Why do they do this?
Just wanted to know what's the deal with commanders who recycle res nodes when a group of skulks were attacking them? When I was commander I didn't think recycling stuff gave you resources back, so I can't understand why they do it. Surely waiting for aliens to take out the res node is easier, as it gives you time to direct marines there and take them out?
On one occasion I started spike-shooting a res node and the comm recycled it almost immediately.

Some comms are very recycle happy, one time a comm recycled a TF in a hive just because i had taken down the PG as a skulk
But doesn't anyone have a problem with this being a "dirty" tactic? I know it won't stop anyone doing it.
Yes, always wait until you hear the biting sound. Alternativetely you can electrify it.
Oh, and Ricky, I don't think anyone has a problem with it, probably because it saves you, as a skulk, valuable time that would otherwise be spent on chomping it.
If 4 skulks are munching an RT you have to react damn quick to get anything back.
Its annoying, but then ive never considered it an exploit. (not that i do it, but then i never comm anyway )
If you can't defend it and it's lost, then you may as well try salvaging what you can... it's kinda one of the things that seperates a resourceful comm from a wasteful one ^^
its also fair that aliens can not recycle, therefore the commander is not that mobile.
ok some basic stuff:
when one skulk just startet biting you can electrify or recycle it. if electrifies aliens need 4 skulks to finish it without diing.
When one skulk has killed 1/4 of the rt you can still recycle it and might suceed if theres no more skulk nearby. Electrifiing makes not that much sense here, its a higher risk and more a waste of res.
Same if there is one skulk and one lerk/gorge just beginning to attack.
If there is just a gorge nearby you dont need to recycle it imidiately, you can keep it up longer and recycle it whenevere you want, its still a risk, gorges rarely are alone and build ocs.
If theres just a lerk nearby dont worry about recycling, he takes ages to kill it. Maybe electrify it, skulks might come.
Ohnoes the building f4'ed, LAME!
Recycling is a big part of nearly any RTS and takes skill to know when to leave it up to get one more res/unit out of it before recycling.

Who said it was an exploit?
I had a commander recycle a RT after 1 lerk spike and as soon as he did I stopped spiking it and turned gorge. By the time it was finished being recycled I ploped my RT there and LOL at the fool!
I wouldn't have been able to destroy that RT he was too egar to recycle
Not that I feel the aliens should be able to, but I don't think Marines should be either.

Um, yes they should.
It works, occasionally.
Alien recycling is a dumb idea, to me. And marines definitely need to be able to recycle. Considering their lack of mobility, and need for ammo, it just makes more sense.
Not to mention that marines usually get the short end of the stick when it comes to resources.
LOL, what RTSes are you playin?
I've played more different RTS games than anyone I've ever met (which is saying a lot because I work in the game industry on an RTS title). Far less than 50% of RTSes allow you to sell back units or structures. Red Alert 2's expansion pack and Total Annihilation are the only two that spring to mind.
Back on topic, recycling RTs is very balanced right now. Recycling an RT right when a single skulk begins attacking an RT will successfully recycle the structure before the Skulk can kill it. However if the commander waits too long (or multiple skulks are present) then the structure is destroyed before it can be recycled.
Alien recycling would not become a lame trick like it is for the Marines if we simply require the gorge to remain present for a significant (30 seconds?) amount of time in order to complete the recycle, and we give the resources to the whole team rather than only that Gorge (to discourage investment reclaiming by single players)
The idea I posted in the other alien recycling thread was to require two cooperating Gorges to disassemble a structure... Prevents jerkish players from maliciously destroying the team's structures by themselves.
