly than evil though =3

I don't know if you guys have ever had to play parasite/knife only games, but they take about as long as the players' patience can last. What you do is that aliens can only be skulk with parasite. Marines can only use knife. Nothing can be built except for 2 ips, and 1 alien hive (with exception of prototype lab for marines). Marines can get jet pack/HA and aliens can get upgrades, but no other weapons are used to fight.

Well, needless to say it takes a long damn time to win, and 9 times out of 10 what will happen first is that someone won't obey the rules and other people will get tired and disobey the rules as well to fight them. Then nobody follows the rules and the game goes to hell.

To me, every nightmare comm game is one of these things.
Though I must admit it is quite a change of pace to see aliens running away from marines.

It was on ns_nancy of 2.0, our comm built an IP portal in a spot where you'd spawn in stuck and recycled the old so everyone just kept spawning in, getting stuck, telefragging, etc. etc.

What a miserable game.

game starts.
Me and five more marines wait for a commander, some leave the base, most wait.
marine 7 goes to the CC, turns around and rambos somewere.
marine 8 goes to the CC, turns around and follows marine seven.
I go to the comm chair, join it, drop an Ip. We get destroyed.
Would have been better if we just waited.

The other day on some server... I think it was bean-net official... We were playing on ns_veil. Some n0Ob none of us has ever heard of jumps into the comm chair and builds 2 IPs, an armory, and a TFac. We're all okay with this, as that's fairly standard build order on veil. A few turrets later, we get a waypoint to topographical analysis, and the RT phases in so we start building it. We've already torn up 3-5 skulks by now, and lost 2-3 of our original 7 marines (sad!) and as soon as we start building the RT, we hear thap-thap as everyone gets parasited. Lovely, right? We're all happy when the RT builds up, figuring the comm will electrify it and we can move on. When all of a sudden.. he drops a tfac. Then an armory. Then.. i kid you not.. an arms lab, 2 IPs, and a comm chair. >_<

Relocating to Topographical Analysis has to be the most unexpected strategy one could ever manage on veil! Even we marines were surprised. Surprisingly, we managed to salvage the round by ejecting the commander and taking overlook, west skylights, and the sub-sector hive. We seiged nanogrid monitoring.. I don't rememer if we won the game or got pwned, though. Anyone who was there wanna clear it up?

i like to send hordes of marines with jp shootgun into sc-traps.
No, I tell them to WAIT at the waypoint next to the trap, that is save till i scan or build a tf but they all rambo away and die in the SC trap.

That's not an insane comm -- that's a comm with a plan and the organizational skills to carry out said plan. I for one congratulate him.

My story happens on the redphive servers. The map was ns_veil, we'd relocated to the chokepoint between the west side and the rest of the map. We immediately take sub, overlook, west skylights, and electrify base rt. I was just about to drop some shotguns to take out the double node, emergency, and topo. This was within the first 5 minutes. Needless to say, the game was ours for sure. Then all of a sudden, I see "Suiciding in 3.0 seconds." The admin had come in and had an important announcement concerning the server and felt that that was the only way to get us to give him our attention.

Ok, not a mad comm story, but interesting nonetheless.

Well this is a story about me ^_^

Version 2.0....a fairly long game on nothing, the aliens have via and cargo up and well defended, the marines are still operating from the original spawn. My comming skills aren't all that great, it was more the skill of my team that was keeping us alive.

We start to lose the battle, with our forward base getting ripped up. My mate Schkorpio is in the game as a marine, and he and I have often joked about how cool it would be to relocate to powersilo, and build the base up the top. In the middle of the fight he's wandered off to powersilo (which has minimal turret/res setup). He has a jetpack.

While the rest of the team keep the aliens busy, with his jetpacking help, we rebuild our entire base, complete with phases, seiges, protolab, the works. Thing is, it's all up the top. Turret factories go up the top too. Then we spam the floor with turrets. Phases to each side of the top, and to the floor. Eventually the team start spawning in powersilo, because the aliens rip up our original spawn.

After I die, I jump back in the chair(my mate holds it for me...we were worried the team might get annoyed - to their credit, they were willing to try it out). We still have a fair amount of res, so I give out a fair amount of heavy armour and weapons.

A three onos+gorge+lerk rush could at best take out 3-4 turrets, due to the narrow walkways, and massive amounts of incoming fire. They could not take out the CC, tf, ANYTHING because it was all up the top. Seiges on each side prevented any structure use. Lerk gas was useless - everyone up the top were heavies, and could phase down if they wanted. Some aliens tried to fly/blink up the top, but there were turrets up there too

The game only ended an hour and a bit later when the aliens f4ed. We eventually took foreboding res, and buggered the lift so that any onos had trouble getting down, by building turrets under it.

Oh, and of course they only had two hives....we were in powersilo.

me <----evil

funny thing was the team loved it. usually people hate drawn out games...these guys were having a blast.....too bad the aliens were a "little" angry at us(me).

I was on a team in which we had every upgrade, every res node, everyone was HA/JP, electrified all TFs and RT, had two hives, PG at each location we built at...about to invade their main hive of mostly skulks and one fade.

Our main commander had to go, so he asked if someone could take over and finish it off. We figured that if we can at least get someone win to help us organize, we would win. Well, a guy named WhO? jumps in.

Recycles EVERYTHING, lost all our upgrades, and he had about 300 RES to build with. He proceeds to let everyone die even when requesting heatlh, and in base he build a TF and over 30 turrets. The game went on for awhile and everyone eventually F4ed because the aliens couldn't get near our base.

I regret seeing him, playing with him.

Has anyone else had a bad experience with WhO?

Dunno. Tonight, playing on nothing, I gorged and built a mad stack of DCs under Quad lift (6 high) Which rendered the lift totally inoperable. They wouldn't have been able to use it unless they seiged. Well, I don't know what their commander was thinking, but the **** builds a TF, 6 sentries, and 4 seiges in the hallway by quad lift. Seiges the lift and takes down my lovely DC WoL. Afterward, rather than using his heavy train to take the RT and OCs in foreboding antechamber, he builds ANOTHER turret farm at the bottom of quad lift off to the sides. I have no idea what that was about, but I'm sure the audio chatter on their side was quite interesting.

I've been on the alien side of this. Only the commander made it even more impossible - he put all of the turrets at the top too. Like 15 or 20 of them. I have no idea how he managed to fit all of them up there.

Game starts. Usual beginning stuff, 2 ips, armory (stupid imho, all it was good for was humping) and a tf. Comm electrifies RT and TF once he has res. Waypoint to hive. We all go, ignoring RTs on the way (as per instructions). We ask for an RT at the hive. We get a TF. He electrifies it. Meanwhile... half the team is massacred while humping said armory, and comm orders us back to base to kill the nasty skulk. One of us heads back, but the skulk gets zapped before he gets there. We ask for RT again. Medspam. RT. Ammo spam. We explained in no uncertain terms that we all had full health and enough ammo. We also explained that TFs are useless without turrets. So he upgrades the TF. We continue to ask for anything remotely useful, so he says "Here this'll help" and blocks the hive entrances (refinery on mineshaft) with CCs. After a few minutes of swearing at the comm, we ask for a PG. Medspam. Again, we explained in quite clear and easy to understand terms that the comm was a "***ing ****". We were trapped in the hive. The humpers at base were getting lerk gassed to death, so naturally the comm builds useless crap. He puts another TF right between IPs (which were already jammed in the corner). So now anyone spawning gets telefragged. With like 2 RTs, this naturally took a long time. We heard some Onos goring coming from the CC WoLs.

Me: "Uh comm... we have a slight onos in archiving... some ***ing TURRETS would be nice!"
Comm: "Okay here you go"
*comm drops a seige*
*onos promptly un-drops the seige*
Me: "Comm NOW would be a good time for the medspam!"
*marines start dying in droves*
*comm drops ammo*
*telefrags occuring like crazy*

The eject vote failed (for some unknown reason) and the comm blocked off everything in base with useless **** as fast as he could buy it. Almost none of us F4d because it was actually pretty damn funny once we weren't playing. About 20 minutes later... comm finally had his CC destroyed. So naturally, he's still alive. In the non-existant CC. He's seriously nowhere. (reminds self to post in bug forum) Onos walk around, goring where CC should be. Every 'rine structure is gone. Only the comm is still their (as commander). He can still drop stuff and everything. Aliens start to f4 cause they can't figure out whats going on. It seemed to be a refinery bug... we couldn't upgrade the armory in base either.

Anyways, that's my comm horror story.

<edit>we called for admin and he slayed the comm, so we still lost </edit>

I bet if you built a whole base underneath quad lift on ns_nothing, and stacked things high enough that aliens couldn't get down there via the elevator, and put sufficient turrets in foreboding antechamber to defend against skulks using the vent above, you could make a pretty good long stand... what do you think? With only one entrance to that area (the hallway leading through powersilo) you could set that whole area up pretty nicely, turret farm it, and have a good long standoff. Maybe even survive long enough to get HA and win, between powersilo and FA resource nodes..
• NecrosisNecrosis The Loquacious Sage Join Date: 2003-08-03 Member: 18828Members, Constellation
We'd a weird game tonight.... comm rushed straight for dbl res (you can see where this is going) dropped some rts, then a tfac, and then finally one turret.... which was halfbuilt when the skulk army hit us.

Undeterred, the comm pushes again to dbl res, capping cafeteria and gen. Aliens take back cafe and gen, we take back dbl res. And then get slaughtered.

Throughout the game, comm electrifies ONE tfac, the one in an enemy hive (Tram) thats furthest from our base.

Long story short, zero defence, pointless HA spam and zero coordination results in marines taking a horrible pounding.

I'm willing to run with the comm if he has a plan, but mediocre expansion with no consolidation is a really silly "plan" which would result in summary execution if you tried it in the real world.

We won a game on Nothing tonight by relocating to redroom (the TINY little vent room near viaduct) We got phase, comm chair, arms lab, protolab, observatory, armory, 2 IPs, tfac, 6 turrets, and 3 sieges in there, and still had enough room to move around. After sieging viaduct hive from redroom, we had enough of a tactical advantage with our JPs and shotties that it was over pretty damn quick thereafter.

Goes to show you: Even a crazy plan can succeed if the commander has a proper vision of how to execute it and his marines DO THEIR PART to help.

In any other case, I'd have laughed in my commander's face if he told me to relocate to redroom before today.

that redroom is complete hell to try and weed the marines out of... Onos can't get in and everything else gets wasted by any marines or turrets waiting for them to come up the high part of the vent =s

Had the powersilo trick pulled on us when we were aliens too; thing is it's pretty dark up there so me and another silenced fade later there was no marine base left ^~
We had to have an onos or two dance on the floor below to keep the turrets distracted though =3
